What did you do?

PR’d a 5k yesterday 28:44! I think running the longer distances lately with responsible nutrition bailed me out on this one. Against my better judgment, a quick Friday 4pm Happy Hour turned into pitchers and bowling til 11pm and, to add to the poor decision making of the evening, I proceeded to polish off the pound of shrimp and cocktail sauce I had in the fridge before bed and didn’t wake up in time to fit in a pre-race breakfast. Never making that mistake again!

Next up, the Universal Orlando 5k and 10k this coming weekend. I think I’ll plan to stick to pasta and an early bedtime this go around. 😜
Those Universal races tempted me, especially the 10K as the course winds through Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade - super cool! But after the two race weekends this month, I have to be a responsible adult. 😂 Please post a report - I’d love to hear all about it!

Will do! I’ve never been to Universal before either, so I’m really looking forward to it (and was happy to have the runs to give me an excuse/justification to make another Orlando trip between marathon and princess weekends, haha).

Planning on doing a Runner’s Square (the new version of Race Retreat) report soon too to give more details of what people can expect if they purchase it in the future. I don’t think I’ve seen a thread on either of those yet, so I may start a couple of new ones for the two topics, unless anyone knows of a current thread they would be better under 😃

Awesome, I appreciate it! Best of luck to you on both distances!

Wait, Universal Florida has a 10K?

3 chilly miles Saturday and core Sunday. Felt like I really struggled Saturday then stopped my Garmin and saw I was running way too fast.

Running Universal Orlando

Yup! The course looks really interesting too. I just personally wish it was later in the month. Too close to my other events (and I really should be saving money for an upcoming registration). Sea World had their own 5K this past Saturday - had to skip that for similar reasons. This time of year (our only really good running season) is just too popular!

Not running yet this year (whatever cold/cough I came back with coupled with a bad smog episode here is not conducive to running (at least not outdoors) but I did go for a brisk 2.85 mile walk this evening. I have a friend that had an emergency liver transplant a few months ago and she wants to slowly get back into running so the walk was more for her than for me.

Crushed my PR today at the Celebration Half! What a difference weather-wise from 2 weeks ago at the WDW Half - 40s at the start, only in the 50s at the finish, sunny with a light cloud cover and breeze. I finished in 2:43:06 - which in Disney terms, bumps me up to Corral E! I never thought a sub-2:45 would be attainable.

Congrats on the PR. I am not sure on the corral bump though. My proof of time for this year was 2:38:53 and I was in corral F.

Tues was 3.68@?@9:27. Did one of those simulated runs on some random island, so the TM adjusted the incline automagically. Today was 1@.5@10 then bike.

Wait, Universal Florida has a 10K?

Sounds like they are trying to compete with runDisney by making them official Uni events (weren't the previous ones for charities?) and adding more to the calendar.

Same for me, I submitted a 2:27:44 half time just before the deadline for Marathon Weekend and got F as well, I figured it may have been because my Marathon time was projected to be a longer split and they were putting Dopey runners in the same corral for both races. But then again, they put me in A for both the 5 and 10k with my 9-10 minute pacing which was probably a little better placement than I should have, so I have no idea how they make these decisions.

Wait, Universal Florida has a 10K?

And a 5k! But no challenge medal in Florida yet, but that will likely come soon, as they introduced one for their 5k/10k California races a few months ago.

I’m no historian on this, but the best I can tell from googling, I think the past ones were as a host location for the Florida Cup. At least according to their promotional materials, this weekend appears to be the inaugural Universal Orlando branded race weekend (after unrolling races in California last year, apparently starting with the Minions 5k).

Definitely had some for charity previously, see this thread -> https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/universal-5k.831841/

So I still cannot run since Dopey......still suffering from foot pain caused by PF.

But I have been doing an elliptical for an hour every day.

So i am starting a diet tomorrow. Hopefully this helps. I need to lose about 40 pounds or more.

The PF is a direct result from my weight gain....think of me tomorrow as I hit it hard,

7m and 4m runs last week and then got sick. Felt out of breath walking up the stairs. Did 3m on the TM yesterday really slow but still fighting this off.

Congrats on the PR. My 5K PR is 28:52 so you beat me by 8 seconds. I'm no where close to that any more though. My days of trying to PR are over; now I just enjoy the run for the running - and the extra calories I can eat! ;)
Curious to hear about the Uni races.

Finally did some running tonight - only went about 1.8 miles but it felt great to start up again. I should have gone last night though, because we were having spring temps (high 50s lows 60s) and a storm came in over night and we‘re down to mid 30s.
