You guys are awesome...the Mississippi Gulf Coast is destroyed but luckily my house was spared...just a little water damage and trees down. I am at the local radio station where my dad does the weather reports...they have a generator and internet access. Your donations will help all of the people that have lost their homes. Thank you

Glad you are okay.

I just returned from Biloxi. We were handing out food, ice and water my company had donated. In all we had 13 pallets of ice and 9 or 10 pallets of water. The food was carried over in our personal vehicles....our convoy was 6 personal vehicles, 1 semi, and 1 police escort.

The people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast have been aboslutely devistated and need everything all of us can spare.

I was completely unprepared for what I saw today. These people have lost everything they own.

In one Section 8 housing devlopment we visited the water had completely soaked everyones 1st floor. During the storm they were telling us they had to retreat to the second floor to escape drowning. The storm surge was >12 ft in this location and we were several miles from the shoreline.

I am sorry I am rambling here or a bit disconnected, but please understand what I saw today was an absolute nightmare.

Please donate to this most worthly cause until it hurts. If not here then directly through the Red Cross or Salvation Army. I personally witnessed a large presence of Salvation Army vehicles in the area ready to cook for the good people of Biloxi. I know our donations are making a difference, I saw it with my own eyes.

Thanks for the info. I have to say that I'm very disappointed in the media coverage and some of the leaders that only complain. It seems that the storm victims have taken 2nd or 3rd place to the "blame game" going on by a vocal few. There are people affected by this storm over a 90,000 square mile area and the relatively small percentage of whiners is getting the coverage.

There are MANY people of all races, creeds and colors affected and the race card that some are trying to play will negatively affect the perception that many kind and generous Americans have. Remember there are THOUSANDS of displaced and affected people that have not turned to violence and are waiting patiently for the aid to roll in. It's a huge logistical nightmare to move the amount of food, water and fuel into those areas and so many people are working extremely hard to help. Stop and think of the amount of fuel being used by all the military and civilian vehicles. Think of the fuel that is required to keep the helicopters flying in and dropping supplies and rescuing people.

Contact your state and federal representatives and let them know that the blame game can wait. Let them know that you appreciate the hard work of those involved. I feel so sorry for the men and women who have toiled since day one and yet their efforts are being minimalized by the vocal naysayers that says people are not doing enough. We have teams from our area that have been in the affected regions for days and they have worked hard. They need to hear the appreciation of the masses and not the whining of the few.

Let's take the politics of the momment out of this situation and get back to working to alleviate the suffering. Let's stop and think about the logistics involved in helping those that are hurting. Let's make it known to the news media that we want them to stop with the blame game. If you know someone that is helping out, let them know that we appreciate their hard work.

Just an example of what I'm asking... One of the networks interviewed a MS guardman in charge of a convoy. All they kept asking was why it was taking so long to get in and help. He finally got fed up and just told them like it was. He was in charge of a company that was moving 75 vehicles containing personnel and supplies to the region. They couldn't find enough fuel to keep the convoy moving. He worked for 24 hours straight trying to get the logistics in order to get fuel to the convoy so they could get in and help people. There's no power in those areas, no fuel deliveries, no basic infrastructure to support the ones that are helping. Anything they need has to be brought to the region.

Is Jennifer S me?

She is my partner, but I used her account to make a donation. :)

Gulfport...This is the first time I have been on this site since the hurricane and I'm not sure about other members...I hope they are ok too.. I wanted to visit this site to feel a little more normal because I used to almost every day. Once I get power I'll be able to do it from home. Thanks for your concern.

Glad to hear you are OK! Help is on the way!!!

In our little upstate New York community, fundraising is in full swing, and direct, immediate financial support is already being sent where it is needed most. I know that this effort is being duplicated across America. Wannab@dis is right - the blame game can be saved for another time. National efforts need to focus on immediate relief to those who need it.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for the clearer head and more eloquent dialouge. Please understand I was very upset when I posted last night.

Ahhh...that explains it then. I saw your post about making a contribution, but I didn't see a transaction from pounds to dollars like some other contributions from England. PM me her last name and I'll confirm it for you. Thank you!!

As a Louisiana native, thank you so much for doing this. I have donated a lot of my time (and socks) to one of many local shelters in my area. I have met the people directly affected, such as the homeless, and they are in need of anything they can get. Many people are still sleeping on blankets on the floor. Some people do not have enough diapers for their babies. Please donate all you can, and thank you for giving all that you have.

I already sent in a check to Red Cross, but after reading the accounts of all that's happened and how much they need, I think I can definately give more. My paypal account is in the process of being confirmed, so just give me a few days.

Thank you. I know we've been saying "Every little bit helps" but after spending the entire day watching coverage and reading the weekly reports, I have to amend that saying to "Every little bit more helps." Thanks everyone!!
