When are they going to announce a true e-ticket?

I'm sure Disney has got big things up there sleeves. But I think they have there reasons for not announcing it yet.

I don't think the Harry Potter land will be the kiss of death that some are making it out to be, and I think Disney is confident with what they have, so they don't feel the need to come out with news until the time is right.

Totally agree..everyone always does this a new ride/attraction comes out..and with in a month they get tired of it and are waiting for the next new one to come out.
Yes, and harry potter land...like you said will not be the kiss of death...come on people you seriously think that because of an amazing attraction will keep guest for long at a park that has bad food (I only say this from experience, getting a wrap in toon lagoon and it was loaded with gritty sand, it was clearly not clean properly:hurl:) bad customer service. People forget that guests come to disney not just for the attractions but for the service...where it's "Be our Guest" all the time! An amazing attraction may keep guests for a short while away...but when they realize what a terrible move it was to waste the money on a ticket at IOA or Univers. they will come back...they always do.:lookaroun
And Again I agree with you...disney does not need to come out every five seconds with something brand new...lets enjoy what we have because its pretty darn good how it is now!:zipit:

Right now, the MK's answer to Harry Potter is a 'new' Space Mountain, which is something that should have happened about 15 years ago now!

That's right, because 15 years ago guests stopped queuing up for Space Mountain and their numbers dwindled to nothing...

What's that you say?

They still have a huge line?

Its still a greatly popular attraction?

Well, I'll be darned

How many decades has it been since 20K was considered an E-ticket? That'd be like saying the Tiki Room is an E-ticket...which it aint. Especially since they ruined it with Buster Poindexter and Gloria Estefan music.

The subs in DCA are certainly an E-Ticket...

Regardless, Pooh's Playful Plop certainly is not. So we are still at -1.

A few quickees to what's been written:

As to when the MK gets a new E ... maybe in another 10-15 years ... seriously, who knows? As long as people are happy with a stale dumbed down park ... a mass market characture of DL if you will, that's what you'll get.

Right now, the MK's answer to Harry Potter is a 'new' Space Mountain, which is something that should have happened about 15 years ago now!

AGREED!

The most stale park there is. The only reason it's number 1 (and it's slipping vs last year, TDL gained quite a bit) is all the hard tickets which spin the turnstile a second time in the same day. It really deserves better...

Point being that 20K at MK bore little resemblance to DL's (not DCA's). They're two different rides, and MK's 20K wouldn't have been considered an E-Ticket since, I don't know, the early 1980's?

MK relies on being the flagship WDW park and most kid friendly park. That is the biggest reason for it's topping the attendance charts.

River Country was NOT closed for any reason related to water quality or any state law. It was strictly a financial decision by Disney, just like letting it sit and rot is.

That may be the case, but the fact remains that today it *is* a hazzard, and because it's been left to rot for so long many new problems have slithered in...they can't even do much of an inspection these days because it would take weeks/months and lots and lots of money for animal control to clear out the deceased and still living creatures that now inhabit things like the big pool.

The subs are at Disneyland not DCA and they can barely be called an e-ticket because they removed majority of the ride and now all it is is video projections with some theming around the screens (very similar to the nemo ride in florida except this is longer and you ride around in the subs) its actually pretty lame. Its a neutered version of the original submarine voyage totally removing all the cool elements like discovering atlantis, the giant squid, the mermaids, the memorable sea serpent, and most of the AA sea life.

Yep.

That's what happens when you let a park go back to nature ... the pool was maintained for a few years after the park closed in 2001, the rest of the place wasn't. They stopped maintaining the pool a good 4-5 years ago now.

And the sad thing is it will stay the way it is until some kids sneak in -- and it isn't difficult believe me -- and someone will drown. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Not really related to the thread, but with recent conversation on River Country, here as some pics taken a couple years ago which shows River Country's current state. I also heard that WDW Radio podcast on RC a couple weeks ago and it was great. I never got to visit this water park but it was great to hear about it.

Also in response to someone's thought way back in this thread that RC was the world's first water park, I believe they mentioned on the podcast that it was the world's first themed water park, but plain plastic and steel water parks had existed before RC....

That's right. Old River Country closed due to the many issues that came with a 'waterpark' that was tied into a 'live' body of water. Maintenance, treatment, contanmination, etc. were all contributing factors. Too much was out of Disney's control...and we all know Disney likes control.

This is a great post with lots of good input and opinions. I have a lot to respond to so please forgive me in advance if this gets lengthy.

Harry Potter/Seaworld vs. Disney
I believe that DCA is getting most of Disney’s park money right now and I think WDW is lucky to be getting as many small updates as it is while that happens (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, Space Mountain, Mexico, Seas, Laugh Floor) plus bigger rides like Soarin’, Everest, and Toy Story Mania have all opened in the last 3 years. It’s true that TSM and Idol do not compare to Universal or Seaworld’s upcoming attractions right now but I’m sure Disney is probably holding out their big news until Harry Potter opens to compete at the right time.

What's next for Disney?
I do think it’s time for Disney to announce something really big, like Everest was. Perhaps Fire Mountain, Mt Fuji, Journey into the Center of Earth, or even Little Mermaid. I would love a big budget show stopping dark ride like Little Mermaid, Muppets, Nightmare Before Christmas, or the old Marry Poppins ride to open. I never want the parks to be all thrill rides or else it would feel like Six Flags, where all the rides between the thrill rides are not worth seeing. It’s the other attractions too that are needed to complete the parks in and around the thrill rides.

E-Ticket
As for E-tickets as of late, Everest was good, but not good enough (it needed more show scenes and to entertain us longer). And Soarin’, Mission Space, and TSM might be E-tickets, but they do not hold a candle to the scope of Horizons, Great Movie Ride, or Splash Mountain…etc. Disney unfortunately knows that people associate E-ticket with thrills these days, that’s why little mermaid at DCA isn’t getting that label…but I think it is definitely an E-ticket. Cars at DCA is getting that label because it has the thrill element, like Soarin’ did. It’s too bad that the term E-ticket has evolved that way to be honest because these days it would leave huge rides like The Great Movie Ride completely out of E-ticket status, which is ridiculous.

Video Screens
I’ve said this before in other threads but I’m tired of screen-based rides. I think they should only be used in moderation and used to enhance an attraction, not be the attraction. I especially do not believe screens are enough to completely replace the need for physical elements. The descent in Spaceship Earth literally kills me.

Magic Kingdom
Lastly in response the Magic Kingdom being “stale”; Magic Kingdom is the most visited park because it’s the best, not stale, the best. It is home to the most classic and timeless attractions, and obviously many people see that and appreciate that. I know me and my family do.

you don't think the new Cars ride should qualify as an E-Ticket? How much do you know about this particular attraction? I don't consider an E-Ticket to be thrilling. Most E-tickets have some degree of thrill, but not all, and Astro Orbiter is thrilling but no one would call it an E-Ticket. I consider E-Tickets to be the largest, most detailed attractions like the Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror, and from what I have heard about the new Cars attraction, it will certainly be on that level. Further, I don't buy the argument that WDW is "lucky" to be getting the short end of the stick just because DCA flopped. This may be news to Mr. Rasulo, but there is no method on the Walt Disney World Transportation System of getting from WDW to the DLR. They are completely separate entities with separate (and very different) guests, so the average family coming to WDW couldn't care less about what's happening in California.
