What scenes in GMR should be kept?

Hell, the ride. With a trackless system. And multiple ways to go through the ride track. Do one room before you do another but in a different order every time. It would work perfectly with you visiting different "topics" like in the original.

Wow.:lookaroun:lol::zipit:

That wouldn't work!!!! It's cost too much money! :hammer:

IMO, Keep it all. the only areas that could be replaced are the Alien scene with a more modern sci fi horror film, Replace Tarzan with a quick scene of Narnia, maybe drive through the forest of snow, and have something off to the right side with the four children looking off into a panoramic view of Narnia with the White Witches castle in the distance. Otherwise, I would just update the western scene, because it looks too much like a "sleepy little burgh" than it does an exciting wild west movie. I also agree with other posts about bringing foot light parade up to it's glory with some better lighting or something. right now it looks so washed out.k

I think this would make for a good update. finally, I would clean up the queue a bit, maybe add more display cases to make waiting more interesting, and also to bring some of those costumes and artifacts from movies old out of storage.

what would be really amazing is to make the theater in the queue to be decorated like more turn of the century theaters with the extremely ornate prosceniums and wonderful effects from theaters of the bygone era. much like the Tampa Movie Theater.

ok, did i say enough?

Star Wars scene def! and Jurassic Park ... if available

^ Why not? Don't you realize how Jurassic Parks' dialogue can put A Streetcar Named Desire to shame or how it's special effects will never age? It's a timeless masterpiece as great as Citizen Kane!

Not.

These threads are always fun. Can't wait for someone to suggest something by Micheal Bay or 300 should be put in.

While I disagree on JP as compared to Citizen Kane, I fully agree on your last statement. We don't need anything new age.

Gut the whole ride out....

Get rid of Alien...That is the only film or scene that is NOT timeless...

Alien is a timeless film to so many people, it's one of the only good sci-fi movies that has atmosphere and is dark. personally it is one of two good sci-fi movies i can take seriously, the other is Contact, and 2001 is just too long, but the book's good.

most sci-fi follows the same storyline "go to deserted planet, ah there's an evil alien, let's blow it to a million pieces, omg we just lost our whole team except two characters, but wait, somehow they have a giant weapon to blow up the planet or something." yes, i essentially described the 2nd aliens movie, which was stupid compared to the first.

yeah, the tarzan thing can go i suppose.

what do they have rights to now since it's now Hollywood Studios and not MGM, are there any extra companies they took over or still just MGM, cause i know they bought out Marvel.

again, Aliens should stay, after all, what sci-fi movie has come out to surpass it?
and no, anything but Narnia, the book was good, but all they did was say "oh, LOTR came out, Lewis worked with Tokein, let's make a movie on his story, abuse special affects, and at the end say 'guys just name the characters after the book, it's cool, nobody actually reads books to tell the difference'"

Not.

I like Jurassic Park. That wasn't my point. They're suggesting the inclusion of a Universal film, which already has an entire section of a competing park themed after it.

Hi all,

I could see the Alien scene being replaced. It is way too frightening for kids. I desperately wanted to take my daughter on this ride mainly for the Oz scene which is AMAZING. She had to suffer my sweaty hand over her eyes and my insistence that she put her fingers in her ears when we went through the Alien bit. Oh, she was six at the time. In terms of fright level it jumps out compared to the rest of the ride. My wife used to take groups of developmentally challenged people on tours of WDW and they also had problems w/Alien.

I'd like to see the non-classic Disney/Touchstone/whatever films removed from the montage at the end (Sister Act? Three Men and a Baby? seriously?).

My fear is that when this ride does get rehabbed it will be ruined. They will turn it into a marketing piece instead of a tribute to the history of the silver screen. That was the reason I brought my six year old onto the ride. I wanted her to have that wonderful Oz moment.

Someone mentioned The Lord of the Rings as deserving of its own ride. I think it would deserve its own park!

Blueboxdoctor, I have to disagree. There have been more than two serious science fiction movies made (i.e. not solely action-adventure shoot 'em ups).

Not these are well-known enough to be on TGMR, but here's a couple more off the top of my head: Solaris (both the original and the Soderburgh remake), Forbidden Planet (the progenitor of Star Trek), the George Pal version of "War of the Worlds", and the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

I see, this point also works.

And to the people suggesting Alien should go, can you name a more respected and popular sci-fi/horror movie to replace it? If anything were to replace it I'd want Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) or Fantastic Voyage or the like, but Alien serves it's purpose fine.

And Star Trek has no business in the GMR.

Star Wars has a ride to itself elsewhere in the park that is about to get a major overhaul for 2011. It's in the end montage and even if there was a scene added you'd all complain about not enough Star Wars in a park where Storm Troopers walk around during the summer month weekends anyways.

Atsolomon, while I appreciate your Sci-fi movie mentions, Alien should not be scrapped just because little kids find it scary. It scared me too when I was little, but I loved other parts of the ride and a movie themed ride should cover all the emotions the silver screen can convey. Walt himself told D*ck Van D*ke that kids loved to be scared! And it's true.

@ atsolomon: i'm sorry, but i feel that alien will live as one of the greatest sci-fi movies. it's not supposed to be a happy part of the ride, come on, the film was disturbing. btw, contact, not a shoot em up. curious though, what are some good sci-fi films, i like sci-fi (dr. who = win) and would actually like to watch some good movies over the winter.

Star Trek and Star Wars

star wars blows, yes i said it, i am NOT a star wars fan at all.
star trek's not bad, but gets boring.

i just love the atmosphere created in the alien movie, probably because it's a british film (yes sir it is).

though i could do without the fantasia section just cause it's never actaully explored in the ride.

As far as popularity and contribution to the movie landscape, Star Wars easily out ranks Alien. I'm not complaining about Alien, but the question asked was what is a suitable replacement. Either Star Wars and Star Trek would be a suitable replacement for Alien and good representation for the Sci-Fi genre.

Btw, Indiana Jones also has an attraction right across the park, yet it is in GMR.

Edit: Oh btw 2, I think Gone with the Wind should be in there somewhere.

I said "sci-fi/horror" for a reason. Alien is both, Star Wars is not.

True, but it's not a ride, and it's not getting a major redo in 2011. Plus Indy doesn't have event weekends in the summer.
