"Besides what scene from The Godfather, for example, would go in that space anyway?"

I could think of a few:

1) When Vito Corleone is gunned down at the fruit stand
2) When Sonny is killed at the toll booth

Those are probably the 2 most memorable moments in the movie and could be done.

I was thinking that they could be indoor scenes from the movies, but hidden behind a scrim and light up when its time for the scene to start. For Godfather, it could simply be one of the scenes with Don Corleone is talking with people in his office.

I'd also like to see this done with a scene from Goodfellas, perhaps the "How am I funny?" scene.

Someone else suggested Pulp Fiction, that would be great too.

Howdy,

I think I'm that guy. I am most definitely NOT advocating inclusion/replacement of Mickey et al in TGMR.

I love TGMR and that it is an introduction to so many Hollywood classics for my kids. When we got home my daughter recognized the DVD of Casablanca from TGMR. I just think that the Alien sequence is a little over the top frightening for the marquee ride of the park.

My answer to the guy who said that they should replace Alien with something else cause its frightening to kids...

DON'T. NEVER. EVER.

If that happens, GMR will go to hell. Just look at Alien Encounter. Look at Epcot Center. Look at the best rides that Disney created. Why did they get renovated/replaced/Disney characterized/touchscreen'd? Because it was too boring and frightening for kids.

Take the Living Seas for example. It was educational and interesting. It featured nice exhibits and real life fish. It teached us something.

But, gosh, who cares, cartoon fish are awesome, aren't they? And it makes kids happy, so, who cares?

Kids get scared during the Oz scene when the Witch arrives (I worked at GMR for over a year. Trust me, they do.). Should they get rid of that scene too? Some kids don't like loud noises. Should Disney stop selling balloons because they might pop, creating a loud noise? Not all kids will be tall enough to ride Space/Splash/Big Thunder. Should they close those rides because they might scare the kids who are tall enough to ride?

Star Wars would fit that part of the ride and IMO is more timeless than Alien.

eh, star ways is boring to me, and the newest ones are HORRIBLE
i think, and i know everyone will disagree, that the indiana jones part should be replaced with a national treasure part, or the indiana jones show should turn into a national treasure show.

and as an aside, is the american idol thing like a flop, cause it looks kinda dumb, and not in a good way.

lololol, the only reason i say the 2nd part is because i'd like to see some national treasure in disney, eventhough indiana jones is amongst the greats, so i'm not against it, i just want national treasure somewhere, and they better have prince of persia somewhere if it's popular, cause that's also gonna be released directly under disney.

I say get rid of the places the CM half heartedly does their bit through the ride. Monotone voice: this is a perfect job for me because I love movies.

The "Alien" sequence is the best part of the ride.
I would only approve of its removal if it was to make way for their finally building the full "Alien" themed "Nostromo" attraction the imagineers cooked up back in the '80s.

To answer the question, the only thing that needs replacing is the "By a Waterfall" area at the beginning, simply because it's already effectively ruined.

I might ditch the "Fantasia" bit too since it serves no real purpose and is just a screen in the wall. May as well re-theme it to be the Oz tornado like it was meant to be in the first place.

They DO, however, need to fix Ripley's hair and stance. Both are much too straight. And turn the pilot light on her flamethrower back on.

Wouldn't hurt to unzip a bit more of her jumpsuit either... :o

You would need a lot of explosives and you would have to have lots of flashing lights to imitate his editing style.:animwink:

You could also have John Turturro in a thong and the robot twins. Now THAT would scare kids and adults more than Alien.

This is the first change I would make as well (that or better AAs. It's a tough call). Maybe a whole new script? The attraction is great when you get a CM who is really in to it and performs their role well (and maybe improvises a little bit :lookaroun). If you get someone who is not so great, it can just feel awkward. The CM really makes or breaks GMR, so it's surprising to me they don't have more extensive training or aren't more stingy with GMR assignments. It's clearly not something that just anybody can do.

Aside from that, Gone With the Wind, a Lord of the Rings scene (I agree a whole land/park would be needed to really to the franchise justice, but I could make my peace with a scene in GMR. The only question is, which one? I think either a scene from Moria, so you have the whole Fellowship, or Frodo and Sam climbing Mt. Doom), and a refurbished/expanded Casablanca scene. I like that for the most part, GMR focuses on classic, industry-defining movies that had an impact on the nation. I think all the present scenes (to varying degrees) fulfill those criteria, and I think Gone With the Wind and Lord of the Rings do as well. With its literary history, I don't think it's too soon to refer to LOTR as a classic.
