That's a good point. Neutral is good. Very good. I mean, that was Walt's whole point right? Rides that families could ride and enjoy together. I'm not sure a lot of this new stuff would qualify as that anymore.
It was close to breaking even though! The crazy thing is, it wasn't very good at all. Yes, it's technically a sequel, but it can be easily argued that it was a new and fresh franchise. For not having massive name recognition (like Marvel for instance), and bad reviews Disney should have been very pleased. If it had great reviews it would have easily topped 550M.TRON: Legacy was not a bomb. It didn't do as well as Disney hoped, but it didn't bomb.
Budget: $170 million
Box office: $400.1 million

But Disney does not want you to do that... That's the reason why they are doing it.I don't know but if I want this much superheroes and action movies, I'll go to Universal where I don't have to deal with Fastpass+!
I agree. I look at it like this.. you see so many girls in their princess dresses, either from BBB or their parents fix them up themselves.. but there is sooo many of them. I can't even count how many times I've been in an elevator with one...just at the resort.
Boys have Pirates, sure., but generally a pirate isn't the same level of adoration for a boy as a girl has for her favorite princess. I think that's why you don't see as many boys dressed up as one.
BUT- Star Wars- That is a comparable level. Boys have all of the toys, bedding, room decorations.. just like the little girls have of their princesses.
I've said this several times, sorry to repeat it again...
The first time I ever saw a look of pure wonder and amazement on my child's face, is the first time he saw a Stormtrooper at HS.
A SW or Marvel character is the Cinderella/Elsa equivalent for a lot of boys. I think Disney needs that.

I really do think that in the late 2020's we'll see a few original rides again. Right now, they just have to compete with Universal.
Are this many announcements normal for the expo? Haven't been around (online) for any previous events of this nature.I have to confess I am a little overwhelmed by the number of announcements and the magnitude of the changes. I so far never experienced such a massive barrage of announcements by DISNEY at any time. This is partially at least what we hoped for for a long time. Although not every anouncement thrills me, at least a LOT is happening and it is overwhelming (perhaps bcs. we were expecting not much). I will write more later...
That 170 million figure likely doesn't include the print and advertising budget which could have run another 80-100 million though it's likely less for what Tron wasTRON: Legacy was not a bomb. It didn't do as well as Disney hoped, but it didn't bomb.

2015 - major announcements: toy story land, star wars land, sunset safari rides on Kilimanjaro, enhancements to Star Tours & other SW related stuff for DHS, RoL details, details on Pandora, and Soarin' Around the World (I think that was it)Are this many announcements normal for the expo? Why wouldn't this work in 2017? The last two non-ip rides we got were Soarin' and Everest and as we all know, those were huge disappointments. This sounds fantastic. And if it was 1988, I think we'd have a shot at this type of idea happening. 2017 though, no chance they add a new attraction like that independent of a ready made IP. So, knowing the Disney "world" we live in now, I am just happy they got close. Rat may not be a perfect fit, but it's as close as we are likely to get.

Once Disney decided to go princess heavy they kind of alienated young boys after toddler years..

What's next, the John Carter experience?
