Hurricane Katrina Emergency "Round Up" Fundraiser
petcofoundation_roundup.jpg
During an emergency "Round Up" fundraiser now through September 11, 2005, each time you make a purchase at a PETCO store, we'll ask you to Round Up your purchase to the next highest dollar - and we will donate that difference to the PETCO Foundation. All proceeds go to the PETCO Foundation to support animal welfare disaster relief needs within the Gulf Coast region. Or make an online donation to the PETCO Foundation now.

The Round Up fundraiser may be extended depending on the need and the amount raised. The PETCO Foundation has already provided more than $100,000 worth of assistance to animal welfare agencies in the wake of last year's hurricanes. The PETCO Foundation assists with Disaster Response teams from the Humane Society of the United States and the American Humane Association to address the critical animal needs created by the recent weather events. Together we will make a difference.

What a great idea! And it's so simple, who WOULDN'T do it? All those "round-ups" add up. We're in need of cat food this week... looks like PETCO gets our business this time!

we were in petsmart yesterday, and they are also doing a money drive for the animals affected in the hurricane!

and now that i say that, a LOT of stores we went to yesterday had some kind of fund set up, or some kind of reminder to donate to the red cross or salvation army. it seems as though everyone is getting involved.

I just bought my ticket for the event... if anyone is gonna be in Orlando, there is no reason not to go. Every cent from ticket sales and bar sales goes to the hurricane victims, and it's gonna be a good time for all that go there. Everyone wins on this one.
rob, have fun at the show...... i wish i could be there; for the cause and for a VR show. please give me a show report either by PM or you could do it on this thread........ set list would be killer.

thanks

one more thing..... it was killing me last week as well to see all the animals, especially the wildlife in Gulfport, dolphins and sealions

I'm just saying it's better to do something direct yourself to the charity of your choice and be assured every penny goes to your charity.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear about the PayPal fees, so I'll just restate it again for you so you have an understanding of exactly what I'm doing.

You are correct that all donations being donated via PayPal will have fees deducted from them.

However, as I've stated before and will be happy to state as many times as possible for people to comprehend,

If any of you are concerned about the fees being deducted from your donations, I am matching all fees PayPal deducts so what you donate is what the Red Cross will get. However, I would also urge you to donate in whatever manner you feel comfortable.

Let's not quibble over who to give donations to. All that matters is that you give. We're close to $3000 in donations folks so let's try and spread the word. I've taken checks from coworkers who are donating via our fund and I know many of you have also directed friends and family towards our fundraising drive to contribute via PayPal.

Thank you so much for all that you are doing. I would like to state that I will be happy to help out as much as possible with the fees as well in order to make sure everything that is donated gets to the people that need it.

I THINK THAT SHOULD PRETTY MUCH COVER THAT ISSUE.....

Guys... lay off MissM. She has expressed a concern that others have. Ultimately, it's your money, give it to whome you feel safe giving it to.

That being said.... I'm feeling very tempted right now to go to New Orleans and rescue some pets. I love animals, and seeing the pictures of the dogs suffering is causing me more heartache than I have ever felt... I need to do something

Awww Rob that is so sweet. I'd love to do the same thing. I haven't been following the aftermath on the tv but I read an article on Cnn the other night about people having to leave their pets behind and I started bawling like a baby. It breaks my heart to hear about it. If I was forced to make the decision to leave my pets behind and evacuate, I'd have to choose stayin with my pets. I have a big heart and I just couldn't live with myself knowing I left my babies behind to starve and die lonely like that. I'd end up killin myself because the image would haunt me for the rest of my life.

Alright,

Jmaxwell... show report.

Velvet Revolver is amazing live.... the show was a bit short (It started late a 9 and I was out by 10:30), but the energy between the band and audience was very good. They did the mandatory Velver Revolver songs, and threw in some STP, Pink Floyd, and AC/DC covers. All of the proceeds from the Tickets and Bar tabs (tips included), went to the American Red Cross, so that was a good cause... and it was just a badass show.

The reason they did this show was because they were supposed to play the opening of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi.... which isn't going to happen anytime soon unfortunately.

Good show, and all of you should have gone ;)

Things to note.... Scott Weiland is a skinny ! And Slash is just cool

That is a show I definitely would have liked to have seen! Glad you had fun- and all for a good cause of course. :)

that is killer about the tips went to the cause as well. that is some serious cash. i figured STP covers but Floyd and AcDc covers, wow. that is cool.

Slash is just plain cool. nuff said. i have a friend that looks identical, well, a little more fare skinned. it is fun in public.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share something to get a feel for a group conscience. After all the posts questioning our motives, and now someone has posted a link to a group that did something similar to us but PayPal has frozen their account, I'm thinking maybe we should call an end to the fundraising by Saturday the 10th instead of the 17th.

I still think it's a great idea, and the fact that so many people donated is a testament to the good will with which we started this drive. However, if the questions raised gives anyone pause or second thoughts, I would be happy to suspend our drive either immediately or by this Saturday the 10th.

If you do not feel comfortable sharing your thoughts publicly, please feel free to contact me via PM.

Thank you.

I have no problem with our current plan to go to the 17th. I do not see us raising that sort of money. However, I am more than willing to go along with whatever everyone else decided.
Again, thanks for taking the time to put this all together for us.

Of course there's no question that your motives are anything but the best, Gordon! As Mad already said, thank you for making this fundraiser a reality. I have no problem with continuing until the 17th, but if you are more comfortable with ending it sooner, that is fine with me.

You're the best, Gordon.

Gordon, thanks for setting up an umbrella account for WDWMagic contributions! While I'm somewhat tardy in making a donation, hopefully PayPal did the right thing and it has been received! :)
