I can go to a Disney store a few miles from my house. Guess I should stop in no shops. I could go to comedy clubs and bars a few miles from my house. Good thing PI was shut down!
I think the difference is uniqueness. Splitsville is based on a concept that is not that new. So while Splitsville may not be locally available, a very similar experience can be had throughout the country. What differentiates Splistville Orlando from others besides its size and location on Disney owned property? Pleasure Island, at least initially, sought to have unique versions of the present club concepts. Splitsville may be great, but its not unique or new.

Unique Club concepts already exist ALL over the country and world. AC may have had a set of characters that were regular for it but so do several other clubs crisscrossing the globe. Nothing special in the slightest bit. Let's cry about Ghira at DtD, Rainforest (I mean the local mall had one for YEARS here), HoB, Movie theater anyone? I have four AMCs within 20 minutes of my house (all of which are nicer than DtD's). Look at DLR's DtD with Jamba Juice, that place is the herpes of smoothie stops. Earl of Sandwhich? Turnpike and Mall foodstop all over Florida as well as NewYork. Cali has Build A Bear, Quiksilver, Fossil, and not to mention BOTH have a stereotypical sunglass stop. Splitsville is definitely a bit more limited than ANY of those. Crying about SV is just that... Crying.

Serious question, why is it any different the Gaston's Tavern? For people who enjoy and have a connection to the Simpsons (and there are a lot of them) getting to go to a re-creation of Moe's tavern is just as exciting as a BatB fan getting to go to Gaston's Tavern.

For me personally, I have zero emotional connection to the Simpsons (I don't even think its funny, I honestly think they started mailing it in like a decade ago) while batb is engrained in my childhood. Do people really have a strong emotional attachment to the Simpsons? I just think it's a very odd choice for a theme park land.

I sincerely hope you're not a travel agent, because comparing crime while traveling in Quintana Roo as compared to NY or Chicago is just as reckless....clearly you haven't been to that part of Mexico....yes, the hotel zone is 'safer' than cancan city. However, we were attacked in the hotel zone and the police only got involved when I offered a large bribe...and it was half hearted involvement. NYs finest doesn't require a down payment to get involved after an assault and robbery!!

I've been to QR many, many times. And 3 months ago I drove through (not even by, but through) a running gun battle a few blocks west of the United Center (where the Bulls and Blackhawks play) in Chicago. I'm not exactly talking from twixt the buttcheeks here.

Frankly, I think you sound a little knocked-kneed. To each their own.

Yes, they do. I understand it's not something you have an attachment to, but there are a lot of people who do. Simpsons is a huge part of popular culture, arguably more so then even BatB, which makes it a great fit for use in a theme park.

Exactly. I grew up with the Simpsons. It's always been part of my life. I'd rather see Springfield than Be Our Guest.

Beauty and the Beast will always have a special place in my heart. It is the first Disney animated movie I ever watched, and it is my favourite Disney animated musical of all time. But I also have been a fan of The Simpsons since I was a kid, and I am extremely excited about entering a heavily-themed mini Springfield land. I don't even drink alcohol, and I can't wait to step inside Moe's. Also, my little sister (11 years old) loves the Simpsons and is just as excited about this mini-land as I am. True, the show is a comedy and a satire, but that does not mean viewers do not have an emotional attachment to the show. Hell, I even shed a tear while watching a certain scene in the movie.

I have absolutely no emotional attachment whatsoever to either the Simpsons or Beauty and the Beast (or any Disney animated feature, for that matter...)

Doesn't matter.
A well done land is a well done land. Emotion need not factor into it.
Exactly. I think Disney relies far too much on existing emotional connections instead of creating a strong experience that stands on its own. Too much of the Walt Disney World experience is about the vicarious enjoyment Disneyland was specifically seeking to avoid.

I agree, but if Disney (TDO) cared about you as a marketer over some Mommy blog, they wouldn't of moved F+B discounts to TIW card which costs you more to get an initial discount. They also would of given you a consistent discount against all merchandise location over the last decade ... unlike other resorts, Disney or otherwise.

I presume when you go to parks you (at least) used to buy merch and buy food and drink...
My point was that continuing to increase the cost of the AP and cut offerings is going to result in less usage. I can certainly anticipate in the coming years not getting a Disney World AP and getting a Disneyland seasonal AP, or heaven forbid, only length of stay passes.

Yes, I buy merchandise, but even that's been homogenized to a point where much of it is less desireable (he says wearing a very subtle Disney World zip up sweatshirt).

See @RSoxNo1, I'm not arguing with you, I'm agreeing with you - maybe TDO thinks that if they use the APers as the people who they want to spread the 'good' word - average non connected guest wouldn't think it was all that MAGICal. The good thing is the average guest spend is higher at UO so heres hoping.

That name change starting to make sense now?;)

No matter how many times you tell folks (and hope and pray to Tinker Bell that you'll be wrong), they continue to disappoint.

I don't know what else to say. And poor Tom 'Amity' Corless actually wanted an invite to this? Well, the free flights and hotels and booze and food and two minute interviews and swag are impressive, no doubt.

But really ... not even a piece of new art for the alleged Avatar project (which is now 2017 or 2018 at the earliest ... if it gets done) ... no announcement of MK's first new parade since 2001 ... nothing on the shows for the Studios (or maybe they decided that having Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid attractions in two parks is a great way to keep the product fresh and relevant).

Oh come on! Didn't a nebulous photo of Jimmy hanging out with his WDI pals looking at what I have to assume is a big grass field get you excited!?

To cut cut cut cut cut cut cut is what we really like to do
It's a great trick to get rich quick
If you cut cut cut with a shovel or a pick
In a office! In a office! In a office! In a office!
Where a million Bonus's shine!

We cut cut cut cut cut cut cut from early morn till night
We cut cut cut cut cut cut cut up everything in sight
We cut attractions by the score
A thousand effects, sometimes more
But we know exactly why we cut 'em for
We cut cut cut a-cut cut
