What's Next For DHS And AK??

I still think that they should break DHS up into "lands" based on movie genres or movie studios.

The problem is...I feel that Pixar could use it's own park. Building a 5th gate based solely on Pixar and moving attractions would open up a lot of real estate in the current parks.

Entrance Land:
The entrance land could be themed to all of the Pixar Shorts (these are before the main attractions...so this would be a good "starter" theme. Imagine the Streetmosphere with One-Man Bands, A Magician (with Rabbit), the Tin Toy character, a little park with chess boards, the birds sitting on the telephone wires, etc.

Cars:
-Put in Carsland direct from DCA. It's perfect as is. As long as you have the characters driving up and down the street...it's perfect.

Monster World:
Monsters, Inc:
- Walk around characters
- Interactive Buildings
--- Monster Kids Jump-Tonguing on the sidewalk.
--- Monsters in the windows and doorways that talk with you (RFID)
- Door Rollercoaster
- Laugh Factory gets moved here.
- Updated DCA ride.

Oversized Area:
Toy Story:
- Giant Backyard Setup
- Tokyo Mini-land
- Move Midway Mania here.
- New Buzz Lightyear Dark Ride
- Barbie's Dreamhouse Walk-Through/Play area

A Bug's Land:
- Bug's Life Mini-land from DCA
- Bug themed circus show.
- Water Play area/playground.

Jungle Area:
Incredibles:
- 3D Adventure Ride (similar to Spider-Man)
- Action Show with special effects showing off the superheroes' powers.
- Superhero Training area where kids could volunteer and through special glasses and green screen technology, the audience would see the kids doing spectacular things.

Up:
- Giant Balloon House Ride (similar to Characters in Flight but themed to Up)
- Plane ride where you have a "dog-fight"
- Flume attraction through the jungles of South America and Dug and Kevin run along the riverside as you chase the escaping floating house with Carl in it.

French Area:
Ratatouille:
- French Ratatouille themed restaurant (where the special is always ratatouille)
--- Animatronic rats come to your table and interact with you. On the walls, you'll see the rats come out and do comical things throughout your meal.
- Dark ride through a giant kitchen with perils around every turn. (Has coaster elements...like 7DMT but on a lot larger scale.)

Future Area:
Wall*E:
- Land looks like it's been trashed by BnL but have slight plant growth spurting up.
- Walk around Wall*E animatronic...and can interact with a flying "EVE" at night.
- Dark Ride based on planet conservation showing the robots doing things that we should be doing now.
- A Hands-on game/play area with recycling in mind.
- Space Cruise Ship with food courts, water play areas, and stores.

Undersea Area:
Finding Nemo:
- Themed to Sydney, Australia...and as you enter the land, you walk under the ocean and the entire land looks like coral.
- Kim Possible style game to find Nemo somewhere throughout the land (he will move constantly)
- Move Finding Nemo: The Musical here.
- Fish Are Friends Not Food Restaurant (themed to the sharks and their "meetings")
- Kiddie Dark Ride coaster that starts out in the Dentist's Office aquarium...and you have to get to the drain (water coaster element)...and the finale where you help the fish from the fishermen.
- Rapids Ride where you ride on giant turtle shells and have it themed to the East Australian Current.

You want a Harry Potter killer...this is how you do it. Most of the lands could be expandable with new movies that could fit into the more generic themed lands.
It'll never happen ... BUT those are excellent ideas! Really well thought out and I'm sure a park like that would be super successful (and feasible had the current parks not already been flooded by Pixar-based attractions). Have you sent in a resume to Imagineering yet? :)

Monster World:
Monsters, Inc:
- Walk around characters
- Interactive Buildings
--- Monster Kids Jump-Tonguing on the sidewalk. Good idea on paper, bad idea in general. Lawsuits.
--- Monsters in the windows and doorways that talk with you (RFID)
- Door Rollercoaster
- Laugh Factory gets moved here. Wouldn't happen imo
- Updated DCA ride. Too similar if they put in the roller coaster.

Oversized Area:
Toy Story:
- Giant Backyard Setup They'd really have to redo how PP is setup for anything like this to happen. DLP has this mini-land and it's kinda... not Disney quality.
- Tokyo Mini-land
- Move Midway Mania here. It's not that simple to move rides
- New Buzz Lightyear Dark Ride Unrealistic imo. How can you do just a BL dark ride and no have it be a replica of BLSRS?
- Barbie's Dreamhouse Walk-Through/Play area Sounds cool, but that's also royalties for Mattel.

A Bug's Land:
- Bug's Life Mini-land from DCA I think HISTK Playground is going to become ABL right? No rides though unfortunately.
- Bug themed circus show. Too much like ITTBAB.
- Water Play area/playground. This should be in HISTK Playground

Jungle Area:
Incredibles:
- 3D Adventure Ride (similar to Spider-Man) They did have an Incredibles Kuka ride in blue sky before for DCA, right?
- Action Show with special effects showing off the superheroes' powers. Too unrealistic imo.
- Superhero Training area where kids could volunteer and through special glasses and green screen technology, the audience would see the kids doing spectacular things. Seems realistic enough. Good idea. But more like KP @ Epcot

Up:
- Giant Balloon House Ride (similar to Characters in Flight but themed to Up) Good idea, but it might look too cheap with painted balloons on. And it wouldn't be a ride because you'd probably have to pay for it.
- Plane ride where you have a "dog-fight" Seems like too small of a scene to have its own simulator attraction imo
- Flume attraction through the jungles of South America and Dug and Kevin run along the riverside as you chase the escaping floating house with Carl in it. Now this is what an Up attraction would be IF there was an Up attraction ever to be built. However, never in DHS. It just doesn't fit with DHS.

French Area:
Ratatouille:
- French Ratatouille themed restaurant (where the special is always ratatouille) This would fit better as an overlay t Chefs de France
--- Animatronic rats come to your table and interact with you. On the walls, you'll see the rats come out and do comical things throughout your meal. Like Chefs de France?
- Dark ride through a giant kitchen with perils around every turn. (Has coaster elements...like 7DMT but on a lot larger scale.) If anything, they'd put in the WDS Ratatouille ride clone here. No complaints if that happens from me.

Future Area:
Wall*E:
- Land looks like it's been trashed by BnL but have slight plant growth spurting up. So much land you got planned lol! Where they building this?
- Walk around Wall*E animatronic...and can interact with a flying "EVE" at night. Like a projector EVE?
- Dark Ride based on planet conservation showing the robots doing things that we should be doing now. Circle of Life theater in Epcot.
- A Hands-on game/play area with recycling in mind. Too Epcot-y
- Space Cruise Ship with food courts, water play areas, and stores. I don't think any food place will want to be associated with the BnL cruise liner.

Undersea Area:
Finding Nemo:
- Themed to Sydney, Australia...and as you enter the land, you walk under the ocean and the entire land looks like coral. Too much like TSwNaF
- Kim Possible style game to find Nemo somewhere throughout the land (he will move constantly) Good idea
- Move Finding Nemo: The Musical here. Eh, DAK needs attractions. DHs already has many shows.
- Fish Are Friends Not Food Restaurant (themed to the sharks and their "meetings") I'm thinking more of a Turtle Hangout CS lol
- Kiddie Dark Ride coaster that starts out in the Dentist's Office aquarium...and you have to get to the drain (water coaster element)...and the finale where you help the fish from the fishermen. Meh, just put in Crush's Coaster from WDS. Looks like a great ride.
- Rapids Ride where you ride on giant turtle shells and have it themed to the East Australian Current. But you'd be above water? Wouldn't work imo

You want a Harry Potter killer...this is how you do it. Most of the lands could be expandable with new movies that could fit into the more generic themed lands.

Harry Potter killer themed to Pixar? The Up ride from the list above. I honestly don't see the Potter killer being anywhere in DHS or Epcot. I see it in DAK.

Sadly they had 4 of them ready to go...

The 4 were in response to Islands if Adventure opening if I remember correctly. When attendance didn't sink at the Disney Parks (it grew) the plans were shelved.

I've never heard mention of a real "Potter Swatter" plan. I believe that is mostly due to the fact that Potter is the biggest things going right now and Disney doesn't have a modern franchise that can compete toe to toe.

Is that right?

OH, you know, Cars and Pirates couldn't be considers billion dollar franchises. :ROFLOL:

I see what you're getting at though, nothing that doesn't already have something in development / already built.

I feel that at DHS it would be a great idea on Disney's part to expand Pixar studios. Don't get me wrong, I love toy story, but all of Pixar studios is based on Toy Story. You might as well call it "Toy Story Land". Disney has plenty of successful pixar movies, and I think they should be put to use. I think it would really boost up Disney's attendance.

To the original poster - D23 was not a waste at all. I had an absolute blast, and I spent half the time working. Sure, the Parks and Resorts presentation was a disappointment in that there were no new announcements, but there was quite a bit to like about actually being there.

What happens is that people that didn't go to the Expo look at the take away's from the Parks and Resorts presentation as the only story coming out of the Expo. Of the people I spoke with at the Expo, they all seemed to be having a great time. Admittedly, we were all disappointed that there wasn't a definitive announcement at that Parks and Resorts presentation, but there was enough going on that weekend to make up for it to those in attendance.

One thing that was really only hinted at during the presentation was some new experiences that seemed to be in the early stages of development:
  • Dining in the Haunted Mansion with an Imagineer
  • Having a private tea party with your two favorite princesses
  • Being able to re-live an extinct attraction
The first two items on the list seem easy enough: have cash, will pay, Disney will accommodate. The last item seems to be very intriguing. From my perspective this seems like a great way to revitalize Innoventions in both Disneyland and Epcot as some sort of virtual reality experience. There were no details on any of these, but that was my first thought.

Are you planning on completely changing the setting and backstory of Dinoland? Why do you need time travel to see actual dinosaurs if they're roaming the mountains outside?

That's EXACTLY what I would do. Kids love dinos and the only way to see a "real" dino at DAK is to get the _____ scared out of you on Dinosaur. I think it's the scariest ride at WDW. My kids play in the Boneyard, they ride Triceratops Spin, we walk the Cretaceous Trail, but do I think they get what should be the real "Dinoland experience"? No.

Keep half of the land in the present. You can have attractions like the Excavator here and you can even keep Dino-Rama and the Bone Yard if you're so inclined. Then have something like this from the 2009 D23 Expo as the entrance to the half of the land set 75 MYA. Yes, it would cause crowd control problems similar to Tom Sawyer Island, but I think it's the only way that makes sense to have multiple attractions with "real" dinos. Better than "here's the jeep ride that sends you back in time, and here's the boat ride that sends you back in time, and here's the flying ride that sends you back in time". Slight storyline change to Dinosaur, build the Jungle Cruise ride vehicle dinosaur ride from the Imagineering Field Guide and now you've got yourself a land!

There is a real threat that Islands of Adventure could surpass AK or Studios in annual attendance in the next few years. I Pray that this happens, because sadly this could be the only thing that lights a fire under the suits.
I second this. There's always a chance this could happen, especially since Universal wishes to expand within the next 3 years. With Pottermore keeping the classic franchise very much alive, I think the popularity for it will still be strong.

Maybe that's the Virtual Toad ride we've heard about. I say they should just rebuild Horizons :)

Australia really needs to happen in AK.

No way. You can get that at a Busch Gardens. I want the Mysterious Island/ Beastly Kingdom hybrid for AK.

My preference would be to see Australia added to Epcot. I have to agree with that a Mysterious Island would be an incredible addition to AK (assuming that it would include 20K Leagues and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Further, if AK was to get another land based on a continent or area, I'd like to see the Amazon Rainforest. Seems like it would have more to offer than Australia.

Busch Gardens isn't Disney. Australia needs to be incorporated into the parks somehow (epcot or dak).

Why is Australia so important? I don't see what Disney would bring that was any different than what they've done with Africa and Asia in AK. What's the big deal? I don't see what's so special to devote another land to it, no offense to any Australians here, but they could easily accomplish that on a small scale at some other time. I'd much rather see WDI flex their imaginations and bring something mythical to the park.
