Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

I just looked at Miceage. This is what is on the front page of Miceage right now:

"Lucky us! Breaking news: The "Where Dreams Come True" decor (flags, banners) will begin to be removed from Disneyland beginning this week. Consider it a early Anniversary present from Mr. Lasseter. More to come later after 7/11. -Al Lutz"

That's different than YOMD being cancelled. YOMD is an ad campaign and sweepstakes. The "Where Dreams Come True" was the thing that launched the whole Disney Parks mess.

It sounds to me like they are pulling away from "Where Dreams Come True" and hopefully going back to The Happiest Place On Earth. And this was only mentioned for Disneyland, not WDW.

Is this a WDW decision too, or is this just for Disneyland and the more well known Happiest Place On Earth tagline and campaign?

Wait Wait Wait? Al Lutz is backpedaling? For shame, sir! It is entirely possible that "Where Dreams Come True" banners are coming down(the reason why is pretty funny), but that doesn't signal the end of the YOaMD promotion...

In short, Lutz was wrong... WRONG WRONG WRONG... Couldn't have been any more wrong if his name was Wrongy McWrongerstein... Now he is going to try and cover up the fact that he was WRONG... I say, don't let him!

Edit - and he got people all worked up over nothing...

P.S. - Wrong

P.P.S. - Wrong Wrong

Well whatever and wherever it is, it seems someone...somewhere...has realized how wrong the recent "Disney Parks" lumping has been.

Al Lutz never specified whether it was DL or WDW or both parks. He just posted that it was cancelled.

Perhaps its the end of it at DL as well as the end of the whole "Disney Parks" campaign?

All right, more info:

The celebration was going to be extended for another year. That's cancelled.

:snore:

Also, the Disney Parks nonsense did, indeed, flop.

Are Where Dreams Come True flags and banners being removed from WDW too? At Disneyland they have these scary swan things swimming in the moat in front of the Castle and creepy "fairy wing" flags all over the place with the Where Dreams Come True logo on them. If those come down I'll be happy.

Are there similar "Where Dreams Come True" decorations at the WDW parks? Are they being removed?

Maybe they're letting it die-out like they did the whole Magical Gathering promotion? Then they'll switch to a new promo, rather then carry this one through the end of the year.

No. Nothing is being removed.

The little update thing on the Miceage site only mentions "Disneyland". It doesn't even say "Disneyland Resort", although no one on the West Coast really calls it that anyway. You just say Disneyland and mean both parks.

But Miceage only has mention of Disneyland removing their Where Dreams Come True stuff this week.

Yes, there are white pieces of nothingness that are supposed to be character profiles, but look like used napkins, littering the Mickey floral in front the RR Station.

What is wrong with "Where Dreams Come True"? I think its just as good as "The Happiest Place on Earth", if not better. Im surprised Disney even reads the internet, since they are able to just assume that whatever they change from its original form is going to be bitched about. Too many people around here want the place to be a frickin' museum.

Ok.. i'm just going to ignore certain people - but the folks i trust are saying that DL's YOMD's decor is being "replaced" and they don't know what the story is for WDW.

So, yes, YOMD's stuff is being chucked into the trash at DL.

Better than 'The Happiest Place on Earth'? That is one of the most globally-recognized slogans ever created!

The problem with "Where Dreams Come True" wasn't so much in the slogan itself but rather the fact that it was a generic slogan created for the entire division which thus took away from the uniqueness of each resort. Add "Disney Parks" merchandise to that and you get the picture of a franchise theme park operation.

CORRECT. The problem has nothing to do with the new slogan. It's that the entire Disney Parks campaign was a failed attempt to dilute all the parks into one huge Wal-Mart vision of conformity.

Returning the parks to their previous slogans is simply a subtle way of saying, "We recognize that the two resorts are different, and we aren't going to try to make everything a spreadsheet vision of post-modernism."
