I just got back from riding in a car with my brother driving... I haven't done that in a while. It's amazing he hasn't gotten a speeding ticket yet. He was going 40 in a 25 and 35 in a school zone. He yields at stop signs and stops at yield signs. He turns at higher than normal speeds, and he doesn't leave a lot of room between him and the car in front of him before he starts to brake. All of this happened in a 5 minute time frame. I was bracing myself pretty much the entire time. *exhales*
He would fit right in here. Except for the stopping at a yield sign when you don't have to. You will be thrown out of the state for doing that.

Yeah, no more arcade.

Jennifer that's a fine idea. I can always swing by for breakfast or dinner and enjoy parts of the beach- the parts that aren't now blocked due to the bungalows... but I doubt I'll ever shell out the money to stay there again.

Just curious, but what are your "home" resorts when yall go to WDW? I'm considering Port Orleans for my next trip.

Riverside.. I fell in love, I always love big green areas and rivers.
still wondering if someday I will get to know and stay AKL, but too expensive for me at the moment.

I'm trying to figure out how long vs. staying where and if renting a car would be a good or bad for us. You have to pay for parking at each lot even if you're staying on site, right? How bad are the busses at the mods and values?

Unrelated, but an interesting behind-the-scenes article on Maleficient... who I've convinced a gaggle of girls to go with me to see when it premieres.

No, parking is free for on-site guests.

I used the buses last time for MK rope drop only.
The rest of the time, for us, a rental car is the best way to go! Especially for getting to the resort dining locations in a timely manner.

I think parking is free at the resort and parks if you're staying at a WDW resort.

The buses can be slow, especially at more spread out resorts with lots of bus stops, like Caribbean Beach.

Parking is free if you are an onsite guest. I'm fine with using the bus system overall. I spent 3 years riding buses back and forth to class and take the train into the city a lot for work. The mods have multiple stops, so you have to consider that for time. The only park I thought it was better to have a car for was AK because I like to book a dinner at another resort that day. Going back to the resort, changing, going to the nearest theme park to the resort I'm eating at, and then getting transport from there is a pain.

I have only stayed offsite at Universal (I'd like to try the new place they opened next time) and we always rented a car for that. Last time we checked out of our hotel and had our bags stored with the bellhop while we went to MK. Then when done we went to Swan/Dolphin where they have a car rental desk, went back to get our bags, and drove to the offsite hotel near Uni. If we stay in the cabana idk if we will rent a car then.

I know you have already gotten your answers, but, as usual, I always have something to add. Yes, if you stay onsite the parking is free no matter where you go within the WDW resort. If you stay offsite you do have to pay for your first park of the day, but, can hop around all day and use your receipt as a pass for parking at the other parks.

On top of that, I save so much money staying offsite that it more then makes up for the cost of car rental and parking. I can't go to EMH, but, I never went to it even when I stayed onsite. When I stayed onsite I also drove my car and have convinced myself, if only in my mind, that I save a bunch of time and a mega-bunch of frustration by doing so.

To those that feel that they can no longer afford to go to WDW because of the cost of the resort, please try it once offsite. You still get to see the same Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy and you can go home with extra money in your pocket.

Thank you.

I'm considering off site as a way of saving $$$ and it seems no matter where I compare prices to, I will be versus even a value on property. I forgot to factor in universal before. We will be renting a car because we gotta see universal next time around.

I just wish disney was more affordable, in general. I can't believe tickets are so pricey! :(

POP is our place. When it comes to paying more money for a room I'm barely in or adding extra days to my trip, I'm staying longer. If we can't get into POP, ASMusic is the backup plan.

Check multiple sites for different times of the year. You might find something at a good discount. Also of you do wind up staying on property I would just hold off on the rental car until you are ready for Universal.

Are you still trying to do a beach visit this summer as well?

Rental cars are cheap in Florida.
I consistently pay less than $200 for 10 days.

I end up saving a big chunk of that just in bottled water savings alone.
It's nice being able to go five minutes off site to Publix and Walgreens.

Last year, our alarm didn't go off (maybe because some dummy set it for pm instead of am), and we had 25 minutes to get dressed, out the door, and over to Boardwalk for an 8:30 ADR @ Cape May Cafe.
We never would have made it using Disney transportation.

Probably not in Florida. There's too much theme park goodness in Florida that's getting in the way of beach time.

I will be at the jersey shore this summer at some point.
