I was born in Chicago and lived there the first few years of my life and we moved to a very nice suburb where my folks are still at. I moved quite a bit in my 20s and then landed here in my little Hamlet. Yes places like ours still exist but boy the way of life takes some getting use to. It was a great place to raise a family, the best schools but it is also difficult. As small and quaint as it is, it is small, every kid knows every kid which isn't always a good thing, my kids had the same kids in their class for 9 years. Talk about clicks. Government tends to be dominated by people who have been her for many generations, they never leave. When my son was in college I generally tell the Sheriff two doors down I was leaving, that way when my DS had parties he would know to come down and tell them all to shut up when it got too loud. We are not always about serenity but we have 125 year old builds and a church that is much older. We have original homes that are almost 200 years old that have been fully restored and on some roads closer to our one block uptown there are still tie downs for residents horses of yesteryear. Some of it is quite charming and other times you just want to scream.
