I see a problem with this though...

Won't it eat away sales of the Cobalt SS?

Watered Down? At 310hp...that is more than the current Mustang GT isn't it?

If I were Bob Lutz, and I had something like this, I'd kill the Cobalt SS (we don't need no front wheel drive "performance cars".

. . . but I just had a thought. . . it is April 1st, is someone pulling a fast one on us?

Ummm EEeeeeeewwwww!!

Agreed... my dad had one...lol :o

Cool link! Not the greatest car in the world, but it still brings back memories.

About what? The 4 cylinder Camaro has been tossed around for a few weeks now. The whole "April Fools" thing could be that they are already testing one...but I don't think the story of the 4 cylinder is one.

I found doubt at first about them testing one because they don't even have a test mule for the convertible yet. Why would they have a test mule for a car that's coming out 9 months AFTER the convertible?

I then DIDN'T doubt it because the current mules have a V6 and V8's in them. So, there may be no need to have a test mule for the convertible...but would need one for the 4 cylinder.

My feeling is that the body will remain the same...there will be a turbo 4 banger...it will be lighter...but it won't get 310hp. It'll probably be the same engine that's in the Solstice GXP on the Zeta platform. (I really can't see them making a different body)

I know that Ford is making a new Mustang and you can guarantee it'll have more than 300hp because there is no way they are going to sit back while it's biggest competitor's V6 (let alone inline 4) gets the same hp. (Hehe, even though the Camaro will basically have 200 horsepower more than you will even need).

It wouldn't be a particularly good April Fools gag if it is one, and I'm probably just being paranoid, but a few points that would make me question it:

1. The use of the name "Monza"
2. The "overboost turbo" sounds like it could be a joke.
3. The detail of the report seems a little overdone for a rumor.
4. The photo looks like it might be photoshopped.

. . . if it is an April Fools joke, it's not a great one because it's not a real stretch . . . but if it is a joke, the person pulling it may have done that intentionally to make it more believable.

I don't know, but it's gotten to the point that everybody is trying to pull something on April Fools, so you never know what to believe.

I hope it's real, because it sounds like something I'd be interested in, but I'm just wondering if it's all just a joke.

Wow! This is not an April fools joke, but remember this post I did a while back?

On the motorycle front, Buell just had some interesting results at Hockenheim Germany. They didn't win, but two privateer teems took 2nd and 5th place in a 1000 km race against Ducati 1098s, Aprilias and some factory supported BMW HP2's and factory supported KTM RC8's. It looks like the US finally has a world-class sport-bike.

I just found out that two other Buell 1125R's ran in another big European endurance race over the weekend (Le Mans Pro-Twins) and out of a field of the best bikes in the world (including several Ducati 1098R's - that's Ducati's brand new $40,000 homologation Superbike - generally regarded as the best, fastest bike this side of a Moto-GP bike), and the Buells came in 2nd and 4th.

I'm not really sure I can explain the significance of that if you don't follow motorcycles and motorcycle racing, but it's pretty huge.

I'm walking on air right now!

Check this out Brian. Motortrend is reporting the Ecotec in the Solstice could get bumped to 300 HP.

That's not only great for my Solstice, but it adds some credibility to the Camaro rumor we were just discussing:

NICE! "Z Killer?" The Z doesn't have the turbo lag.

While I think that article probably was just an April Fool's Joke...and the picture probably photoshopped, I do believe that it was based on some fact. I don't think it would be far off from the 310hp.

It'll be interesting to see what the next gen Z can do. I've been watching the Solstice coupe and Z rumors very closely and there's a good chance one of those two will be my next car.

Against the current Z, a more powerful Solstice coupe would be a very interesting rival. The extra weight of the Z could allow a more powerful Solstice to beat it.

But the rumors are the next gen Z will be losing some weight and gaining some power.

I'd expect when both new cars are out, they'll still match up similarly to how they do now: The Z will be the more serious performer while the solstice will be a little more 'fun' while still being a decent performer. The Solstice is also likely to remain a better bargain with a loaded version topping out at $30,000 while the Z will likely climb close to $40,000 with some options.

I had been hoping the Solstice would be a true coupe and offer a more rigid body, but I'm starting to like the compromise of the targa top.

I'm very anxious to see the next Z. Rumors are it will be unveiled in fall. At this point, I think the Solsice is in the lead, but that's largely because we don't know anything about the new Z yet.

As for the 'Monza', are you thinking that was just an April fools? Have there been any additional post April 1st comments on the Camaro sites you visit? I was hoping it might be real, and I thought these new engine comments might have backed it up.

I'm almost positive that the 4 banger turbo will come to see the light...I don't foresee a "smaller/shorter" Camaro body housing it though.

The Z4 rumors are getting downright sexy

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/07/next-generation-bmw-z4-to-get-folding-hard-top-possibly-m3s-v8/

On the Z - Nissan learned their lesson last time on price creep. I see the Z price point staying down at the cost of performance. Plus they have the GT-R for the performance fiend. The Z will get HP bumps to stay competitive with the HP wars but I don't see it becoming exotic to drop weight and become some 400hp monster.

I've been following the Z4 very closely. I'm not a fan of either hard-top convertibles or V8's, but it sounds like it will at least be available with the 6's.

I'm concerned that German production will drive price up - as will the hard-top.

Since they're likely to go with the folding hard-top, I doubt they'll keep the true coupe . . . which may encourage me to snap up one of the last true coupes.
