Wilderness Lodge

Hey Everybody, Just signed up and thought I would post a question. Going to DW November and cant decide if we should spend the money on Wilderness Lodge or just stay in a budget property. We keep going back and forth because how much time do you really spend in your room anyway. So should we splurge and stay in the wilderness lodge? We are not going with kids if that makes a difference in where we should stay.

I just started looking at the DVC stuff. Doesn't it 'cost' less points to stay at som

I have the DVC and it's more points for Riverside (DL) because of maid services and other amenities. For a Sat. to Sat. stay in September for Riverside is 154 points and for a Sat. to Sat. stay for a Studio at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge is 104 points.

they sort of are. in standard rooms, the set up is about the same as it is in a room at DL or such (thank God for that! i don't know what i'd do if i didn't have some reminder of my pre-DVC years!). the only difference is that there's a kitchen area, and the bathroom area is there as soon as you walk into the room, and of course, there's either a balcony or a patio (i hate the patios!) and instead of two queen sized beds, there's one queen sized, and then a couch that folds out to make a bed. i think the only DVC standard i've stayed in with two queen sized was Old Key West...but the whole room was set up completely differently then the other standards, so...but yeah, that's generally what we're doing...trading in services for space. oh and get this, if you run out of clean towels, and call room service for more, you have to pay $6. though, i think next time, i'll just tell mom to steal some from the pool or something! it's absurd to pay that much for the DVC, then have to pay $6 just to get clean towels!

btw, for you, i just looked up the room layout of regular WL rooms, and they're set up almost exactly like DVC standard rooms. only regular WL rooms have 2 queen sized beds and it seems to be a closet where DVC's have a kitchen area (across from the sinks). here's the link if you'd like to see the difference (if you haven't already checked it out)

Sorry Jedi, didnt evn see your question!! Yes Tony's Town Square is stepping up to cover for the CP while being refurbished. It is a preplated breakfast that is served at Tony's now but the characters are still there (Pooh and friends) Also Id check out www.wdwig.com. Go to the menus section and look under character meals to find out where Pooh & friends are at.

Great. Thanks for the tip. I assumed that since the CP was closed that Pooh and friends were on 'vacation'. But now we can go to Tony's and see them. Cool!

Cripes!!! $6 for extra towels and you DVC people are supposed to be the 'favored ones'!!?? That's just crazy!!!

So, despite missing DL, what do you think of the DVC? Is it worth the investment?

Thanks for the link showing the room, that's really cool. I've never seen that before. The rooms look nice. Pretty standard (ha, maybe that's why they call them standard rooms:lol: ), but nice.
It'll be the first time we've stayed in a Disney room that didn't have an exterior entrance. That'll be weird.

So you're going Thanksgiving week? Are you going to be there on or after the 30th?

boy, you're telling me! my mom was pretty put out by it when they told her that! i wonder what they would charge if we asked someone to clean our room before we left?

"So, despite missing DL, what do you think of the DVC? Is it worth the investment?"
well, when you put it THAT way....:D you know, i really don't know. in some ways it is, and in some ways it isn't. i like being able to stay at the deluxe resorts...but i want more of a choice in where we're able to stay on what 'little' points we can afford. plus, it's hard to please everyone in my family...all of us loved DL, so that was no problem. but with the DVC, everyone else loves WL...and don't get me wrong, i do too, but i also love BW. i think my parents have in mind to stay at WL every trip from now on, and i'd like to go to BW every now and then...but my mom hates BW, and since she's the one that makes the reservations, i really have no say so. but is it worth the investment? it may save us money if we go more than once a year, but i prefer the traditional way, and for me the DVC is a break in tradition, which i hate. so if you're a traditional type person like me, and you've already set a 'foundation' with the moderate resorts, then it's likely that you won't like the DVC. but of course that's all up to you...if you and your family enjoy staying at WL just as much as DL, then DVC is something that you'll want to look into...but if i were you, i wouldn't look too much into until trying WL out first.

yeah, not having the outside entrance is a little weird, but personally, i kinda like it better. it just seems more private to me when it's an indoor entrance...plus, you don't have to worry about having to find your room key while it's raining outside! sure, they having coverings so you don't stand in the rain, but it's just more conveinent with an indoor. plus, it means, you get either a balcony or a patio. the patios kinda freak me out though...we had one on our last trip, and it was literally on the ground...if someone could've gotta past the shrubery, they could've gotten to our patio! and if they really wanted to, they could've easily broke into our room. i didn't like that thought at all. so personally, i like balconies better. they just seem more private that way.

yep, i'll be there Thanksgiving week! i think i'll be there on the 30th, but we're leaving on the 1st....2nd at the latest, but i really think it's the 1st.

:D Thanks Ya'll! :D

I really do appreciate the sweet thoughts, and I'll make sure to remember them on the actual date!

As for visiting the World for my b-day, I've always wanted to, but it's so close to Thanksgiving that I've been afraid of the holiday crowds - hate crowds! Of course, this year it is on the monday before so maybe...

Well, I can always dream anyway! :)

lol! you'd better remind us! otherwise, it's likely i'll forget! :animwink: :D

honestly, i've been there during several holidays, and so far Easter has been the worst! Thanksgiving isn't all too bad! well, it's bearable at least. but yeah, Easter and, i think Memorial Day, are the two worst i've seen so far. but it's warmer then too, so the crowds just make it seem even hotter! whereas on Thanksgiving, sometimes you kinda welcome that warmth! but the Osbourne lights is the crowdest thing i've seen about Thanksgiving. and sometimes there can be quite a crowd on Thanksgiving. but usually people are traveling right before or right after Thanksgiving Day, so it's not too bad! :)

 Oh, I'm sure I'll bring up the b-day a billion times....I always do!

As for trip-planning purposes, I really want to be there for the F&W festival this year, so that's a smidge early for the big day. I really do want to be there some year on my day...preferably in the Contemporary - Tower room, MK view of course! :D

See, I'm still dreaming all the time!

Dizknee_Phreek -
hey! sorry I've been away on a mini-vacation.
Thanks for the post.
Its funny how much we're thinking alike on this one. I'm definatly a traditional kind of guy. That's why we go to Epcot on our first night, I have this mental list of things we have to do while we're in Disney because they're tradition. So the DVC does sound like a total break of tradition, not to mention that it would be 'harder' to stay at DL or CB. I'm sure we'll enjoy WL, but the other two will always be our foundation. CB because that's the first place we ever stayed and DL just because its so nice.
But I'm also an options kind of guy, I have to review all the options. So I'll take your advice and wait until we we get back from this trip to go thru the DVC stuff and see how it looks (maybe that will help with my post-Disney depression:animwink: )

Your Mom didn't like the BW? How come?

Patios do sound kinda weird, I love heights, so we're going to request a room as high as possible:)

Cool, maybe we could arrage to bump into each other on one of those days. I've never met someone from the message boards at the parks. It'd be kinda neat.

no problem! ;)

totally! me too! my family and I have been 13 times, and there's things we *have* to do each time...attractions we have to check out, places we have to eat...pictures we have to take....i can't tell you how many pictures we have of the SAME things! lol!
no kidding! CB was your first on property resort? me too! we stayed in Kissimee our very first trip, then CB our 2nd. my sister and i ALWAYS had to have Jamaca (sp?) because it was the only island in the Caribbean we had ever heard of...plus we've always loved how they talk! we stayed in CB about 3 or4 times then tried DL, and fell in love!
but i'm an options kind of person too...i stay very close to my traditions, but i'm always willing to try out something new!

 mom's just kinda weird like that. i'm not really sure why she doesn't like it. all she says is that she thinks it's nice, but doesn't feel like she's in Florida when we go there. but yet she LOVES WL and to me, there's less 'Florida' in WL than there is BW! *shrugs* go figure!

yes, i love heights as well! they freak me out to an extent, and i do get somewhat dizzy when i'm REALLY high off the ground (especially if i were to plunge to certain death if i just so happen fell off) but, i love them!

yes, that would be very cool if we could arrange a meeting! i've never met anyone off the boards either...but i have met an internet friend of mine that works at WDW, and that was really cool! i have no idea what park(s) i'll be in around the 30th (especially since we usually don't decided what park we're going to until the night before) but it sort of depends on whether we'll choose to see the CP at Epcot that night or the Christmas lights at MGM. i'll keep ya posted though! :)

Hey Dizknee_Phreek -

You have to at least enjoy a sugar cookie for me while you're there...my plans are so iffy at the moment that I'm not sure I'll be there to enjoy my own before then

 - I guess Mom's are just funny that way. My Mom is the same. But to be totally honest, I find myself thinking the same way sometime. Scary!!

  Funny you should mention the picture thing. I don't even want to count the number of Castle pictures we have. I'm a bit of a shutterbug, so I have my camera with me at all times. And you know how it is when you're down there, everything is so beautiful that you want pictures of it all. We've got photo albums full from each trip we've taken!!

We stayed in Aruba on our first trip to CB and Jamaca (sp?) the next time. They were both great, cause you got to go for the moring walk over the bridge and thru the cay to get breakfast.

If you want to try an awesome height trip, Cedar Point has the Millenium Force roller coaster. At 300 ft tall, its an amazing rush!!!

We usually don't decide what we're doing until the night before either. Depends on the weather and what mood we're in. But we could try to keep in touch and maybe it'll work out. I read about people from the boards meeting down there all the time. It must be cool.
