Year Of A Million Dreams Has Been Cancelled!!!

Could be a prank since today is 7-7-07. For those familiar with slot machines in casinos, that would be the lucky 777. For those who despise the campaign, it would be their "lucky day" if it was canceled, thus it could be a joke, expecially since the blurb on micage starts off "Lucky us"......, or it could be just coincidental timing.

With some saying they have some confirmation though, I don't know. Maybe it is just being reintroduced in a different format. I find it hard to believe given that Iger attributed the campaign to the attendance and spending increases at WDW and DLR last quarter, unless something happened as insinuated above in which they legally can't or don't want to continue it.

There is absolutely NO truth to this, sorry. None. Zero. Nada. Cancelling it alone would put nearly 100 people out of jobs and warehouses full of prizes would go to waste.

Perhaps MiceAge is using the fact that it is "cancelled" as a figure of speech for something that was less than magical that happened.

I understand where you're coming from, but I was told that it's "cancelled," too. Maybe elements of it are remaining while others are cancelled; maybe it has been shortened from its original deadline; maybe they decided to overhaul the entire thing since it was never properly planned in the first place. I don't know what the details are.

I don't know when the official "last day" is; but as soon as I saw this thread open I called around to get some information.

Unless it's a cruel prank, it is indeed true.

What are you talking about?

"Unless it's a prank it's true" ... that would make since, wouldn't it? Because it is a prank. Shouldn't this be "innocent until proven guilty"? One person says something and you're automatically assuming it's true? Please call Disney at 407-WDISNEY at 7 AM EST tomorrow so that you can hear for yourself how ridiculous this "rumor" is. Disney wouldn't just abandon a promotion that so many people's jobs rely on, that so much expense has been spent on, that so much time has been put towards, and that has been so wildly successful.

Hey dont kill the messenger!!! I just read this on Mice Age in the Editors Daily Notes. Al Lutz said it is over and he will give more details next week in his mice age column.
I didn't kill the messenger, I said I'll doubt your veracity.

What I see on the MiceAge.com home page is a teaser. What it is a teaser for may not be what it implies it's for, thus it's a teaser. No-one with a scoop as big as what's implied would tease it and then wait four days to actually report it, it would be guaranteed to leak before then and they'd lose the edge. So I'm guessing it's something to the effect that the current YOAMD is being canceled and reintroduced as a "bigger and better" YOAMD...

But until Disney stops advertising it, it's highly unlikely that what you've interpreted is what will happen.

Read what I posted right after this.

No - none of that is true, either. I don't even know where you get this "never properly planned in the first place." While they did have to learn as they went the first few months the entire promotion is very fluid right now and there are no problems that would suddenly cause it to shut down.

Except that a large number of people hate it or are unimpressed by it... That's a good reason to end a promotion.

Saint - ya got nuffin. Tirian has a good track record. Heck, Al Lutz has a 50/50 track record. You're just spouting what the hub says, and we all know it doesn't get updated quickly.

This thread is retarted. I just saw a YOAMD commercial 5 minutes ago.:ROFLOL:

That doesn't mean they're not canceling the promotion. It's not like they'd immediately call up the tv stations and website designers and say "Quick! Pull all the ads! Abort! Abort!" I'd imagine they'll just wind it down and set a date for when all of that should be finished.

Hope it's true, but don't know.

And you have empirical evidence for that or are you just spouting too?

What are you talking about, merf? The promotion is WILDLY successful. Disney management themselves have repeatedly mentioned as such. I don't need a "track record" but tomorrow you can call Disney and ask them yourself how much of a joke this is. And go ahead and look closer at those pics you posted yesterday or the day before...your guy who is "spouting what the hub says" may know more than you think - at least on this issue.

I have a feeling the commercials and other media will continue, but slowly diminish since disney sent the tapes to be played and such ahead of time... and its cheaper to play them for advertising, than to swap them out for brand new commercials which would cost more money...

besides, almost all of their commercials has year of a million _____ all over it.

if it's been canceled now, they would get rid of the extra stock and cycle out whats left of the promotion.

Or... they have decided to drop the name, and continue with the smaller dreams of fast passes, mickey ears, and a single free small photo which most tourists eat up.

Thanks for this post, Monty.
I'd like to see your evidence, merf, about how terrible this promotion is. Go ahead and link over to your favorite forum containing a YOMD board (Disboards is one of them) and read about all the magical moments people have received. If that doesn't sell you, you should have seen in your own work location by now the magic created for the guests.

I have absolutely no track record, but I do not believe Disney could just end a sweepstakes promotion in the middle without serious legal or, at the very least, public image problems. Maybe it is being enhanced, or even being pushed back to the original "year" but I cannot believe it is being canceled. I can't wait to see how this pans out...

I'll just leak what I've been sitting on...

YoaMD may be coming to a premature close, but let's just say every cloud has a SILVER lining! Can't say much more than that, but you'll soon see that all of Disney marketing has been put on hold and is going the FULL 25 YARDS--for a full 18 months! You all know about a certain magical instrument being dismantled somewhere in WDW, but soon enough we'll also see something else in that park's entrance plaza getting LAID TO REST! Plus, opening its doors October 1--something big is on the HORIZON for the land currently occupied by Mission: Space! And don't look now, but you might be seeing some old friends that may or may not rhyme with "LAVILION POGOS"! It's no wonder us good folks at Disney marketing are dropping everything to start anew--why stop at a million dreams? We've just begun!

Oh, and don't forget your daily dose of NaCl in case none of this ever, ever comes to pass! :D
