Another week signals another week of training. This week is my 7th week of training for the Fairytale Challenge. It also happens that this is another recovery week. Next week however is the first one that adds another day to my schedule. First maintenance run of the week today. Little more then 5K distance.

Time: 42:45
Distance: 3.39
Avg Pace: 12:37

This is the third consecutive run that my pace has hovered around that 12:30 pace mark. I wasn’t really trying to run faster, but I think it is just naturally happening. Which means my race pace (possibly) could be faster or at the very least will hover around that 12:30-12:40 pace mark. I know other factors such as weather, conditions, etc have a effect on race pacing but as it stands that what it seems like.

Sorry for the late report. I ran 8.27 on Friday. (I completed a virtual challenge for the Feaster Five) I combined them and ran
both the 5 miler and the 5k (3.1 miles) I then walked a little over 2 miles with my girlfriend. So a little over 10 on Friday.
Then a little over 4 miles on Sunday. The knee is still hard to deal with during the runs, not bad after.

Amazing 3-mile run this morning. 33F with a 28 wind chill in clear conditions. Full moon out and a bright red-orange sunrise at the end. Just as bright as that fake sunset during the AK night safari.

I have to admit we’ve had temper skirting mid to low 30s for about 10 days now and I just can’t warm up enough to run. I’m fine going out for long walks, but I can’t get my muscles to warm up enough for a safe run.

I have to admit the weather in the Northeast has not been brutal this year. My Friday & Sunday runs were in temps in the mid-30s.
Last year I ran a half marathon, on December 8, 2019, in Haverhill, MA and it was 8 degrees when we got up, mid 20s by the end of
the race. Trust me, you start running and the muscles will warm up.

Did another maintenance run little more then a 5K distance.

Time: 42:43
Distance: 3.37
Avg Pace: 12:39

I am supposed to run my first “magic mile” for my long run. Not really sure, if I’ll really trust the pace data from it, but I’ll give it a shot.

Remember with the "magic mile" you run the distance noted and then run the mile separately and time it.
The idea is to determine how you react to running on tired legs.

Hi all. Still doing my 3-4 mile weekday runs (twice) and 7-8 miles (once) on the weekends. Played tennis with DS for the first time in over 35 years the other day and every muscle in my body was in agony the next day. LOL. Funny how you can be in shape for one sport and so not in shape for another!

Another “long” run today with a magic mile. Here are the stats for the “long” run.

Time: 37:26
Distance: 3.01
Avg Pace: 12:25

...now the magic mile, was probably one of the toughest challenges I have had since running. Not sure if I overdid it but I took only about 3 walking breaks of around 5-10 seconds each. The rest of it was run the best I could without hurting myself. I found the flattest surface I could with minimal turns.

Time: 10:19
Distance: 1.02
Avg Pace: 10:08

Mile 1 (mile pace): 10:10

When you punch that 10:10 number into Galloway’s site here are the stats.

Long Run: 15:13

5K: 10:43

10K: 11:41

Half: 12:12

Marathon: 13:13

So...these numbers not sure how much I should follow them. That long run pace seems low, my normal pace is around that 12:30-13:00 number.

I also ran the Wine & Dine 10K with a pace of 12:32...not 11:41 but I could of improved since the 10K was back on Halloween.

Thoughts?

So the weather here lately has been too cold and yucky for running (well for me anyway, as I’m not training for anything at the moment) but as today was a beautiful (albeit cold) day I went out for a walk and made sure to wear appropriate running gear « just in case ». So in the end I did a 1 mile sprint in the middle of the walk. Total distance overall was 5 miles.

So, you went for a 5 mile run with a 2 mile warm up and a 2 mile cool down. ;)

did a five mile run at a fast pace yesterday on the treadmill while watching my team choke :(

did an hour on treadmill today.

BTW prices on Disney hotels with renting points are insane right now!

We got a nice split stay Boardwalk and Grand Floridian booking at a moderate rate.

This morning I did another maintenance run. Same distance as normal little more then a 5K.

Time: 42:46
Distance: 3.38
Avg Pace: 12:38

I am still trying to figure out how to implement those new metrics from the magic mile.

Temps have been in the 20s-30s, and the sides of the roads/unpaved roads are pretty much a sheet of ice. Winter is gonna be very interesting as I don't dare go to the gym. (Still paying for it though : ( )

It's a predictor of your potential for longer distances. Nothing to implement.
