West Side Parking Garage construction

I am going to start the rumor that it is the first of many monorail support beams ;)

even if they had no plans to, they really should be forward thinking to at least allow space for an expansion in the future, since never know what they may wanna do in 10 to 20 years.

though personally i would never expland the current monorail system, I would build an APM system with the little cars like at heathrow airporter

or maybe one with more medium style cars, to allow passengers to select where they need to go, to have a flexible need based system vs a fixed system (ie monorail) or a disney scheduled system (ie busses)

or say, let the guests use their cars, or take a bus, since single car commuter trains cannot possibly move 50000 people a day on two tracks...

Im going to keep this civil and simple, but obviously you dont know much about disney's customers.

many dont have vehicles on property, and busses while yes they work they are far from being modern/ high tech transportation solutions of tommorrow that walt disney wanted, he would be so furious to know that busses are the primary mode of transportation at wdw right now.

people also use disney transport when their group wants to split up and then meet back up later in the day at a different location on property.

you obviously dont know much about the apm systems, they can carry way more people than you can imagine, with a high degree of efficiency especially if a system was designed to provide point to point travel without having to change transportation modes.

building an apm system wouldn't in any way shape or form "disallow" people from using their cars, it would simply add an additional level of convenience around the resort, and now with the magic band technology they could even charge extra for access to such a system, thus creating a justifiable profit/loss for the financial books

Busses may not be cool modern technology, but they are practical and more flexible then any track based system.

that was where i was going with my comment. it does not matter how 'cool' something is, a track based system cannot handle the extreme loads, well not without massive amounts of tracking... the road infrastructure is already in place and another fleet of buses would be cheaper to purchase and operate (since there would be no capital expenditure for tracking bridges and flyovers). so :end: of individual/party light rail(non-train) discussion, the start-up costs would be too prohibitive, and the throughput would not be enough to even consider it viable. as for the comment of people not having their cars on property? have you driven down world drive at 08:00?

Don't know that I would completely rule out having it open by the Christmas holidays (say, mid-December) or so, but probably not earlier. They're likely to be conservative in their estimates for something printed months in advance.

How long does it take to build a parking garage? How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? How many grains of sand are there on a beach? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

So done by 2017? Bwahahahahahaha.

Start firing executives and see if this project gets moving.

Which is fine for a parking garage especially when the main function is parking. The artist rendering with those huge wind shutters reminds me of everything I hate about WDW value resorts.
He means the size, organization and layout of the garage itself, not the aesthetic extras.

It is not fine if your needs can not be met by what is available as a prefabricated structure. A custom built structure allows you to maximize your usable space.

I for one will not care if it takes 6 months longer to build a custom vs prefabbed structure is it means more parking spaces.
