Ok, some numbers, since May of this year:

4 races

1621.11 total miles

170, 410 calories burned

3 midfoot fractures

3 toenails lost (there is just something cool about saying, "I run so many miles, that pieces of my body are falling off." :sohappy:)

That's it. Cheers.

I have yet had this happen. I hope Im lucky and it doesnt happen. Does this occur from genetics combo'd with exercise or just too many miles?

I havent gotten any black toes either.

Great stats. Im waiting till December 18th to post my 1 year totals since I started recording them. It wont be anywhere in the universe as yours, but still an accomplishment. I wish I had been calculating calories etc then whole year, but that only started in then summer.

Thanks Joel. I haven't gotten black toenails, but the blisters under the nails is what caused me to lose them. To my wife as I hold up the toenails in question, "Do you think I should bronze them and turn them into a necklace???" She looks at me with mouth slightly ajar...

I pretty much logged everything; miles, time, calories, ascent, descent, grade, avg pace, max pace, speed, weather, mood, injuries, food, etc...

I always lost my left big toenail at the start of soccer season. Must have had bad shoes.

Did 4 miles today in 35 degree weather. Very little wind luckily. It was supposed to snow here in Georgia but didn't. I was hoping. Thought it would be cool to run through a snowstorm. :xmas:

If I had a 305, I would have to declare that another separate hobby. :D

It was a stern cold today. 32 and cloudy is like 25. I think we were going to get some showers too, but nothing.

7 Miles tonight per the schedule. I kind of wanted to run this one a little fast and my first mile was a 7 minute pace and then my shins caught on fire. That took about 2 miles to work out. Overall, I ran the last 3 or so miles at about a 7:45 pace and averaged a 7:50 over 7.

Just for SnG's:
min elevation 689
max elevation 863
total ascent 243 feet

Oh, one note. There was a man standing in his front yard waiting for his dog to...well, you know, and I ran by and he said, "That's what I call dedication running in this weather." I waved and smiled real big. Man, it was then best feeling. It was about 28 or 29 when I was out there.

In October of 2008, I ran a 13K Tower of Terror race, got a black toenail and felt a foot injury the next day - I replaced the shoes.

In January of 2009, I ran a half marathon for the first time with the new shoes and got a black toenail all over again, but the foot felt fine. I kept the shoes.

In January of 2010, I *competed* in the half marathon on Saturday with the same shoes and they got drenched due to the rain/sleet/slush we all remember so fondly from that day. In a bit of a panic, I bought a new pair of shoes at the expo then ran and finished the full marathon the next day in the brand new pair of shoes (not advised!). Funny, I had no new toenail injury.

I ran another half marathon in February in that new pair of shoes purchased at the expo - no new injury.

Sometime around July of 2010, my toenail completely healed.

September of 2010, ran a half marathon in the new shoes from Marathon weekend. No new injury.

As of today, I have been running around 20 to 30 miles per week for the last couple of months and my feet are completely healthy.

I think it is all about not overdoing the training and wearing the right fitting shoes.

Good to hear.

The only thing weird I have experienced, was then first pair of Asics I owned, my second left toe would peel on the end of it and always seem to have a little blister. It was on the end, not top or bottom. Weird.

Thats scary.

I just switched to Asics, and have the EXACT same problem (same foot, same toe). No blister, but it will get a little sore and the skin starts to peel.

I may switch to thicker socks.

I had to move my long run to tomorrow, Friday, so I tapered today to 9.26mi. I am in love with this cold weather, no heat fatigue!

If I stick to my ultra marathon "plan," I should be just under 85mi this week.

Also I decided, in addition to the WDW half, and the NJ ultra, to run the NJ Marathon in May to qualify for the Boston marathon :D.

Wife: "Wait, you need ANOTHER pair of shoes???"

Let me redefine blister. Not your traditional blister. It was like then skin was always a little damp right there. Oh wait, I just verped in the back of my mouth from talking about it. Nevermind. :D

4 and change last night.

I think I need to get some tights. I have long pants I run in, but they are more like warm up pants. Very loose, breathable fabric. Along the river where the wind is worse it was a might chilly.

I have some tights from when I played sports in high school. I thought they were probably worn out a bit and I needed 2 pair anyway, so, I purchased the Nike Combat Pro compression tights. Not the ultra warm, just the normal tights. They are a hint denser than pantyhose. Not a shocker when you are talking about Nike quality (cheap), but they were $27, normally $35 and the super nice ones are more than $50. Ill take them, but I wish they were a hint warmer.

I don't usually like to spring for Under Armour, but I do have one pair of their warm tights, and it was well worth the investment for those bone-chilling winter days.

I know, it gets cold here, but only about 2 months worth so I just suffer a little. I did see the Ultra Warm ones that were fine fleece lined. Man, I would bake in the those. I would rather be a hint chilled than too warm in the winter. i dont know why. I guess because if I were too hot, it isnt like I can take the tights off mid run and that is what i would want to do. If Im a bit chilled, I can run faster.

My thoughts would be different if I lived in your climate. :D

The only thing I have from HS that is close to resembling tights are hockey socks.

I don't think I want to run in those.

10 Miles this am. Nice run. I was a bit tired and was supposedly going to run it hard, but after 2 miles, I shifted gears from 5th gear down to 4th gear and just cruised. I ran about a 7 minute mile 1 and 2.

1:18:12 - 7:45 pace overall.

I think I pulled my right butt muscle the other day and it didnt feel good from mile 5 on. Ill put on my big boy pants and deal with it. :D

Have a great weekend all.

Nick, Le Fem Cat struck again. Mile 1, she was hiding behind a car I was running past and jumped out at me. Scared the crap out of me. I threatened her life again. Le Fem Cat - 2, Joel - 0

I did 12.5 miles today with a sub 13 minute pace. That's all I need to do in January, right? :D Funny, mile 11 was my fastest because the sun was going down fast and it was getting COLD!
