What weird memories do you recall from your childhood at Disney?

For me it was my first trip and I was 4. We were on our way fro Fort Wilderness via ferry boat. My parents told me that Mickey Mouse was waiting for me. Well, in my 4 year old mind MM was sitting on the dock in a lawnchair waiting on only me. I knew from watching The Brave Little Tailor that when Mickey saved the day people were waving handerkerchiefs at him. As this was the obvious way to celebrate I borrowed a tissue from my Mom. So we got off the boat and there I am waving my tissue looking for MM....and I got lost (or thought i did as my parents could see me). I accidentally grabbed a strager's hand, looked up and started screaming. Then my parents walked up.:lookaroun

That is my first memory of WDW.

I also, on this trip recall my Dad pointing out BTMRR being built.

I remember my first trip, I was 6 i believe. We all got an ice cream cone and found a place to watch the parade. Well after about 2 licks, my ice cream fell off the cone on the ground. My parents wouldn't get me a new one because the parade was about to start. So I ended up watching my ice cream melt instead of the parade. I guess technically that is sad not odd, but thought I would share it.

I remember being afraid of the little drop in the pirates. I also remember being afraid that everytime I rode the peoplemover the car would jump the track and wind up on space mountain.

Whenever I would go on SSE when I was younger all I could think of while being on the ride was if the "ball" detatched from its base and rolled all over Epcot squishing the poor guests below. :lookaroun

I remembered another one as well, I was 7 years old, getting my picture taken with Minnie, and she put her arm around me, so I put mine around her to pose for a cute picture, when I did, the back of her dress got caught and lifted up for all the guests behind her to get a peek at her underpants and some girls behind us were cracking up. I felt so bad and embarassed lol. I don't even think she knew, poor Minnie.

I don't really remember this, as my first trip was at 3 yrs old. But I was a POTC fan and we had to ride it many many times over and over. My dad was walking around with me on his shoulders, and as we were passing the queue, or I could see it I got so excited that I peed all down the back of his neck. He still laughs to this day when he sees anything related to POTC.

My first trip in 1992,I was 6 years old. We were in line for BTMRR, and I could see the whole ride from the queue area. I was soooo scared, and I was just crying my eyes out because I couldn't believe my parents were putting me on this scary ride. I can remember a little girl coming up to me in line, saying "Dont be afraid, I've been on bigger and scarier rides than this one. You'll be okay." This girl was probably my age, if not a little older than me. So I looked like a big cry baby lol. I just thought that was an odd moment.

Funny enough, I opened this up to reply with a similar story. My first memory (I had to be 4? 5?) is being in the stretch room of HM, accidentally grabbing a strangers hand, and being really embarrassed

And apparently I was scared on POTC too, though I don't remember it. I don't know if it was that trip or an earlier one, but my parents still kid me about it. They say I was so scared of the pirates (and I do remember being "stuck" on the ride, although probably only for a few minutes), that my dad made me say he whole way "ha ha ha, you can't scare me!".

Been going since 1971-Was there first year I was born-I was born to be a Disney Freak.

Some great memories I have are with my Grandparents who took me and brother almost every year.

That stopped when I was around 16.Last time I went with them I was "Mackin" on a Babe in the pool and my Grandma came out screaming "Bloody Murder" that I should not be swimming less than 30 minutes after I had Dinner.:(

Also on Honeymoon I was walking next to my wife and she stopped to tie her shoe well I kept walking not knowing and was telling her " I love you Babe" to realize I was walking next to some Marine who thought I was crazy.

Well y'all make me feel old, because I have no odd memories from childhood of WDW, simply because it wasn't open yet!

I remember watching the Disneyland infomercials (they weren't called that then, of couse) on TV, and thinking how it would be great to go there someday!

As I grew up, I kinda forgot about that. But then I got to go to WDW when I was 22.

I'll tell a tale from then, even though I wasn't a child. We stayed at the Poly. I was walking down the hall of the hotel area with my (now ex) s.o., and I spontaneously broke into a Tahitian-like dance (you know, where the guys bang their knees together while the girls shake their hips) and chanting in fake polynesian ("ooo waka laka ow, laka waka laka ow" - like that). And we heard several doors open and people poking their heads out to see what was going on (maybe they thought it was like part of the theming or something), and so I immediately stopped before they saw me. They stared at us, and I said "good afternoon!", and they answered "good afternoon" and everyone went back into their rooms. As soon as all the doors were closed, I started doing it again!

I know it's not so funny now - you had to be there. We laughed the whole rest of the vacation about it and whenever we were in the hallways we both started chanting "ooo waka laka ow, laka waka laka ow"!

Its actually a DL memory but, it was along the lines of running out of "E" tickets and wondering what to do with the others. Actually, there was a checklist of the rides on the back. Yeah! I didn't make it to WDW till I paid my way at 21 but, first memory was wow, its a long walk from PO to MK! Finally a bus picked us up. Second memory was, what a great place to take a date. Next trip to WDW was my honeymoon.

Hopping in with a DL memory, since I went to Disneyland as a kid and didn't visit WDW until I was 24. But it was Christmas 1985, and my mom and aunt took me and my cousin to DL (brother was only 1.5 - he stayed home!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! sorry.) I remember queueing for PoTC and being so excited! The DL version also has the drop, but I remember there being a disembodied pirate-y skull thing on the wall with a moving jaw that say 'Ahoy mateys, rapids ahead!' or something similar, and I literally threw my head into my mother's lap and refused to look up at the rest of the ride!!

I rode it again when I was a little older, and actually *saw* the rest of the ride (and LOVED it!)... but that is definitely my first Disney memory.

Here's my story, and it is so vivid I feel like it was yesterday. I am 35 years old so that will tell you I was pretty young at the time. I was probably right about the time my Dad quit smoking so that was probably part of the deal.

I was standing with my Mom and Dad in front of If You Had Wings which was my favorite ride, and a man tossed a burning cigarette on the ground and walked away. Maybe it was part of the whole "Smokey the Bear" campaign, but I ran over to it and made a big production of putting it out with my foot, and I ran back and told my parents "I saved Disney World" to which they replied collectively, "That's nice."

:hammer:I thought they were so dumb. I was a h-e-r-o! That was 1978.
