What's Next For DHS And AK??

Great topic everyone...I think to start off both parks need more family rides, I think many of us are getting obssed with Harry and what Universal has done. I understand that they are taking into Disney's bottom line that does not mean Disney needs to change who they are and just add thrill ride after thrill ride that only a portion of people coming to the parks might want to ride. WDW is a family theme park and that will never change. As for some changes ...I think DHS needs to do something with Sounds Dandgerous and Narnia, add the Monsters Inc Coaster, I like the idea for the up ride previously mentioned and rework the backot area for a cars area. It would be nice to add another Star Wars attraction, maybe even a Star Wars Cantina resturant. Indiana Jones should be turned into a ride, the show is great but for the amount of space it takes up for the number of shows they do it does not make sense.

As for AK, again more family rides are needed. I like the idea of Australia being added but would like it even better if we had BK created.

I think Epcot could use some love as well. I think change will be coming but we are going to need to be patient.

I'd just like to see them build an Indy Speedway kinda thing for CARS in the Backlot and going around LMA. Theme it and tie it together with building backdrops based on the locals from CARS 2.

"CARS 2: Race Around The World"

By doing this they'd go somewhat cheap on the Cars attraction (why compete with CA?), kids would love it, and they could give some thought to getting rid of the Indy Speedway at MK - freeing up the land in TL for something more appropriate. I'd rather see them use the money at DHS for something unique (like an Incredibles attraction or MI coaster).

Unless you can build all of CarsLand, I see no reason to spend that much money to copy the attraction.

So, a modified version of existing technology (Test Track) will take down a revolutionary technology (Potter)? :lookaroun

I would honestly rather get something NEW and UNIQUE over here...like SWSD coaster is going to be proprietary to WDW only...hopefully.

I guess you don't read much because the ride system and technology of radiator springs racers is entirely different then TT. In fact WDI said the racers only use about 20% of TT technology. It's an entirely new ride system. And it's going to blow people away! So yes this could easily counter potter.

I know it'll never happen, and this has probably been discussed prior, but I can't help but think Disney is diluting what DHS should be about. Isn't there any way we can make this a working studio again? Or at least do some type of movie here every once in a while? Or have a satellite branch of Pixar studios? I'd even settle for something where they show you mock-ups and how they create computer animated figures--similar to how the animation tour previously was. I just feel Disney is losing it's edge. I think all of the cutesy rides and all are great at the studios, but I miss the education aspect. Show me how films are made, teach me about animation. It's the same really that's happening to epcot. I loved it in the 80's. And honestly I love some of the updates now. Test track is fun, but still satisfies because it shows me how car manufacture works--great! The same is true of mission:space and education. However, and yes I know it's been discussed, but the seas and it's theme does not go in epcot! I would have worked in pixar place, but it's unfortunately there for a looooonnng time now. Ugh. And when I heard the rumor about test track being replaced with cars?! I about flipped. Don't do it Disney! You might as well put Buzz Lightyear into mission:space (but seriously, don't). And to end my rant, I guess I fear for animal kingdom. Ok, so let's say that a few years down AK starts getting a sufficient amount of rides. Then it transitions into, well hey, we aren't going to maintain Kilimanjaro because it's a little expensive to run the trucks and upkeep the animals. The guests will never miss it. And then it transitions into they take the animals out of animals kingdom altogether. I don't know, maybe it's a crazy thought, but I guess I'm just saying that I hope Disney stays increasingly true to it's visions that were laid out when first initiating and opening a project. Evolve ideas, don't change then completely! That's all :animwink:

Lol, no need to get upset...wasn't calling you out. I'm pretty hooked on phonics so no worries. :ROFLOL:

I found my info here:

I just personally think that Universal has done a better job enhancing existing technology...i.e. Spider-Man taken to the next level is Harry Potter.

If Disney proves me wrong, I'll gladly serve myself a big slice of Humble Pie while you watch me eat it.

Are you planning on completely changing the setting and backstory of Dinoland? Why do you need time travel to see actual dinosaurs if they're roaming the mountains outside?

I won't be surprised if that whole concept gets changed when they release the Unamed Pixar Film about Dinosaurs...When It was announced at the Studios Panel I already can tell they got an area at AK that's perfectly Deadlocked with it...But, this is still at least for the 2013-ish area..

Just my .02

Cars is by far more economically successful than any Pixar movie other than Toy Story. The merchandising for Cars far surpasses either Nemo or Up.

Nothing that WDW can build will rival Potter, the nature of the story ensures that. WDW can build something very successful but draining serious numbers away from Potter is not going to happen IMO. A Cars "land" would be very popular indeed and would draw very well IMO, but not Potter well. Maybe a Star Wars "land" would give it a run for it's money

Sorry, there is already a clone planned for Disneyland Shanghai.

Narnia: Take Out!! NO need to have this movie is 3 years old. waste of space.
SD:One of the worst rides at WDW.

That are not really important criterias. That a movie is THREE years old doesn't mean anything in parks where decades old movies are part of the movies.
And the waste of space? There is plenty of space in DHS and the space used by Narnia is very small, you couldn't place any real attraction here only shops or dining. As long as there is no better idea for that building leave it as it is and use the money instead for better and larger improvements.
Narnia is quite boring but it hurts no one, doesn't spoil a place like the crap carpets or uses up precious space.

I Pray that this happens, because sadly this could be the only thing that lights a fire under the suits. Out of all the attractions the most probable to be built would be radiator springs racers. Cars is without a doubt the most successful pixar movie behind toy story, so this has a good chance of happening in my mind if Universals numbers are still shattering records this time next year.

Lets all pray it happens! If IOA would have been a success withou Potter already from the beginning we would possibly have got Fire Mountain and other major additions years ago.
But IOAs opening had no impact on Disney visitor count so all ideas were shelved.

Pioneering the Universe Within!
Yes, thanks to the merchandising, Cars is absolutely the second most profitable Disney-Pixar film. It certainly doesn't bring them the prestige, nor is it as good, as films like Up. Wall-E, and Toy Story, but it's definitely been very successful for them.

I don't think we'll see an entire Carsland in WDW, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Radiator Springs Racers got somehow folded into a Pixar Place expansion.

I still think that they should break DHS up into "lands" based on movie genres or movie studios.

The problem is...I feel that Pixar could use it's own park. Building a 5th gate based solely on Pixar and moving attractions would open up a lot of real estate in the current parks.

Entrance Land:
The entrance land could be themed to all of the Pixar Shorts (these are before the main attractions...so this would be a good "starter" theme. Imagine the Streetmosphere with One-Man Bands, A Magician (with Rabbit), the Tin Toy character, a little park with chess boards, the birds sitting on the telephone wires, etc.

Cars:
-Put in Carsland direct from DCA. It's perfect as is. As long as you have the characters driving up and down the street...it's perfect.

Monster World:
Monsters, Inc:
- Walk around characters
- Interactive Buildings
--- Monster Kids Jump-Tonguing on the sidewalk.
--- Monsters in the windows and doorways that talk with you (RFID)
- Door Rollercoaster
- Laugh Factory gets moved here.
- Updated DCA ride.

Oversized Area:
Toy Story:
- Giant Backyard Setup
- Tokyo Mini-land
- Move Midway Mania here.
- New Buzz Lightyear Dark Ride
- Barbie's Dreamhouse Walk-Through/Play area

A Bug's Land:
- Bug's Life Mini-land from DCA
- Bug themed circus show.
- Water Play area/playground.

Jungle Area:
Incredibles:
- 3D Adventure Ride (similar to Spider-Man)
- Action Show with special effects showing off the superheroes' powers.
- Superhero Training area where kids could volunteer and through special glasses and green screen technology, the audience would see the kids doing spectacular things.

Up:
- Giant Balloon House Ride (similar to Characters in Flight but themed to Up)
- Plane ride where you have a "dog-fight"
- Flume attraction through the jungles of South America and Dug and Kevin run along the riverside as you chase the escaping floating house with Carl in it.

French Area:
Ratatouille:
- French Ratatouille themed restaurant (where the special is always ratatouille)
--- Animatronic rats come to your table and interact with you. On the walls, you'll see the rats come out and do comical things throughout your meal.
- Dark ride through a giant kitchen with perils around every turn. (Has coaster elements...like 7DMT but on a lot larger scale.)

Future Area:
Wall*E:
- Land looks like it's been trashed by BnL but have slight plant growth spurting up.
- Walk around Wall*E animatronic...and can interact with a flying "EVE" at night.
- Dark Ride based on planet conservation showing the robots doing things that we should be doing now.
- A Hands-on game/play area with recycling in mind.
- Space Cruise Ship with food courts, water play areas, and stores.

Undersea Area:
Finding Nemo:
- Themed to Sydney, Australia...and as you enter the land, you walk under the ocean and the entire land looks like coral.
- Kim Possible style game to find Nemo somewhere throughout the land (he will move constantly)
- Move Finding Nemo: The Musical here.
- Fish Are Friends Not Food Restaurant (themed to the sharks and their "meetings")
- Kiddie Dark Ride coaster that starts out in the Dentist's Office aquarium...and you have to get to the drain (water coaster element)...and the finale where you help the fish from the fishermen.
- Rapids Ride where you ride on giant turtle shells and have it themed to the East Australian Current.

You want a Harry Potter killer...this is how you do it. Most of the lands could be expandable with new movies that could fit into the more generic themed lands.

Since the backlot is a joke in its current form I wouldn't object to demolishing it, but if they were to bring Carsland to DHS, wouldn't that be car overload with LMA  Maybe they could get rid of that too while they're at it :D I like cars but it's so :snore:
And of course Sound Dangerous and Narnia must go. SD should be gutted and changed to something that has to do with Star Wars or Indy IMO. The Narnia area could be a place to promote every new movie of theirs, kind of like now just changed far more frequently. Or maybe a restaurant? Toy Story? Not sure if the building is big enough though.
Actually, they could revamp the whole Animation Courtyard area. Maybe take it back in time and give it a look similar to Hollywood and Sunset Blvd., but make it the Walt Disney Studios area, then flow into Pixar Place and have that completely take over the backlot.

As for AK, it needs another land. South America? I would prefer that over Australia personally. All I can think of for it at the moment is a boat ride of some kind. There was one Imaginations project for a Adventureland mountain, sorry don't remember what it was called, but something like that would be nice. That was just an amazing project anyway, I'd love to see it built.
And they can throw in the Adventure's Club for good measure :sohappy:

That was Fire Mountain, a morphing rollercoaster where you ride through an active volcano on some island in the South Sea.

Sadly so do I. What I hope happens is they start seeing total vacation package purchasers decreasing their park tickets.. IE: Staying 10 days on property, but only buying 5 day park hoppers. That might give them a good indication that guests are no longer staying completely in the "World" and are possibly venturing off to other parks not in the "World"

Personally, I think they should replace Sounds Dangerous with "The Naptime Spectacular" sponsored by LazyBoy. It would consist of Nap Pods similar to those in Japan for quick 1 hour recharges.

I've thought this same thing. But, with only $8 separating each day on your hopper at that point, Disney is probably happy to take your extended hotel dollars and run.

Both Up and Incredibles also outperformed Cars at the domestic and global box office. Either or both could be the basis for great attractions.

I think they push Cars, not because it was the top performer, but because they have a crazy need to "balance" out the princesses with Cars and pirates. I really felt like they it was the only "boy" thing they had, so they pushed it a lot harder.

Disney selects the subject matter for attractions based on how well that property will drive merchandise sales, not on how good an attraction it would make.

Pirates, Star Wars, and Cars all lend themselves nicely to merch, thus the push.

While those do lend themselves to merchandise, I have to disagree with the generalization of your statement. I do believe that sometimes it is used as a variable, but not the sole criteria. Have you ever bought a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad t-shirt? If you want a more current example, how about RnR? While I have seen merchandise, I can't believe that it drove Disney to greenlight the project.

Additionally, Pirates has seemingly always had merchandise, but this past week it seemed very in your face.

Park ideas

Don't forget, it is not just about box office success with Pixar films. Cars has more merch potential and having attractions that keep chararters top of mind sells merch. It is never about the movie. Remember, all rides exit through the gift shop.
