How far in advance does one train for the following year’s Dopey?

EDIT: Or do you mean Dopey 2021?

Nope...I mean 2022. My "training" right now is being consistent at the gym and cross/strength training. Longer miles come later. I will probably SLOWLY start upping my mileage in the spring. I tend to get hurt so I have to train longer than most people and I also lack ambition for long runs. Dopey will be my 1st full and I plan on that being my main focus in 2021

Good luck with your Dopey! Maybe one of these days that will be my next challenge. After, I run most of these race weekends virtually.

Was genuinely curious to I went to the runDisney’s website took a look at the Galloway training plan and saw that the Dopey was a whopping 29 weeks.

To put that in perspective if you wanted to run Dopey virtually and used the Galloway plan you would of had to started training on June 17.

I personally, am seeing that the Galloway plans work well for me so I’ll probably keep using them for future races.

29 weeks isn't surprising. It's...a lot.

When you think about it I guess it’s not that unreasonable. My fairytale challenge plan is 18 weeks long (technically 19 if you can’t the week after).

Then you have to add another 9 weeks (technically 10 if you count the week after) to that since I have made an accelerated training plan for Star Wars. It isn’t that unreasonable and matches up it’s obviously not the same but the number of weeks is similar.

When you add my training for Fairytale and the Kessel Run (plus rival) together it comes in at:

28 Weeks- 18 weeks of Fairytale (skipping the 19th since I start training for Star Wars and they are basically the same anyways).

10 weeks for Kessel (plus rival run) not skipping the last week since that (at least for now) is the last race I have to train for (at least for now). Which is only one week shorter then the Dopey (with easier runs obviously).

A new week starts another week of training. Finally reached Week 10 of my Fairytale Challenge training. I did another maintenance run on my alternate route (unfortunately). Really hoping the snow melts soon so I can get my original route back. We are due for some more snow but it should be slight enough to not matter (hopefully). This week ends in a 10 mile run, which leads right into next week’s WDW 10K and the week after’s WDW Half. Anyways, here are the stats for today’s maintenance run. Little more then a 5K distance.

Time: 42:46
Distance: 3.42
Avg Pace: 12:29

Happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas everyone!

Today I completed another maintenance run that was interesting. The first mile and a half I was able to use my original route, but I realized about a half mile in it wasn’t that safe. As I couldn’t even walk at a regular rate due to the ice. Running wasn’t even feasible. So I had to turn around and use my alternate route. This resulted in a slower pace but I think my original route should be usable for my long run on Sunday. Little less then a 5K distance.

Time: 42:51
Distance: 3.04
Avg Pace: 14:05

I have trained for 11 Dopey's using Hal Higdons' Intermediate Marathon Training 2.

It's 18 weeks. It's a really good plan, and I have never felt unprepared.

Today I did a one mile fast run at 9:30 mainly because that's all I had time for. I needed to get away for X-Mas eve celebrations.

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holiday! I had my first live 5K since February this morning in brisk 32F weather (which was good to run in after a half mile or so warming up!). I think I’ve been focused on pacing and extending miles for improving my long distance times for so long, it was fun to go out and see what would happen if I ramped the pace a little on the shorter distance. I’m very happy I did because, while my pre-race goal was to finish sub-27:00 minutes, I ended up finishing in about 25:35 (8:15/mi) which is almost three minutes better than my prior PR at this distance in February (28:32)!!

Also, about halfway through the race I passed the 1,000K mark for the year 😁

The Under Armour Challenge is 1020K, so I think I may go back out and try to run/walk my way to it while I’m on a roll today, haha!

Got the rest in to get past that 1020 goal! Ran the 10 I needed in just over 1:39:00, but was still a mile or so from the house, so ended up deciding to ease into an even 13.1 for the afternoon run, walked miles 11 and 12 and jogged it in.

Logging lots of miles lately due to long races coming up. I have two (now) virtual marathons coming up in January, a 50k in February, and another marathon in March, and am starting to feel somewhat prepared for them! I think I’m probably where I could do 4:45:00ish for the virtual s and hopefully be in good enough shape (weather dependent) to target 4:30:00 by the time Myrtle Beach Marathon arrives in March.
