Wookies, & Rebels, & Droids... OH WHY?! The Anti-SWL in Disneyland Thread

The desperately needs more familiar for the casual fans. Hondo on the Falcon ride is still one of the dumbest things about it.

That was one of my first concerns when Star Wars Land was announced aside from 14 acres being dedicated to one IP. I didn’t understand what the point of creating an IP land based on an unknown place was. It seems counterintuitive. I get what they re going for though and appreciate the effort to give us something sort of original.

This is just another example of not being focused and trying to do too much. We re going to give you an IP Land but it’s a new place you’ve never seen in the movies but the Falcon is going to be there but not Chewie and Han it’s Hondo (Who?) and it’s not a really a great simulator but it’s not a great video game either and the land is going to be a Forest, I mean a desert, no a petrified Forest.

Maybe I’d feel differently if the end product didn’t look like Iraq?

I think having it be an original planet with all the highlights of the Star Wars the average person loves is a great idea, it just fails to give the highlights.

Hard to execute condensing 40 years worth of material into just the highlights and satisfy everyone...

I think whats hard to execute is the combination of an IP with an original land that needs to include some of those highlights. It’s a little too watered down and scattered. It’s not an original singular concept like Adventureland or NOS and it’s not an IP land taken directly from a movie like Wizarding World and Cars Land.

Again, I think it’s ambitious but harder to execute. Maybe I’d feel differently If I liked the aesthetics more. Maybe I’ll feel differently after visiting in person or ROTR opens?

I don’t think anyone can logically expect 40 years of highlights in one land. With that said, you don’t run into this issue when you pick one location from the movies like Endor for example.

Great points!
I'm holding out my final opinion until I go on Rise... but I can already tell its gonna have to be one hell of an attraction to get my to slog my way back there and wait in what are sure to be ridiculously long lines.

This is my pre-visit problems with GE: In photos, it looks like a garbage dump. I know why they did it, and the fact that the SW Universe has always looked "lived in" has always been one of the few things I actually like about the franchise. This is all before seeing it live, and I might feel differently when I actually visit, but I would actually have preferred a more pleasing-looking SW tribute land with several thrilling rides than an attempt to create a full-size SW fantasy location. When it comes right down to it, the world of SW is a pretty crappy place to live.

I think you and I are are pretty much in agreement with what we want out of a land or rides. We want an aesthetically pleasing land with fun rides. I think those 2 should be the pillars of any land. Then you work the immersion around those two things.

This is the problem with setting a SW land in a location. Over the course of 8+ films, where did we spend the most time in a singular location?

Exactly. They needed to create a neutral ground where multiple storylines could co-exist.
Or how about a great-looking SW land that captures the *feeling* of SW without trying to duplicate one location? Star Tours did it brilliantly. I guess we're lucky Disney didn't bulldoze Jungle Cruise to recreate a village from the Pirates movies. "IT'LL SMELL JUST LIKE REAL PIRATES!" "HALF THE CMS WILL ACTUALLY HAVE SCURVY!"

That would be good, but you run into the issue of determining what "feels" like SW. Half of the time you're in a spaceship blasting around at light speed, the other time you're on a weird planet. It seems like a no-win situation.

Star Wars "is" John Williams's score, Ben Burtt's sound effects and Ralph McQuarrie's design influence. With those three pillars, Disney could create any kind of space port area--one that looks a lot more appealing than GE, and everyone would be happy except a tiny percent of fanboys grousing, "But it's not canon. It doesn't fit the time line. I can't believe any of this."

The original Star Tours, especially Tokyo's, did a perfect job at recreating Star Wars.

This is the look Galaxy's Edge is lacking and I'm hoping Rise of the Resistance fills.
