ummm.. advice needed. A swing arm gate dropped on my car today. There's no damage on my car, but the swing arm gate is.. well, trashed.

I opened the gate as normal, I didn't run it.

Who's responsible for this?

Was it a pay gate? If so, you should have a receipt or be able to get one (If you paid with a card). This should be enough to show proof that you actually paid for the gate to go up...

You're not responsible for it...unless you can't prove that you paid for it...and then it's questionable.

Rob.. you know the parking garage by my old office, downtown? You've been in it. Anyway.. one of the gates dropped on my hood one night... and there is still a 2-3in scratch on my hood from that :brick: :brick:

And this was like 2-3 years ago.

It was the gate to enter my neighborhood. Swingarm opens, then the big gate right behind it opens. I had the button pressed down to open it, and the swingarm lifted. It just dropped while I was still in it.

I would say your neighboorhood assoc. (or whatever governing body you may have) is resposible for it then. :shrug:

Sweet! I remember you mentioning that, now that I think about it! How much of discount can you get?

My dealer is honoring the $3000 Loyal Owner Discount...but other discounts apply too (if you graduated within the year, military, etc.) I'm not sure what the discount for being an employee/relative of an employee is.

This isn't across the board though. Some dealers will honor it and others won't. (Just like some dealers are putting dealer markups on the vehicles and others aren't.)

The SuperBowl actually pushed me over that teetering edge. I won a decent amount on a football square :lol:

I think they started yesterday...(this is where those V6's that are going on display at the dealerships are coming from). Yesterday dealers had to put in their orders for the first few...not their entire allocation. I'm assuming these are the cars for those orders.

I'm putting my order in on Saturday.

I have a feeling the Chevy Orlando will sell.

Well, I did it. I put the deposit down and put my pre-order in. They send it off to GM on Monday and on Thursday GM pulls the allocations. I probably won't receive the car until July so it's going to be a LONG wait.

March 16th is the 1st day of actual production. I am #5 at the dealership. (All 5 of us are SS's). I've been reading that a good way to "gauge" when you're going to get yours... If you are getting an SS...each dealership will get one per month. That puts me at July (if it goes in earlier...but as late as August).

Also, GM will decide which vehicle order to go in...not necessarily the order you bought the car. If my car seems like it will fit on the line easier than another (for instance, if it's at a time where they are running like colors...they'll pick mine before another color.)

I'm very excited and it came out cheaper than I was planning on! Before any rebates or discounts, it came to $36,500.

Not too shabby for a fully loaded V8 pumping out 426 horses and Brembo brakes!

that's what I think. Too little, too late. If they want to change the opinions of consumers, they need to trump the imports, not just match them.

No, not necessarily. They can match the imports...as long as the price is significantly lower.

G8 trumps the 5-series in most reviews. Price is lower...but the word hasn't got out to the masses yet. It needs an AWD version too. (Possibly a Diesel).

I disagree. They have to trump their competition (the imports) at a lower price point to sway consumer opinion. Then gradually raise prices. IE- They have to pull a Hyundai. If they only match the imports, then the price difference better be huge. They need to have VW interiors and drive quality with Honda reliability for Kia prices if they want to compete now.

Also, does GM have a sufficiently refined diesel in its lineup that's US legal? The G8's a performance sedan, and I'd be scared of an oil burner that's not refined enough to keep the performance at par with the 5 series diesel.

As for the lack of G8's... that seems to me like a marketing problem and nothing more. I have not yet seen an ad ANYWHERE for the G8. If they're trying to sell a product, they have to let the public know it's out there, and there's more to that than just a few reviews.

Imagine for a moment hitting pavement - with no shirt - at 50 MPH or more. I did it with a heavy jacket, and it tore that apart. If I had done it without a shirt, my skin would have been taken right off.
