Frankly, most of yesterday's announcements were bittersweet. The boards seem to be overrun with negativity because every attraction has its pluses and minuses. Disney's Riviera Resort looks like a generic high-rise. The gondolas are needed but not air conditioned. The Mickey ride is coming but is also a badly animated commercial for the new cartoons instead of a zany ride through almost 100 years of the Mouse. Epcot is getting two new attractions lazily based on IPs instead of grandly returning to the park's groundbreaking, visionary purpose established over thirty years ago. Star Wars Galaxy's Edge will be impressive but is only two rides. Toy Story looks cheaper than anyone imagined. The Minnie Vans are directly competing with Uber and don't solve the overall problems with existing transportation. Tron is needed but very short, and the MK theater is basically a big box, and BOTH risk destroying the MK sightlines.
Even the POTC panel appealed to the overused "DL is not a museum" quote the company shrieks every time WDI makes a bad decision, and they're using Walt's words completely out of context.
The combination of excitement and complaints could go on and on.
But you know what? All things considered, this is great news for upcoming attractions that haven't been value engineered to death. If they work, they'll stay; if they don't, they'll be replaced. I'm excited about Tron and can't wait to glide on the gondolas.
