They are doing some land clearing next to the MK CM lot near parcel 2. I expect this to be a parking lot expansion

That is probably this project...

They could fill int he wetlands east of the Studios to build the rumored parking garages to expand the park into the current lot...

Rob, that was exactly my thought. A DHS expansion using the wetlands to the east (the area between the east side of the current back entrance and the west of the creek) has always seemed to me to the most likely expansion plot for Star Wars. The street between Star Tours and Backlot Catering/Mos Eisley Cantina (where Jedi Training is now) would simply continue on for a new Star Wars land.

Couple that with what would be a much-needed expansion of the parking, and you have quite a bit of wetland use (of course only probably 1/5 of what they're requesting, but if they have to put in a request for wetland expansion anyway they might as well do it all at one time).

The locations that are being added are likely not going to be used for anything other then preservation, since they were added to offset the use of other wetlands.

Are you sure you are reading the map right? Could the highlighted areas be for future development and the preservation areas designated elsewhere?

In any case, there is obviously long term planning taking place. The rumors that the property will only be sold off in chunks going forward now seem quite overstated.

After reading the permit more closely I re-tract my original statement. The permit does say that lands being added around the edges of the property may be used for expansion, even if they are wetlands. The off-site parcel is intended for offsetting the wetland use and they currently plan to only use it for conservation.

I really don't think this has any relation to selling off lands, the land were are talking about is already Disney owned they are just making part of RCID, there is still other Disney owned lands outside of RCID that could be sold. As for long term planning, that's nothing new, they have been doing long term planning for WDW since 1965.

But they just expanded the CM parking lot a few months ago. Are they doing that again? Just curious, as I didn't notice that.

If they are expanding the CM lots at MK, might that indicate plans for the "executive parking" area behind TL (where the stage used to be) possible be used for onstage in the future? I know, wishful thinking.....

This parking expansion is way back in the North Service Area, no way executives are going to want to walk that far. :)

It seemed to me that the placement of the highlighted areas almost had to be areas being "added" for development. That is what is most encouraging about the news. More investment in infrastructure for the MK and other vital areas. I see potential for buffers, new support areas and on-stage expansion possibilities.

So, I think we can safely conclude that they are actively planning new development and expansion around WDW contrary to much of what is said by some on these boards.

And it seems like more than just the standard strategic planning IMO. Rather I think we are seeing more dynamic strategies actively unfolding. Again, in my opinion.

Thinking from a long term perspective, they probably realized that the process to clear the use of wetlands through the government red-tape is harder than walking through the swamps they'd like to bulldoze. So they're biting the bullet now, and getting approved for a "cache" of future wetland expansion. That way when they need 5-10 acres of land every few years, they don't need to keep going back to ask for more. They're pretty much locked in by wetlands now, so anytime they consider building on untouched land, they're looking to relocate more wetlands.
