Where to put tip?

I usually make up envelopes before I leave with a cute design and note on them. Each day of the trip I stick the money in an envelope and then leave it on one of the pillows. They always seem to find it there.

They usually leave a introduction card with the mousekeepers name on it, often on a shelf in the bathroom/sink area. I tuck the money under that, sometimes with a note.

Usually I put them with my 'towel animal' they make the day before with a small note saying thank you. I also love Victoria's idea about pre-decorated envelopes.

If you don't have an envelope you can just put a note with it that says 'For Mousekeeping".
It should make it clear that the $$ is for housekeeping so they won't think they would be taking yours.

near the coffee maker

We do the predecorated envelopes (and pre-stuffed with $$, too:)) They say "for housekeeping...Thank You from Mark & Cathy!" and a couple of blank lines for a personal note or special request. Put a couple of Dis stickers on each enverlope. (I just buy a cheap sheet of character stickers at Wally World, find them on the greeting cards aisles)

I prop the envelope near the coffee maker since they always tidy that area. On the envelope, I can ask for extra coffee or extra towels...they always took the envelope & left what I asked for. Maids always thanked us personally if they saw us going in or out of room, & commented about liking the envelopes, too.

We usually put an envelope with a tip for mousekeeping on the bathroom vanity since that is where they leave their little card.

We are getting ready for our first onsite stay :sohappy:, I was wondering how much to tip Mousekeeping each day, it will be just DH and myself?

We do $20 per day.

It actually pays for itself, I should post a pic of the extras we have. They leave so much stuff that we use it in our spare bathrooms at home for special guests. Little Mickey soaps and shampoos go a long way.

LOL

Exactly. There is almost always a pen and pad somewhere in the room. Just write out "for Mousekeeping" along with any special requests or thank yous and leave the money with that note in a conspicuous place and there should be no problems. $1 per person in the room is plenty generous.

We read last year that you had to make it CLEAR that it was for the Mousekeepers as they are not allowed to take any money that's just left and it's not obviously for them, just in case it wasn't intended for them and as a guide were told in the UG book $1 per person per day - given there is 4 of us we just left $5 a day.

The kids made some envelopes from plain paper before we left - to get them excited in the week before we went - you know the type of thing, just fold a square up, stick a bit of tape on it and draw on the other side.

My DD is really good at drawing and she got out her "How to Draw" books and did some special ones and they wrote a note with it.

Our Mousekeeper at AKL was fantastic - leaving the little animals and things and the kids wrote her notes to say thank you and they tried to make some themselves and she wrote back and stuff.

We left her envelopes on the counter at the sink along with the little animals (so it looked like they were propping them up) so she wouldn't miss them!

Wow, thats a nice tip.

It is similar to what I do a parties with an open bar. The first time up, I usualy drop the guy $10. From then on, even if there is a crowd around the bar, they allways seem to wait on me first for some reason :)

I did my tips before I left. I used the envelopes someone from here suggested (here is the link http://www.themouseforless.com/downloads/trip/mousekeeping.shtml )
I wrote a little note inside each one like Thanks for all your hard work, Thank you for the adorable Towel Animals (which resulted in getting 2 towel animals a day after I left that particular envelope) I taped them closed and put then in a ziplock bag in my purse on the way over. After we checked in, I put them in the in room safe and took out one a day and left it either on the counter above the sinks or the table between the beds. The last day I left like $10 ( I tend to over tip I know they get stiffed in other rooms and do work that well I dont wanna do!:animwink:) the other days I left $2 per person/day since there was just the 2 of us and we arent too messy.
