Wetland Use Expansion Permit

I think all the remaining land that is going to be developed is going to be not only a DVC resort but also a DVC 5th Gate. You will be not only able to purchase points for time share rooms but also park points for the new time share DVC only 5th Gate. Do not worry to much, if you try hard you may be able to "rent" points for day visit or two. It will also have it's own monorail system.

I'm not sure what drugs you're on, but I'd really like to be on them too.

The land clearing by Mk cast member parking lot is the relocation of center drive intersection with reams road. It will include a traffic light. The project is also going to be relocating cast connections (which is rumored to relocate to western way).

Just wanted to follow up on this permit. The permit was originally filed on 8/1, and then on 8/28 the South Florida Water Management District sent an 18-page letter back to RCID asking for further information on 21 different points. As of today RCID has still not responded to this letter.

So what does that mean for wetland use?

Just a small update on this. As of last September the SFWMD was waiting for a response from Disney on a number of questions they had on the original permit. There was finally a response from Disney in March asking for an extension. Disney now has until 6/6/2015 to provide the requested information. So at this point, this permit has not been approved. It's becoming clear that the changes requested in this permit were not for any immanent projects otherwise Disney would not have let this go so long.

That question really isn't relevant here since it wouldn't be .5 square miles of contiguous space, it would likely me small sections of wetland adjacent to existing developed land or land that is already suitable for development.

Can you give an example of what .5 Sq Miles would looklike...Disney Springs Pop Century etc.

My first thought was maybe another 'DISTRICT' similar to Disney Springs on the west side to spread out the crowds? Or maybe another 'HOTEL PLAZA BLVD' area on the west side!? There is a lot of land on the west side of the property that could be built up to mimic the east side and increase capacity and revenue!? Just a thought!

320 acres, or about the size of Epcot. Though as danlb_2000 noted, the acreage is not contiguous.

Well that WOULD be quite a large area for building...if that's what it WILL BE used for. But until there is final confirmation on what the land will be used for in the future, why even entertain such things and get hopes and dreams up!? I would prefer to at least know about the land purchase and then sit back and watch it develop into whatever they are developing it into! That large land area near Flamingo Crossing would NOT be for a 5th gate, I think it will be for a Disney style west side entertainment complex with parking lots! Or maybe they could be moving all of the building around Cast parking behind MK when the new road is finished...who knows they could also be clearing the land for Cast Member Housing! The options are endless...only time will tell! BUT WE WILL BE KEPT INFORMED OF WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THIS LAND THROUGH OUR FRIENDS ON HERE! THAT'S A FACT! :)

As @LL2WDW pointed out, this is not a contiguous 320 acres. Part of this permit was Disney asking to be able to specify the location of the wet land impacts at the time they permit each project instead of doing it ahead of time. This leads me to believe they had no single project in mind for this land, they just wanted the freedom to take it as needed.

Just to clarify the 320 acres are not new land, these are "impacts" to existing wet lands. Also, despite what other sites have reported, Disney did not buy a big chunk of land by Flamingo Crossing, they just added a small piece of land to the RCID Water Management Plan that they already owned. The large purchase of land Disney did recently is a distance from WDW and was bought strictly for the purposes of conservation.

You and all your pesky "facts".

Interesting permit was just filed with the South Florida Water Management District. The permit if modifying the RCID mater plan to allow for an additional 350 acres of wetland impacts on top of the 599.94 acres already allowed for in the plan. To offset this they have added a number of small parcels of land (which Disney already owened) at the edges of the property to the RCID Master Plan area. They will also be purchasing a 3,004 acre parcel called "Mira Lago" which is in southern Osceola/northern Polk counties to help offset the wetland use. Note that the permit does not say where the new 350 acres of wetland impact will be, but says these changes will provide them the freedom to determine this as needed.

Thank you! This is the most interesting piece of news to come out of Orlando in YEARS!

Remember a couple of months ago, Iger said that he had approved a major expansion at WDW but didn't elaborate? Everyone thought he was referring to Star Wars Land and no further curiosities were raised. By the looks of it now, it may be a lot more than just Star Wars Land and he means quite literally what he said! Can't wait to see what it all is. I doubt it, but I won't rule out a fifth park even! Most likely, it has to do with the wetlands currently east of DHS to be prepped for DHS expansion, but this expansion may be more than just for DHS. It may even be for new hotels as well and possibly a new connecting element.
