What are you most excited about from D23 2017?

Without knowing a ton about the ride, I think it's the name and some of the concept. I had hoped it would be Mickey taking us through the movies or something along those lines. It sounds like it's more of a random story which doesn't really fit the facade outside. And definitely, that name is insanely long for a sign.

I think I most excited to see Mickey finally getting a ride thats all his and all the supposed new technology that is being used to create it.

I cant decide if I'm more excited about Tron coming to MK or seeing the Star Wars model which was beyond my wildest dreams. So I guess those two are a tie for 1st place for me. A close second would be the Star Wars resort. I will stay there one day even if I have to sell a kidney to do it. It is my destiny!

I voted for Tron but my close second was the Space Restaurant. GotG and Rat could be in that category too but they kind of lost some that excitement level because we all knew (or were fairly confident) about them for long time. I find the MK theater an exciting addition too.

MaMRR (Runaway Railway) for some reason disappointed me. I don't know why yet. Perhaps I expected something else (after all we've all been calling it Great Mickey Ride).

Star Wars resort would be exciting if I could convince myself (and my wife) to drop that kind of money on it. Calling it "that kind of money" as all indications are it'll be extremely expensive.

The rest of announcements I do not find exciting. SW:GE and opening time for TSL are sort of just updates. Gondola and Van Service will improve transportation as they should, nothing exciting though. Riviera resort could care less. New ship is unrelated to WDW.

All of it, especially tron, the movie might not have done as well as Disney hoped but nobody can deny that visually it's stunning, if the ride can capture the that, we could be in for something special.
Not everyone is going to agree on everything that's coming to WDW, but everyone can agree that something needed to.

I swear to god if one person votes for the Minnie Vans......
Well... ;)

Rat, Guardians and Mickey might turn out a net loss for me.

The Riviera is yet another zen-wrecking DVC tower. The Star Wars hotel looks great, but even if I would stay there, I would stay there like once? Twice? Same with restaurants, although the space restaurant looks cool (but operated by an outside vendor it has incentive to settle on superficial decor like the mediocre Italian restaurants ran by the same company, or akin to the horrid Rainforest at DAK)

The MK theater sounds great, Tron I'm mostly positive about too. So those two would win out, beating the minivan (I love the pun!) Hmmm, pity. There goes my opportunity to annoy you!

The Mickey ride looks awesome. The Tron ride looks fun, but the movie was a total bomb. What's next, the John Carter experience?
20k and Swiss Family aren't hot movie properties either.

The attractiveness of the IP doesn't determine the attractiveness of the ride - that great fallacy of these IP- driven times. It determines mainly the ease of marketability.

Tron the movies have got great visuals, perfect for a ride. Although I am not sure the Shanghai coaster did it truly justice.

I voted for the MK Theater, and would follow that with the Space Restaurant (and the Mission: SPACE Updates, but I don't think that that is an option.)
I like the ideas for the rides that they are building, and will probably enjoy all of them, but I don't think that they are necessarily being built in the best locations:
  • Guardians should be in DHS,
  • MaMRR should be in Animation Courtyard - and I don't like the art style that is being used,
  • TRON is not "Tomorrow", but then nothing in Tomorrowland is anymore, so does not fit as bad as the others - and once they decide what they want to do with Tomorrowland as a whole, could fit well - however, having two "in the dark" rollercoasters next to each other seems strange
  • Ratatouille fits better than most in France, but is another IP attraction in World Showcase - I have experienced it in WDSP, and it is a good ride, so am happy that it is coming to WDW
We will not be staying at the Star Wars Resort, or the Riviera Resort (RIP Barbados and Martinique), or using the new ships on the Cruise Line, and don't think that "The Art of MARVEL" seems to be the best idea for a resort either.
We will not be using the Minnie Vans, and I like the idea of the Disney Skyliner, but not the decorations on the gondolas themselves.
Overall, lots of good announcements, but I feel that the locations of where everything is being built is putting a dampener on it for now - but looking forward to experiencing them once open (our planned trip for the 50th is looking as though we will have new attractions in the double figures from our previous trip in 2016, which is exciting - I can hardly argue with...
  • Happily Ever After
  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • N'avi River Journey
  • Pandora
  • Slinky Dog Rollercoaster
  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Millennium Falcon
  • Star Wars Battle Ride
  • Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
  • Main Street Theater
  • TRON Lightcycles
  • MissionSPACE: Green
  • Space Restaurant
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Ratatouille: Kitchen Calamity
  • New China Film
  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Disney Skyliner
...as a list of additions being added in a 5 year period.)

What is worrying me at the moment is the Pixar additions to Disneyland, and how they will affect our trip booked for next year - waiting for more information to be announced.

People may not like Bob Iger, but you can't deny he has really stepped it up with the Parks. This period may be Disney's strongest ever when it comes to new additions.

I'm not totally sold on this one quite yet either, and I'd rather they have done something different but I think the whole point of Runaway Railway is that we're literally going through the movie screen into a short you'd see before the main presentation. It works to a degree.

I actually voted for Rat. MK theater would have been my second choice. So we half agree.

Most excited about the Rat ride

Not excited about anything else

But that's ok, plenty of old stuff to still enjoy at MK so I'll stay over there and make my trips shorter

I ride Rat 5000 times per year, so it is meaningless to me to have it over in WDW for my once a year trip. I have an AP to both WDW and DLP, so the current cloning back-and-forth is unfortunately wasted on me. Although I understand I am a teeny demographic so I can scarcely hold it against them.

RAT is a good ride. Too tame to be truly great, but solid nonetheless and a decided crowd favorite. You'll love it. Not that it fits in WS. I would've preferred it in DHS, but it wouldn't have the RAT Paris area, which is an essential ingredient to the charm and experience. But, RAT's Paris is not WS France. They are different entities, as much as Frozen's Norway isn't WS Norway.

Maybe this is the drama of IP obsession. RAT isn't dependent on Ratatouille. The ip doesn't make the popularity. You can build an identical ride based on any IP and make it work. A 2CV bracing the mad Parisian traffic in a vintage 1950s New Wave movie setting would've worked just as well and done the pavilion justice.

For me it's a tie between Mickey's ride and the new theatre, followed closely by the new Space restaurant.
I'm pretty much indifferent to the Tron coaster - It seems cool enough and it's nice MK is shown love but from a practical standpoint I'm worried the strain this might put on the park. The place is packed at the seems as it is, I can't imagine what a new coaster could do to its attendance.
The worst (and probably only real) offender of the lot is GotG. I love the franchise, and Ellen is a tired excuse of a ride that is really only good at serving people ideal seating for naps, but the further chipping away at Epcot, this time with ZERO regard to its original message is disheartening. A case could be made for Frozen, and IMO Ratatouille is a rather classy fit for an IP, but this? No, no. no!

My $0.02 on the subject. :)

This sounds fantastic. And if it was 1988, I think we'd have a shot at this type of idea happening. 2017 though, no chance they add a new attraction like that independent of a ready made IP. So, knowing the Disney "world" we live in now, I am just happy they got close. Rat may not be a perfect fit, but it's as close as we are likely to get.
