Are you, by some chance, a navigator on a pirate ship...? o_O

I am not a Guild Navigator but I fancy myself prettier than one.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Tomorrow is "President's Day" here in the States.

I am celebrating by going into work like any other day and not having my garbage picked up.
Strange ... we do not celebrate this "President's Day", of which you speak.

Stranger yet, there is no Prime Minister's Day either.

But we do have a Queen's Day, of sorts.
Victoria Day is celebrated on the Monday preceding May 25th each year.
It is referred to as May 2-4 weekend, and heralds the unofficial start of summer.
It is usually the occasion of the biggest fireworks shows of the year; surpassing Canada Day even.

Family Day officially replaces Heritage Day. It is a provincial holiday, but does not affect federal services. Ergo, I cannot go to the grocery store, or have my garbage picked up; but the mailman will unfortunately continue to deliver the junk mail and bills.

Our unofficial start to summer is Memorial Day in late May. It's weird, though. We don't have a Canada Day down in the States.

We have Memorial Day instead of Queen's Day as the unofficial start of summer. It is when my state's beaches "reopen." And by reopen I mean suddenly it costs money to get on them and there are lifeguards. The beach towns that the Boardwalk hotel is modeled after open their amusement parks and games. And worst of all I have to start paying a cover at all the area bars until September.

And @PUSH already answered you about Memorial Day..

May 4 and May 25 are considered Star Wars days. May 25 because that's when episode 4 was released, and May 4 because "May the Forth be with you." I usually observe Star Wars day on May 4 because it's fun to go around saying "May the forth be with you." This year it's on a Sunday and I'll be done my finals, so there will be a movie marathon...

Suddenly Northern IL is looking better. We have beaches, we have lifeguards and we don't have to pay to go to the beach, one of the last free things around these parts. Now parking, you can't afford to pay for the beach after you pay Chicago for parking. We generally go North of Chicago when we head to the beaches, some nice suburban ones.

My beach is $70 for a season pass. I used to get 4 to accommodate guests, but I didn't use the extras enough last summer so people can pay the $10 daily rate themselves now. I keep having to do it when I go to their beaches.

And parking usually costs money too. My town has some pay lots that I have never needed to look at so idk what they cost. There is enough free street parking you don't need to. The next town with the amusement rides and a drinking beach charges like $20 at least to park and you have to pay since street parking you need a permit.

Pedestrians have to walk in the street here because the sidewalks were buried with several feet of snow when the plows came through. If you're trying to catch a bus you have to wait in the street and hope you don't get run over.

Yup, that's a nice daytime photo. Now, imagine yourself standing out there on the street, in the darkness of night! It's happened to me many times over the years, and I've had a few close calls waiting for my bus.

Thank goodness, over the past 2 years, our DPW has finally woken up to the fact that sidewalks on main roads have to be cleared. They use these small tractor-type machines that do a good job of clearing the snow from sidewalks.

You also have Boxing Day up there. We do to... except we call it the day after Christmas. It's nice though that you folks want to give gifts to your servants. :cautious:

So Guest group2 leaves today (maybe), then our niece arrives this afternoon and stays 'til Friday morning. Friday night my sister and her husband and her friend leave from NH to drive down, so they should get here sometime on SundayGroup 1. Now mind you, Group 1 left it up to us for what to see and do - the only thing they requested was Animal Kingdom. So we did that, and also did Sea World and Kennedy Space Center with them. Group2 also wanted to see Kennedy Space Center so we took them there, and then when they found out that Larry the Cable Guy was coming to SeaWorld, they wanted to go to that. Last night I got an e-mail from my sister explaining her itinerary - she wants her friend to see Sea world and Kennedy Space Center. :banghead: Fortunately we have AP's to both or this would have cost us a fortune!
