Save Pleasure Island has some new pictures of the garage..

The crane has been removed from the western end and it looks the most complete. I am trying to figure out the purpose of the columns on the top level. Since the crane is gone it doesn't look like it's going up another level, so what are these going to be used for?

Maybe some sort of awning type of addition? Possibly to give some protection from the elements without the need of another full roof? Just a guess.

I am guessing light poles and dividers.
That would be my guess as well.

It also looks like they maintained the same column pattern from floor to roof. If the columns are under-loaded, stacking more levels on top of the existing structure in the future would be possible.

Interesting thought. For such massive structures they really seem to be moving fast. I still think they will open this year unless there are more ramps being added that we have not heard about.

I have no idea why they protrude onto the top deck but those are definitely the tops of the support columns. Maybe they are going to attach steel cables to them to divide the deck into sections??? There would definitely be no reason to put lights on all of those poles. It's a parking lot, not a sports stadium. It looks like there may be conduit sticking out of some of them.

The columns are meat to give them the option of adding another deck. The concrete encapsulating the rebar within would be removed and then a column rebar segment would be tied in and it would be repoured into a full height column. This is very common in poured in place parking garages as it is fairly affordable to do as a "just in case". It is likely that some of the columns will have lighting on top but I have to imagine it would be every other column as using every single one would be overkill.

Yep. Just like both of Universal's massive parking garages are built to add another floor if needed.

In defense of any delay, at this point two-lane Buena Vista Drive is overwhelmed by the limited number of parking spaces left available. Until the road is complete, no sense in opening up more parking.
