Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Snow day! No virtual. Woo!

Roads are still unpassable from yesterday's storm due to the winds. The wind chill is also dropping.

The "love" is for your snow day!

Regarding roads, that's not a good situation. I hope the equipment will come by soon to clear the snow. Where I live (we're not in a storm situation for a few more days again), when there's a storm, the city plows are out there 24 hours along with the salt trucks. There are hundreds of large snow removal trucks and also smaller ones (hired from private contractors -- many of them landscaping businesses).

Out here, I don't think the negative temps have fallen quite to your area level, but I do know that (without wind chill factor), they have fallen to negative 10 range, on occasion--but certainly not every storm. Negative temps would be maybe a few times a season, at most. (Wind chill range would increase that, of course.)

The issue with today is temps are getting so low that salt doesn't work. And the plows can't keep up with the snow because it's blowing and drifting so much.

Today was supposed to be our 100th day of school. I guess that will wait until Monday. Unless we're off on Monday, too. The wind chill is supposed to be -35.

Thanks for the clarification. I know the limitations of salt (and should have mentioned that in my post). But I can well understand the drifting issues that heavy snow creates, and it's frustrating for the plow drivers to try and keep up.

As for the -35, I truly don't believe we've ever had anything close to that here!! :jawdrop:

Stay inside, drink hot chocolate, and curl up on the sofa with your favorite blankie! :)

In January 2019 we missed an entire week of school because the wind chills were consistently between -30 and -55 that week.

I just ordered some child safe disinfectant spray from Amazon to use on toys in my classroom, since I figure pretty much all of next week will be indoor recess. And I want the kids to be able to play with something. I can't do a whole week of computer games or coloring books.

So why would anyone live in Wisconsin again? Just kidding, but you are reinforcing my decision to move south. Wind is the biggest factor there. I can remember times when snow drifts 5 to 6 feet high completely blocked roads. Then they finally bought those huge snow blowers and that seemed to make the cleanup a lot easier.

The winters suck, but you can't beat a Wisconsin summer.

In all the years that I've lived here, we've rarely gotten enough snow to close anything down. When A was in either 5th or 6th grade, there was one day where I got called at work because a snow storm was expected and since most kids from A's school are from out of town and are bused in, the bus drivers were refusing to work in the afternoon once the snow started. They needed to get all the kids home before the snow started, and since that was so large a percentage of the kids in the school, they decided just to close school. It wasn't worth it to leave it open for 1 or 2 kids per class. So I had to leave work early to go get A, and he was literally the only kid left at school. They were just waiting for me to get there so they could lock up. That's the closest we've ever come to a "snow day" and it was really only because he goes to Special Education that covers the entire region. All the other schools stayed open.

Now we're set to get up to a foot and a half of snow this weekend, which I've never experienced here....they said this is the worst weather since 2012, but I think they must be referring to temps, because we've never gotten that much snow. The high for Monday is supposed to be like -5 celsius, which almost never happens....I don't think we ever got below zero last year at all. But now we got an email from E's school, because while the majority of kids are doing online school, kids in an exam year do go a couple times a week, and I guess there are some exams scheduled for Monday. So now they have moved those to Tuesday. E's not in an exam year, so nothing changes for her. Kind of sad that the one time they might actually experience a snow day and they are already doing online school, so they don't get to. We always LOVED snow days....I'm sad my kids won't get to enjoy that.
