What to say to Disney World bashers?

Like many of you, I have run into people I work with that cannot comprehend why I would travel to Orlando. Obviously part of it is Disney World alone but I tell them there is so much to do in this area.

But for Disney alone what comments do you get towards you about it? Criticisms I mean. And how do you respond to it?

My favourite is asking if the person has ever been to Disney? The answer is almost always no. End of story. And then they usually shut up about the "kids theme park"

Hahha, I've got a lot of people who can't understand why we go to Disney year after year (including my boyfriend, I really need to spend more time converting him).. mostly I just say that it's a great place for family, there's always something to do.. and, generally, it brings us 'great joy'.

Can't beat a family vaca to Disney, IMO.

It's kind of rude of them to bash your likes but I would just say that they can like what they want and you can like what you want.

You're right, though...it is not just a kid park...it is so much more.

Yeah, we get the why are you going there again? Havent you seen everything? Why dont you do something different? Usually from people that have never been there so dont have the magic in them........

You have to look at it both ways. There are many people that hate WDW. There are many things to do, but when you add the cost of a trip up, there is a lot more that can be done with the money as well. WDW is also no where near a thrill theme park. Some people enjoy thrill rides when they go to a park. Busch Gardens, Cedar Point, Universal, and countless others blow the doors off WDW in this respect. Heck, my State Fair has rides that have more thrills than everything at WDW sans RnRC.

When I am confronted with the situation, I just let it go and tell them that it is what me and my family enjoy. Maybe they like to go to Daytona Bike Week. In many instances, many of us do not enjoy that.

I don't really get people that bash me so to speak, but I do have friends that kind of poke fun at me for going to WDW so often. I don't say much, or defend myself. I just smile, and say "yep, I do go a lot. I love it there." I feel lucky that I have a place I love so much, and I don't feel like there's any way to really explain it to someone who isn't going to get it. And it's okay if they don't get it. :)

I've had to stand up for my Disney lovin' a few times. I tell them that we all have our passions...and Disney happens to be one of mine. No one has the right to tell you that what you enjoy is dumb or stupid. If you have something that you really enjoy, then that's awesome. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I always tell folks that it is the only vacation spot that is consistently great for me. All of our trips have always been perfect and that makes it worth every penny to me.

These are usually the same people who try to cram Disney in a day when spending a week in Florida. I just smile and think to myself " To each their own ".

I get the usual, "It's a kid park" but most of my friends, when I mention it, they scream "OMG I LOVE DISNEY WORLD!" and one of my friends who didn't really like it, went again for Christmas, and she absolutely loved it. She said "I don't think it's possible for someone to go and not want to go back again!"

But when someone says it's a kid park, I say "Well duh! we are kids!" because we're like 16-17 yrs old haha=]

But usually people who say it's a kids park, haven't gone, or only went when they were younger and barely remember anything haha.

I have given up on explaining it. But some people I know love it just as much as i do so we love to talk about it whenever we are together.
