Design by committee never works. It takes a strong individual with a vision (Walt, Lassiter, Rohde,...).

Committees produce results that satisfy everyone and inspire no one.
Honestly, who they need back to “fix” this is Tony Baxter. It’s obvious. He understands EPCOT more than anyone there currently I think.

The problem is that Walt is dead, Lassiter might as well be and Rohde is not high enough in the company to make those big decisions about park design without high management authority. Plus I heard he got his earring stuck in his mattress and is awaiting a rescue unit to see if they can get him freed up.

One side wants to restore the vision they had before (as much as you can I suppose), one wants IP everywhere and they're stuck in the middle on how to do it?
The answer is balance. And I have some ideas on how to do it. 2 of those ideas being, the original Journey into Imagination ride brought back with upgraded technology and enhanced effects (ala the upgrades done to Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and Disneyland’s Fantasyland rides). While Inside Out gets a new attraction in the Wonders of Life pavilion in the old Cranium Command space. In regards to the rest of the park (with the exception of SpaceShip Earth and Living with the Land). I say, do whatever. But all I hope is that there’s a balance between things that’ll appeal to both audiences. Attractions done in Epcot’s original spirit of inspiration and discovery *and* some film IP based attractions. That’s the best way to go. Infact, that’s why Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom still work so well today. Balance. Without that balance, the park is screwed.

There can absolutely be balance. I'm with you. It's why I champion for the vision of the past but also tying it into current IP. But the experience needs to be worthy of that. And they've failed with the overlays. And they didn't have to be failures either. They could have naturally fit (even if some are deadset against IP). The recent one, while not a "failure" (it's "good enough") is UP into Flights of Wonder. It seemed like a mish-mash of "we want to tie into Asia but also add comedy from UP" and it doesn't quite work, but it gets a pass because it's "good enough." I'm tired of "good enough" lol. I've talked recently about how Soarin' and Test Track fit Epcot but they needed to be true expansions, not replacements and that they need to have a more complete queue experience. What's there is, again, "good enough" but the experience doesn't feel complete.

EDIT:
The Seas with Nemo & Friends didn't have to be a rehash of the movie. Instead learning about the ocean in a fun way with Mr. Ray and Nemo & Friends was the way to go.

Turtle Talk with Crush is fine. (I could see replacing him with Dory as the main focus)

I know some want the original Living Seas back but Nemo is fine if utilized properly.

And for The Land. All I can picture is "A Bug's Land" but why rehash a land they're digging out of DCA? I guess if they want to re-purpose and paint as new they can get away with it.

And I really don't mind having things like Mary and Ratatouille in World Showcase as long as there's balance. Frozen still irks me but it is what it is at this point.

You’re very right, though I find it to be an exception in Imagination’s case. Unlike other old Epcot attractions, The original attraction works fine as is. As not only is the the theme and message still completely relevant and not dated. But there are already completely timeless, lovable characters in it already. Thus why that attraction in particular doesn’t need a movie IP attached to it to make it work. This has been proven twice already with both Journey into Your Imagination and Journey into Imagination with Figment, both utilizing the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Institute ride. That is perfect proof they don’t need a movie IP shoved into it to make it relevant. If we look at Figment & Dreamfinder merchandise sales alone. That ought to be a clear sign of this.
