Here's a really interesting one. Tesla is suing Fisker because he did work for them and (according to them) "stole" design elements (and used the best ones for his car).

When you're talking about design, how do you define it and say who owns what? It's not like technical elements where you can patent a type of valve arrangement.

I've always liked Fisker's designs, but I've also thought they tend to be very similar to one another. If this suit is successful, what does that imply? What happens when one designer goes from company A to company B? Can company A prevent him from designing anything because he would be using 'their' designs?

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out:

It's a little hard to see through the camoflauge, but they've retained the one thing I've always hated - the ridge that runs from the door handle up and along the edge of the front fender. That line has always made the front end seem oversized and takes away from the classic powerful rear and small front I like in most performance cars.

They have counteracted it a bit with the ridge midway down the door that seems to have a downward slope. Overall, the car should look better (and it looks like the took away that other goofy line that made the car look so much like a ).

It's simple.. work done as a contractor is typically owned by the employer. If the work is an extension of the work originally done as the employee or contractor they will say the designs are theirs and proprietary. Information and designs that are not publicized are highly defendable. It's important because that type of information becomes the basis of patents, copyright, etc.
