Good morning ☀️

I completed the second week of my 10 week strength training program. It was a HIIT w/o. I swear, they are the shortest workouts, but they feel like they go on forever. :hilarious:

I have been seeing more and more Lanterfly nymphs and adults. I stomp on the nymphs when I see them when I am out on my walks. My son kills the adults in our backyard. I was cooking dinner yesterday and I saw one fly up into one the trees in my yard. I sometimes think these invasive bugs get here 'accidentally on purpose'. These lanternflies can do a lot of economic devastation.

I saw one over the weekend in Hershey. There were some Spanish speakers in front of me in line going "Oh look, cool bug!" I'm like, uh no, not cool bug. Then I killed it. Those things are so gross.

Welcome back. I'm looking forward to your TR.

I lol'd a little when your girls accused you of "being old." Were they implying you are senile?

I some times think downhill is worse than uphill, especially when it's steep. I think you brace your entire body to prevent yourself from falling forward. Depending on the type of trail, you might have to step down sideways, too. I think that would make you very sore.

I'm not sure if senility was the angle, or just that our bodies aren't what they once were and that .5 miles now feels like 3. I'm not sure if I should be happy that we were right though. I think I'd rather be like the girls and have 4 miles only feel like .5.

It was very steep in a number of places, extremely dark, a bit narrow, and damp...so I think we were just being extra cautious and bracing more with each uncertain step.

@HouCuseChickie I'm looking forward to seeing something about your trip. I like to see your journeys through the National Parks.

Thanks! We visited nine national parks, three national monuments, one national memorial, a number of national forests/grasslands/recreation areas, as well as four or five non-park points of interest. I feel like it almost NEEDS to be reported. 😂

Poor kid. Please let her know we're all thinking of her and hope she gets better soon.
Thanks. She's mostly fine. We went and watched IMAX films and we did an escape room and she was fine. Minimal walking, but the one side of her foot is really sore from having to walk differently to keep the pressure off of the toe. We're going to see the Jungle Cruise movie today, and she's possibly going to the movies with a friend tomorrow, but they haven't finalized plans. He suggested watching Escape Room, but she watched the trailer and said nope, not gonne happen, so if they go, they have to pick something else out and there's not much to choose from.

The toe looks a bit better today. It's a lighter blue at least.

Good afternoon-

I did a glutes and hamstring workout this AM. I love how every workout has something new in it. I get bored pretty easily. This is probably the best YouTube program out there for strength training, IMO. This woman is a proper personal trainer and you can tell in the workouts.

I was going to go for a walk. I couldn't bring myself to do it. It's garbage day and no matter what time I go out, a garbage truck or a lawn waste truck gets into my breathing space. It's so nasty in the summer. So, I did day 1 of Couch to 10K on my treadmill. I'm not sure I will keep at it, since it was just a way for me to avoid breathing fetid air on my walk. Some of these trucks smell like giant dirty diapers on wheels. 😷🤢🤮

Hello-

Today was an upper body workout. My arms felt like noodles at the end. I tried to do a final round of push up and I could not "push up." I was just flat, face down on the floor. It was total failure. :hilarious:

I found out last night my grandma's nursing home is on lockdown, because of a covid outbreak. Apparently, a lot of people who provide direct care won't get vaccinated. This makes me mad. Then don't work with with vulnerable populations if you're not going to protect them. I think nursing homes, of all places, should mandate vaccines for their employees. I'm kind of tired of tip toeing around these people. Anyway, we have to cancel our trip, because she'll be locked down for our dates. The silver lining is it gives us more time to get my son vaccinated. I just hope my gram doesn't get ill. She's already had covid and has had Pfizer, so I hope this helps her somewhat.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry! That is awful! I can't believe they even allow non-vaccinated people to care for vulnerable people. I hear so many people say "Well, it's their own choice if they don't get the vaccine and then they get sick." And it IS, BUT they don't take into consideration all the people those people might infect. There are people who can not get vaccinated because of allergies or certain medical conditions or whatever. They depend on the herd immunity to remain safe. And now there are how many elderly people who might get sick because of selfish idiots who won't do the right thing to protect others. And of course you don't know how long it will be on lockdown because it will depend on how fast the outbreak dies down and how far it spreads. So you can't really make new plans, can you? Does your travel insurance cover this cancelation or are you out the money? I hope it's covered and you can make the trip soon.

What I don't understand is to work in any kind of a care facility, you have to be a registered nurse, right? So you would have to have some medical training and education about pathogens and whatnot, correct? How can you work in a medical field and not believe in vaccines??

Have you mentioned it to your son? I was thinking about this...when A was diagnosed, we got training through an organization here that has done all sorts of research in autism and the founder literally wrote the book on Autism...actually several books. One of the things that our trainer taught us to do with irrational fears was to sketch it out or make a list so he could see it on paper and make connections. You ask him specifically what it is he's afraid of. For example, he's afraid that the vaccine isn't safe and he'll die from it. So you look up the statistics...how many people have died from the vaccine. You can draw stick figures to depict the number of people....1 stick figure for every 100,000 people and then do the same for the number who have died from covid. That way it visually shows how much worse the virus is. You can do the same to show people hospitalized....how many who need hospitalization have been vaccinated and how many are unvaccinated? That shows how much protection he would get from the vaccine. If you look up all the information with him and he SEES it, rather than you just saying it, it could make a difference.

How's your husband now? Is he feeling better since the dietary restrictions? I'm assuming he can eat more now, but is the colitis gone?
Thank you for asking. The doctor says he's doing great and "healed" faster than almost any case he's seen. He's easing foods back into his diet slowly but will remain gf/df for quite a while and he may never be able to add them back as they are major triggers

I don't know how your son deals with the pressure of not being vaccinated. I got bashed on the covid thread by that one member, and I MEDICALLY can't get vaccinated right now. Fortunately everyone else was on my side but yeesh.

I'm glad he's doing well. It must be hard, at least at first, when you change your diet so drastically. I don't know how people eat with special diets. Vacations would be especially hard, because you don't know which restaurants have those options, and you can't risk cross contamination. I know over here, there are very few substitutes. I don't think I've ever seen vegan cheese, but I suppose I may have just overlooked it because I'm not looking specifically for it. And I've seen low carb bread, but not Gluten Free, except in a specialty store and then it costs an arm and a leg. I think it would be extremely difficult to eat in a restaurant. I know you've been eating this way for years, but I don't know how you do it.

How are your ankles?

Someone bashed you because you CAN'T get vaccinated? Isn't that kind of the point of encouraging everyone else to get it? Because there are some who can't and if those around them aren't protected, neither are they? How ignorant do you have to be to attack someone for not wanting to die of an anaphylactic reaction? I don't know how it works over there, but here, you have to fill out this entire form about health history, and if you have a history of thrombosis, or a severe allergic reaction to meds, or a previous reaction to a vaccine, they won't let you get it. I didn't know what constituted a serious allergic reaction, so I put a ? on my form for that since I'm allergic to Pennicillin, EES, Erythromicin, Cephalexin, etc. I had to go through a separate line and talk with a healthcare professional first and describe my reaction and how it was treated, etc, before they approved me getting the vaccine. If you can't get it, you can't get it. It's not like you are not getting it because you just don't feel like it.

Over here getting gf/df foods are quite easy even Aldi has some of each. Yes an arm and a leg which is why I cook so much from scratch. Thank you again both ankles are fine knocking on the racoon's head

Yup. It's basically the same thing over here. Pharmacies and all WILL NOT vaccinate you if you've had a previous anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine; even my doctor's office won't do it.

But this guy...oh this guy. First, he tried to say that allergies weren't a reason to get the vaccine. I told him he was wrong on that count. He then went on to say that if I wasn't vaccinated, I basically shouldn't be doing anything. Then he backtracked when I told him that I literally wear a mask everywhere and would be willing to be tested if I went to a large event that required vaccination. Then he backtracked again and was making all kinds of wild claims, like that he was some sort of experts, that even kids under 12 shouldn't be going to indoor dining and events even if they're masking/getting covid tests...

My other favorite on that thread was that I questioned if the Florida governor constitutionally had the power to impose some of these executive orders he's made and that some Florida attorneys should seriously look into it. I promptly got told I was wrong. Well, it turns out that there's now a suit where one of the executive orders is being challenged because it violates the Florida state constitution. 🙄

Sounds like someone is exhibiting Dunning Kruger effect symptoms. He thinks reading a few online articles makes him an expert. What does he think is the point of vaccination if it's not so that people can get back to life without as much worry? Yes, there are some who CAN'T get vaccinated, but the rest of us get it not just to protect ourselves, but also to reduce the spread. That's the way it's supposed to work, so that those who can't get it don't have to lock themselves up, so that they can have a life, too.

The argument people make over here is that everything should be open and no one should have to wear masks or get vaccinated because it should be up to the vulnerable people to lock themselves away so they can't catch it, so that everyone else can do what they want and not have to feel guilty about giving it to someone else. And then of course there's the group who think it's a hoax. Yeah....the leaders of the ENTIRE WORLD got together to conspire to tank the global economy by blocking travel and trade with other countries. Seems logical for them to do that.
