West Side Parking Garage construction

As has been discussed earlier, there are far to many of those columns for them to just be for lights. You don't need that many light poles on a parking garage.

The ones without lights are simply traffic barriers. They are going for a parking lot theme rather than bumper cars.

It's a possibility, but it's not unusual to see garages with no barriers between lanes on the roof.

Kind of odd, I don't see any obvious ramp to that top level, but if there is one, is it possible those stubs will have something like these solar covered parking gizmos mounted to them?

^^^^ This is what I was referring to. I hope they do something like this. A) It will provide some sun protection for the vehicle to keep it from scorching in the summer FL sun. B) it will allow them to power fans and the elevators without adding to the electric bill. Plus, it just looks nicer than a barren rooftop.

The center section of the garage itself is the ramp from one level to the next. If you look closely at the pic posted on the previous page, you can see that the level under construction starts on Level 3 at the far end (Buena Vista Blvd side) and ends on Level 4 on the near side.

Good catch! I didn't notice that before but now that you described it I can see it in the latest construction photos. This also explains why the center section is being built slower then the outside two sections.

Good catch! I didn't notice that before but now that you described it I can see it in the latest construction photos. This also explains why the center section is being built slower then the outside two sections.

Maybe you can point out to me what you're seeing, but it doesn't appear to me that the center section of the garage slopes. If the center did slope down, it would render the entire first level of the center section of the parking garage completely unusable (because the roof would slope down to the ground). In the image below, the center floor appears to be level, front to back, with the sections on each side.

I think it's sloped upward from the far side to the near. With the entrance coming in on the edges? I could be wrong.

This is how I see it. The yellow entrance is for one floor, and the orange entrance is the floor above. The red lines show how it slopes.

I think that's an illusion from the angle of the photograph. If you zoom in, the right section of the garage appears to be just one level higher than the (under construction) center section at both the front and rear (Buena Vista side) of the structure. Or I could need a trip to the Optometrist, that's also possible.

that deck DOES have a slope there, only tiny little decks do not have parking on the slopes...the deck inclines upwards toward the photo location

dk blue deck level 3, red deck level 4, green deck level 5.
purple is sloping deck from ~deck 3 to ~deck 4, the cutouts on the finished decks at the fore and aft are areas for a steeper slope to finish the climb to the next deck level

I hope they put in what our new parking garage at Easton Towne Center in Columbus, Oh has... It is a system that has a green light above each spot so you can see if there is an open parking space. Then when you park there, it turns red. There are even blue ones for the handicap spaces... Then it relays back to a board and arrows through the structure that show how many spaces in a certain direction... I will go tonight and try to take a pic.

That has become customary in new builds up here, helps with the snow months. It would have been cool if Disney went one step further with the garages. The new 16 story apartment building at the University of IL-Champaign just built an automated parking system for the building.

Cars enter the garage from Street, then moved by elevators to "parking vaults" on the second, third and fourth floors where drivers would not be allowed.

There would be no parking ramps, less space between cars because the car doors don't open, and less ceiling height because people don't need to walk on those floors. It was done not only for space and capacity but also for security within the parking garage. It is pretty cutting edge for an area with corn and soybeans surrounding it.

On a college campus? Not here.

Though I do remember way back when Disney World was Futuristic with their builds.

The issue is more how many people will be showing up at a single time. That would depend on how many stations there are for cars to be dropped off and picked up as well as if one has to return to that specific station.

If it's my car I'd rather park it myself anyway. A rental car I don't care about so much. When the elevator goes down or the system malfunctions some parking attendant who is probably making $8/hr isn't going to be much help.

And here I was hoping for a circular structure on the edges to get to each floor rather than driving past rows and rows of parked cars. They have this at OIA short term parking... And showboat casino in AC (so sad to see that one go).
