For those slightly confused, take a close look at the picture Martin posted on Page 1 of this thread. The improvements that have been referred to regard the paths and walkways of Epcot around the entrance area and Fountain of Nations (which you can see in the pic, not that that is how it will actually look). It appears that there are plans in place and, from what Martin's saying, they appear to be fairly defintie, to redo the entrance of Epcot. As far as the water features go, the original Communicore/Innoventions area had rather large water areas. Some of us are hoping that these new plans will evoke that look once again.

Note all the water in the previous Communicore Plaza:

it's not that leave a legacy was bad idea, it's just than IMO and (a few other thousand's) it was executed poorly...

If Disney is trying to make guests believe that Epcot isn't "boring" than why.......why would anyone want an entrance...where people will get their first impression of the park be made up of dull and sterile tombstones with overgrown plants and trees, grey and fading blue paint, old 1982 mustard yellow ceilings, and brown streaks over SSE legs

amazing how the refurbished blue, whites, and silver look to the new entrance to SSE, new palm trees, etc make a brand new and clean look

perhaps we will see those color schemes creep their way into the entrance plaza.along with some palm trees that get taller and taller as they work their way toward SSE :drevil:

but when would it make sense to do this.....I guess in sept-oct....before food and wine festival? they could easily do what they did in 1999 close off one side, remodel it and then do the other.

perhaps this will coincide with them finishing SSE's descent....oh the girl in the window would be most pleased :hammer:

I wonder if they will removed that big stage at the fountain they hardly ever use too

Oh PLEASE YES! That thing is such an eyesore where its at, simply rotting away. I also wouldn't mind seeing the flagpole put back to its original place between FW and WS, maybe even put the flags of the countries in WS around it?

The whole Communicore/Millenium Central area needs a new paint job. The bright pink everywhere should be re-painted light blue to be consistent with the colors at the entrance to SSE. also they should remove the canopies and other visual clutter.

Thank God it was canceled.

There are parts of Project Gemini that I wouldn't mind. examples: general refurbishment of common FW areas, Rainforest Rollercoaster, the Hedge Maze and...(gasp)...I even kind of like the one-sided pathway arrangement around SSE. Though I love the symmetry of Epcot, I also like the idea of having one set pathway to the entrance. I always thought it was odd that the "Main Street" of Epcot is split down the middle by the SSE postshow building (and to a lesser extent, the Fountain of Nations in the plaza). (Wow, I think about this way too much.) So the single entrance path idea intrigues me a little bit, even though I'm not completely convinced it would be the better option. We'll see if it ever materializes.

Thanks Lee.

I wasn`t that occupied... okay maybe I was. Trip planning can be a nightmare!

Plus I didn`t want to admit I couldn`t find the non-stamp JPEG on my PC :D

Architecturally speaking, every mid-1990s "update" to Future World's sign systems, Epcot Plaza, and Innoventions (Communicore) areas is now more outdated than the structures they replaced. In the late 90s, the industrial look was extremely popular because it seemed high-tech. Now the steel beams, concrete structures, and monotonous color palettes simply look unfinished.

Tastes change. Future World needs to be updated to look timelessly futuristic...maybe WDI should heavily borrow from films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and the Star Wars universe.
