Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

You know what's funny?
So, can anyone answer my question?

Why is that smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors that run on batteries, seem to run out of the battery power, only around 2-4 AM, and start "chirping"?! :banghead:

Batteries only need replacing about once a year. I find it baffling that whenever it's time to change the batteries, it's never in the middle of the day -- only happens in the middle of the night when people are sleeping!!! :arghh:

about a 50/50 chance, isn’t it....lol

It's just to keep you on your toes.

What?! Ten years? When the heck did they come out with those? Do they remove those detectors from the store shelves, when I walk in there to buy a new detector (maybe every 5 years)? It's a conspiracy!!! :jawdrop:
A while ago - I’ve been systematically replacing mine because they are more expensive than the regular ones but since you aren’t buying batteries it kind of evens out.

I wish there was a silent setting of sorts for those things. That way, it won't disturb anyone with obnoxious chirping.
Ours are electric with batteries, so when one goes off it sets them all off. The really great thing is that when the electricity goes out, they all go off - as in start screeching. The last time we lost power we were out for 6 hours. I was ready to load a shotgun...

The battery backup on my house alarm failed and we didn’t know it wasn’t working. When we lost power nothing happened but when the power came back on the alarm behaved as though the power was intentionally cut and the battery had kicked in - so after 30 seconds of beeping the alarm started blaring. Unfortunately it was 2am. I ram downstairs to disarm the alarm and them the phone rang - it was central station to verify everything was ok. That was a crazy night!

So, because once a year it chirps, we should find a way to silence it and not be reminded that we need to change the batteries that might just save our lives. Something about that sounds like a dangerous situation.

Almost all of us have a computer event calendar. Put an event 11 months from the time we changed the batteries to change them again and then it will never wake anyone up with a middle of the night noise unless it really needs too. Sometimes proactivity can be quite beneficial for multiple reasons. 🙂
