I am the master at contracting a sinus infection before Disney trips. I get sinus infections pretty regularly when the seasons change so I know how to treat them fairly quickly. However, if we are going to Disney and I'm starting to feel sick, I normally go to the ear, nose, and throat doctor and get it looked at. A shot or a Z-pack kills anything that could infect others, but the symptoms take a few days to go away. So, long story short, yes I would still go depending on the symptoms. I have come home with some pretty nasty sinus infections from others who weren't as courteous :hungover: Pro tip: my family used to regularly get the stomach bug. We started picking up a pack of bottled water on the way to our resort, and we haven't gotten a stomach bug since! Something about the tap water got to us. So if you are having the same issue, try only drinking bottled water while in your room.

Considering that the water from that tap is municipal water treated to drinking water standards set by the EPA, I doubt the water itself was the source of your family's stomach problems. Bottled water is regulated by the USDA and as such is not held to the same potable water standards as municipal water from your tap. Nor is it tested as frequently as municipal potable water is. If you are concerned about water quality, I would use a water filter pitcher like Brita or Pur and filter that tap water. Much cheaper than bottled water and most remove chlorine and minerals which affect the taste of tap water, along with other particulates. Much of the municipal water in South Florida doesn't have the greatest taste due to salt water intrusion resulting from draining the acquifers faster than they can be recharged. If you think Disney's water tastes icky, then don't try the water in Tampa.

My soap box for the day. That, and I worked for FDEP for 10 years, half of that in water resources.

3 years ago we drove down - myself and husband had bad colds. We arrived on a Saturday and modified our park plans so we had Saturday, Sunday and Monday to lay in the sunshine next to the pool at the house, drink plenty of fluids and rest - by Tuesday we were healthy. We called in to our doc and she called in Z-Packs and prednisone for my asthma. Drugs, fluids and laying in that Florida sun is the best Rx.

I guess it depends on the illness and situation - we made it work and having the house to rest up in vs a hotel room was a bonus.

I also did WDW 8 months pregnant escorting 4 handicapped seniors on scooters - if you can do that, you can do anything.

I used to get sick with a cold a few days after going home for Christmas. Drove my mother nuts. Could have been a bug I picked up on the flight home. Or that I'd gotten very little sleep and didn't eat very well the week before since I spent most of the week studying for and taking finals.

Ah yes, "the finals flu!" That is the only thing I don't miss from working in higher ed.

I used to pop Airborne like Charlie Sheen pops Viagra.

I don't remember ever having gone while sick but more than once, a cold has followed me home. I thought it was the ghosts who were supposed to do that.

Between the recycled air on the flights and the germs of the entire planet being hacked and sneezed all over the place, it's semi-miraculous when I get home without a cold.
Last year it happened to me where I got sick about a week after being at the World. I don't know if it helped this year, but I decided to pregame the trip with loading up on Vitamin C for a few weeks beforehand and made sure I was eating properly. Also, was keeping a little bottle of hand sanitizer with me...who knows if that all really worked or got lucky. Never got sick this time.

That might be the problem. Very few people buy the insurance. I know I never had for a trip to Disney. I did when I went to Europe ($255.00 I'll never see again), but, if I had needed it there is no telling how much it might have saved me. Especially the medical coverage part.

This. We drive to WDW, so I don't bother with travel insurance. But when we travel overseas I get it. Last time, my husband had a possible detached retina the day before we were due to fly to the UK. Fortunately, we had a family connection that allowed him to see a specialist the night before (after hours) and got an all clear - just a small tear, don't bounce around and try to take it easy. Otherwise, we would have had to cancel the trip.
