OK you two, I was actually talking about being tired this time

What's awful is that even I didn't think of that when I read the post. It's pretty bad when Scott and Mad are worse than me.

Added to the list... hand gel, paper plates, paper bowl, plastic forks and spoons. And if you buy canned goods, don't forget the hand held can opener.

Also adding in pet foods. Many people think of their pets as part of the family.

And bleach to be used for sanitizing.

Pet food is a big one. I've seen people in need give their own portions to their dogs.

Excellent idea! I would donate but we are donating through my wife's company as they will match dollar for dollar.

I also wanted to mention about Scott's question about tax write off. If your donation is under $250.00 you only need the payment reciept or cancelled check. So for PayPal you should have a record of the transaction when you "send money". Just print it out for your records.

All the best to you Guys, we have you all in our hearts here in England.

Well done to Gordon for setting this up, and congratulations to everyone for being so generous and giving.

Yeah it really is good. With my family (grandparents down) each year we use to do a grab bag for Chrismas but now we just do charity instead. There are 10 families and do $100 each to bring it to an even $1000.00. Each year a new family gets the choice of the charity. Ours was a few years ago so it won't be us this year but my wife is trying to see if they will choose to do it early and we can get the $1000.00 match on it. I hope so, as it really will make a big difference by doing it now.

WOW! $900 and I'm sure it's just going really high. That's an amazing turnout for only a couple of hours yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who has donated, either here or elsewhere!

I'm afraid I already donated a substantial amount to the Red Cross Tues AM (I pass their headquarters on my daily walk so dropped in with a check in my pocket) and have also been adding 10% to my grocery bill at Publix. I dropped off all of my hurricane food and water supplies to my local fire station yesterday (another relief group is heading over today; the first group gave most of their supplies away) and replenished them at Publix. (giving another donation,of course :animwink: )

However, this is a wonderful idea, Gordon. :sohappy:

I told my mom to take a $50 from my wallet and donate it to the Canadian Red Cross (proceeds are going to Katrina victims), but I don't know if she actually did it. She was donating today, so I really hope she did.

Completely random, but how 'bout an official name for the fundraiser? Like "Winds of Change"? You could have that hurricane symbol (circle with 2 curves extending outward) as a logo, but with a heart replacing the eye.

I'm sending pet food with my former neighbor when he gets to go back to Biloxi. I've been in tears over hearing about the pets. I've been giving my own pets so many hugs.

I've been trying to think of what to do for my former neighbor as well. He's lost everything. Didn't even have time to pack. He had to work right up until the last min. (sand bags and stuff0, so all he has left is what was already in his car. A pair of shorts, a t-shirt, and fishing poles.

I saw that they relocated the dolphins to a swimming pool. I saw sea lions, but I'm not sure where they were from. One was in a pool, and one they weren't able to rescue (and I never figured out why not). Othere than that, I haven't heard or seen anything.

I am the Director of Technology at a school in CT and we have started taking up a collection that will be given to help restart schools in the area.

We normally donate our used computer equipment to a group that refurishes them and provides them to needy families and Habitat for Humanity.

We currently have 20 workstations that were replaced by new ones that we are now working with a school organization to donate to the area when the schools get going again.
