Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

I won my ears while on a tour at Disneyland, i was more excited about getting to see Club 33. The lanyard came from my other half who won it after riding Maelstrom. It's never been taken out of the plastic package and i enjoyed my cinnamon bun i got at the kringla much more.

As weird as you may think i am - i'm not the only one. Other folks on the DL-tour wouldn't even put the ears on. I wore mine around the park all day.

Wow!

I know that DL locals hate the campaign--even some of the newspapers have made comments about how it's half-baked--but I didn't realize that people are that incredibly opposed to it!

Does this mean that I am never going to be able to get a decent recording of that bouncy little tune just before the Dreams parade at WDW? I wonder if that means the parade will be changing too. The ramifications of this news are far reaching!

We were at WDW in Dec. with a GG and received a few Dreams...blue mickey ears after riding Indy Speedway...everyone wore them the rest of the day and had an offer on the bus to sell two pairs (which we declined), 2 in our group got a lanyard, and one got a Tink pin (and one to give away) for doing a kind thing (my niece got that). the kids were the ones really excited, although the adults appreciated a little souvineer that we didnt have to spend $$$ on.

we are going back in August with a GG of more than 30 people this time (Thank you PAM!) and the kids are looking forward to seeing if any of our numerous first timers get a dream reward.
I love WDW, I love spending time with my family and friends, but I am certainly not going to get worked up, worried or concerned with things like this that are pretty much out of my control.

I don't claim to be an insider but I hear from several people whom have proven to have about an 80 percent track record. This is what I have gathered tonight.

First, no one really knows everything that is going on as there's a lot flying around and even those truly in the know aren't 100 percent in the loop yet. This is what it sounds like however.

As mentioned earlier, Rasulo was dealt what could turn out to be a very crippling blow to his position with the company and his global unification of the parks project seems to be scrapped. DL will go back to the happiest place on Earth and WDW will retake its old slogans as well. All references to where dreams come true will be removed.

Now something this major cannot happen overnight, so its going to be a somewhat gradual process, but all marketing to that will be phased out as will the year of a million dreams. You'll still see marketing to that end for a while, but over the next two months all marketing should wind its way out. The giveaways will continue to happen in the parks to satisfy legal requirements, it just won't be advertised anymore, and its not being extended into a second year as previously pushed by Rasulo.

As for what others have mentioned on here in question to Epcot. I have heard that discussions have happened regarding the 25th since Rex left as VP of Epcot, but have no information as to whether that is truly getting any steam or not It is speculated that something minor may occur now as one of the main stumbling blocks to the celebration was the year of a million dreams, but that is only speculation.

So take that with a grain of salt. Its only hearsay, but hearsay I've heard from more than one source.

But please believe when I say the YOMD has been a great success (WDW Reasearch has shown it). I, personally, think it's a fabulous promotion and very unique in that it actually focusses attention on the guests. My only wish was that the promotion would have been advertised more b/c I feel a lot of people simply don't know what's going on!

Sorry but WDW surveys are often made up to get whatever answer the marketing people want. While YOAMD may have been successful at WDW it has been a failure at DL. When it comes down to it, it was a lame promotion thought up by Rasulo and his whole global marketing initiative. It has showed that you cannot market both resorts(DL and WDW) the same. Personally, I think they would have had a lot more success with a 35th anniv celebration for WDW than some stupid made up gimmick and then they could have gone into a celebration of Epcot's 25th and hey they could have come up with some catchy slogan like "World Homecoming". But what do I know I am just an Annual Pass holder not part of the management team that continues to suck the magic out of WDW.

Sorry for the emotions that are about to boil out here.....

I know that this is all rumor at this point. I have to say that when I first heard of the YoaMD promo, I was really excited. I was bummed that the trip that we had planned last year was just before it was set to begin on Oct. 1, so we would miss out on being among the first to be potentially extra pixie dusted. Ok, fine, so it comes out that the YoaMD promo will last through the end of 2007.....GREAT! That means/meant that I could talk my honey into taking me to WDW for my 40th and we might still get a little extra pixie dusting thanks to the promo.....bring on the super nifty ears, dream FP's, extra park hours, Tinker Bell pins, and whatever else that we might be gifted with.....oooh :drevil: dare I dream of winning the DVC membership?!?!?....that would be the ultimate 40th birthday present from the Mouse and a HUGE Dream Come True!

With the promo in mind, I did talk my honey into the trip. Our WDW portion of my 40th Birthday Blowout trip is from 10/29 to 11/04. So, now, after being scared out of staying at AKL which is my ultimate dream resort due to construction concerns, after the switcheroo on the water park rehab schedule that prevents my honey from taking surfing lessons as we had planned for her to do to fulfill her lifelong dream, after having a MNSSHP being thrown on my birthday (11/02) AFTER HALLOWEEN which is totally lame and prevents me from seeing Wishes on my birthday as I have dreamed about for over a year, and after finding out that SSE is NOT reopening on 11/02 which I was really looking forward to being among the first to ride in it's newly reopened glory....now, you tell me that the freakin promo is ending early?!?!? :fork:

I am about to the point of telling Disney to refund my money and I will go turn 40 somewhere else. I am totally not feeling the magic and the dreams are all being crushed. Not a smart move guys.....some of us actually believed in this promotion and wanted to be at WDW for the chance to have a dream come true and feel that extra little bit of magic in the air.

I am disappointed. Rant over. :zipit: Maggie

Thanks for this post, Monty.
I'd like to see your evidence, merf, about how terrible this promotion is.

It stinks... Unless you are married and have 2.5 kids and are the typical 'disney' american family.

If you dont fit the above.. you dont get jack.

I got an ugly hat - with silver ears! Perfect for making into an Epcot SSE mouse ear hat. Even has silver trim, and they didn't even use any expensive patches, just stickers.

Whoo hoo!

I edited your post to just the main points; this is the wisest post so far in the entire thread!

You're absolutely right...as far as we know on 7/7/7.

Can we at least get those stupid things off the monorails?

ROFL! Was about to say that! It's absolutely stupid looking. It doesn't even have any resemblance to anything else related to YoaMD. Could at least make it with the clouds and the light purple. I don't get it, throw every color in the world on it and then MUSICAL NOTES... what the hell does music notes have anything to do with YoaMD? Didn't people learn from Apple that simple is better?

Plus what does the YoaMD graphic do other than force one side of cars 1 and 6 to be repainted? It limits the view out of the windows! ...dream to see the castle from the monorail in all its glory.... SHOT TO HELL! Sorry, Timmy.

I was on a tour - at DL - and we happened to see poor DL Dream peeps flailing about on a little bridge by the little castle. They were trying to get people to notice them. They had their hands full of mouse ears and they were waving them around, jumping up and down, trying to get noticed.

No one was walking toward them, just giving them strange looks and keeping on their direct routes to fantasyland, pirates, or indy.

Someone on my tour asked "What are they doing?" and so my tourguide was like "Well, let's go find out!" and we all tromped across the way to see them and all got ears.

Take this as official:

The Year of A Million Dreams has been extended another year.

I just finished a professional internship in June, and around May it was announced to our business unit (which does a lot with YOMD) that it will be extended due to it's success.

Umm, but Tirian says its true. so unless we're getting our leg pulled..

Someone at disney loves me..

So wait...the wand falls AND jay rasolu's lame marketing scheme got pulled? This really is turning into the year of dreams coming true!

whats next? Beastly kingdom? The hat coming down? Star Wars land at MGM? Phil Holmes getting fired? Jay Rasolu being shown the door?

I don't agree with Dream Along With Mickey taking away my ability to walk through the castle for nine hours a day

There, I said it... I'm not proud... but I disagree with something Disney has done recently

 Will wonders never cease!

I think they should fire Rasolu and put me and enderikari in charge of parks & resorts. I'll be Walt and you can be Roy! (or I'll be Eisner and you can be Wells if you prefer)

Don't feel too badly about it. My wife and I were married at Disney last December and stayed at AKL for well over a week. Although 'dreams' were awarded all around us (several times in front of us while in line in fact), we didn't get jack squat! After dropping some serious coin there to bring my family down, etc., that stung quite a bit. I realize that it's never a given that you'll receive a 'dream', but you certainly shouldn't go there expecting it!
