Sent my Forerunner 305 back to Garmin!

It seems to have semi-died...still makes noise, and sounds like it's turning on, but nothing pops up on the screen. Tech support said to send it back for a new one (I got mine in May).

Anyhoo, I'm planning on 30 minutes tonight after work...Princess Half is in a little over 2 months! :king:

Wow, I think I would freak if my 305 died. Haven't had an issue yet with mine *knock on wood*

Perhaps I'll get a back up just in case.

Did a 5 k at a good clip last night after work.

I feel very ready to go....nervous, but ready...

I'm trying to charge hard with quality runs all week, and then taper a bit until the half.

13.20mi this morning. Legs feel pretty good because of the calf compression sleeves...I think. My back is aching though.

Another half-marathon tomorrow and then my long run on Thrusday or Friday (30 miles), rest day on Saturday (all over town visiting my wife's family), and another 20+ miles on Sunday.

Did 4 miles at an 8:51 pace today. It is the first time I have been below 9 minutes per mile at anything longer than 3 miles, so I am pretty happy with it. It was supposed to be an easy day after a rest day yesterday, but I felt good, so just went with it.

I know I should be tapering, but I really want to do 19 this Friday.

THEN I can taper.

As for what I did. Last night I found out that if you point your back knee in the proper direction in a back balance stance your instructor says "Dave, what did you do, that looks SO much better". Really though, I constantly find it amazing how little changes can make such a big difference in things. Pointing your toes one way, or how you roll your hips. I am still looking for the little thing in running that enables me to crank out 30 milers like our DonaldDuck. (Oh, you are supposed to TIE your shoes, I get it now)

You'd be surprised on my long runs, the little tricks one discovers to make things relatively easier, or get to the next mile, or be more efficient. It's a trial and error method that seems to have worked.
BUT, I don't want to make it seem like cranking out 30 milers is nothing to me...it's freakin' hard, and that's an understatement. It's more mentally challenging than anything. If I can stay focused, I can push through the awful pains. Anyone who is running any distance ( 1 mile, 5 miles 13 miles whatever) that is a challenge for them personally, should be very proud.

This year I'm focused on helping my wife finish her first ever half-marathon (first ever race of any kind, really), so I'm not working on a personal best and I won't really be pushing myself all that much.

Up until the weather got cold, we were going out on the weekends together to do our long runs. When it got cold we moved in to treadmills so we're each doing our own thing. On the weekends, I've been doing 10 miles at a real slow, steady pace. At that pace, I'm really not putting much of a strain on myself.

So should I taper? I've pretty much been planning to continue doing 10 miles on weekends for the couple we have left before the half.

Any thoughts or comments on if you think I should shift that strategy?:shrug:

Getting comfortable and having a routine that works and keeps you on your game is great. I think you might be okay if you don't push yourself, but remember, if you're doing these 10 miles on a treadmill, that's really different from hitting asphalt. I'd try and get some outdoor runs in, but just to play it safe you may want to taper slightly; shave off a mile or two about a week before. But, it all really depends on how you feel. BTW, 13.31 miles this morning. Third consecutive day of 13+miles. Heck, I might even taper a week before!

Regarding my ultra training: I haven't broken the 40 miler yet, just got there, once. Breaking a 30 is killer in itself. As of right now this is how I project my ultra to go in March:

Mile 25 - huffing, puffing, tired but excited

Mile 50 - deer caught in headlights look on my face, possibly puking, legs going to give out

Mile 75 - puking is a definite, crying is a possibility, denial setting in

Mile 100 (if I cross the finish line) - crying like an 8 year old girl who just saw her dog get hit by a car, dragging myself on my elbows to my wife, complete dissorientation.

I will post pics when the time comes...but until then, keep running.

It's about 50 miles from my house - hey I could just run there and back - no problem.

I would have run it if they had a 1/2 marathon option, but the shortest they have is a full. Maybe next year I'l do their 50K, you never know.

Just looking at last years results, the last place finisher did the 100 miles in 29 hours. I really do think I could do that. Maybe there is a 100 miler in my future (but not in 2011)



I think we should get him to run in the Self Transcendance race - 3,100 miles with a 51 day sweep time - yes, you read that right 3,100 miles. And it is all running around and around a roughly half mile block in Jamaca, Queens.

The current record holder is 41 day 8 hours, thats 75 miles a day for a almost 8 weeks straight - cake
