I'm digging the Riviera. I LOVE THAT LEXUS TOO!!!

The Mitsu...eh...looks like a fancy drawing that'll look pretty cool and over the top in concept form...but fall WAY short when it hits the streets.

Well I'm trying to remain optimistic. They've got a great platform with the EVO, but I'm not a fan of boxy four-door sedans.

It makes sense that they could put a real sports car on that platform with less weight and a lower center of gravity than the EVO. Sell it for roughly $30,000, and the 350Z could have some serious competition.

I've never had a problem with the looks of the Eclipse. But the performance never matched the looks. And from what I've heard of this new concept, they basically used and EVO platform, so while the concept has a diesel (that likely won't make it to production soon) a production coupe based on the EVO could be brought to market relatively quickly if they decide to.

And the actual concept doesn't look that outrageous. Looks like it could be fairly close to production now:

Remember, the Volt had a concept that looked like it was close to production...and then BLECH.

I see that car coming with the front end similar...but severely toned down. No LED lights for headlamps...rounder...and the rear being redone completely. I see the back glass going further towards the rear of the car minimizing the rear decklid. Also, the fender flares will be toned down with rounder corners rather than the sharp lines.

Basically take the Lancer front...add a hood scoop...and bring the lines back similar to the way the Altima Coupe is. It'll be a lot sportier looking than the EVO...but not as outrageous and nice as that concept.

Sounds good to me.

I'd be interested if it looked like a block of cheese. It's not like we have a lot of all-wheel drive, 300 HP, light-weight, $30,000 coupes now.

 Good point!

BTW...That CTS Coupe... I think I need to change my pants. This car just went on the top of the list for me. Jerry, you must get one. Heck, I may even get one  (Will the CTS-V Coupe be priced lower or higher than the sedan?)

I'm guessing (if they follow the lead of BMW) the coupe will be a little higher priced.

It looks shorter than the sedan to me. Is that just an illusion from the shape of the bodywork (probably), or did they actually shorten the frame some?

It definitely looks as though they shortened it...but it could just be an optical illusion.

Great, now we need to see the two side by side

Ok... I am very impressed... VERY!

It has exceeded all of my expectations by 1,000 fold!

I am just looking over everything about this car at Autoblog right now... trying to absorb all this... lol.

One thing... Lutz just needs to approve this for production... and I'm in! I'll be the first in line to factory order this thing. :slurp:

BTW... from the press release:

...."it has the same wheelbase as the CTS, but an overall height that is approximately four inches (101 mm) short"

Although based on the sedan, the CT Coupe shares only the instrument panel, console, headlamps, front fenders and grille with the production model. Unique elements include:

-Classic hardtop styling, with no B-pillar
-CTS production windshield laid at a faster angle to create a sleeker profile
-Chrome, split seven-spoke wheel design; 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels
-Sculpted lower front fascia with unique brake-cooling vents
-Slim-profile outside mirrors
-XLR-type hidden door handles with proximity remote opening
-Unique front fender vents
-Diamond-cut rear fascia with mesh lower grilles and center-outlet exhaust
-Taillamps with a subtle fin profile and are highlighted with LED lighting technology with light pipes
-Rear spoiler integrated into the center high-mounted stop lamp
-Sculpted roof-mounted antenna for OnStar, XM Satellite Radio, etc.

Cool. That answers that question.

As for production, I'd bet that's already been approved and is in the planning stages. This doesn't look like a concept. It's probably similar to what BMW did with the X6.

Well... remember the UAW contract I dug up a few months ago?

It said that its slated for production in Lansing, MI in late 08- mid 09-ish.. so lets just hope it stays on track. The next stages are test mules & production prototype (however, that will go rather quickly.. given the availibity of already exsisting base CTS parts & engine -- but the diesel is still in dev stage). So if that holds true... we should see those (mules & production prototype) within the next 6 months *fingers crossed*

Well the longer they wait, the more time you have to save up and look forward to it, right?

Exactly! I still owe on mine... but its 2/3rds paid for. So by the time I am done paying off mine... I can chill for a bit... and save up for a decent down payment on the Coupe. Plus... I have a boatload of GM rewards cash, so that will help. So it works out rather well to my advantage. :) I'll keep my sedan.. since the trade in wont be worth much by that time anyway.. and use that to putz around in, in the snow and crap. But I will still use the Coupe as my daily driver as well. :)

As your username would suggest. :D

In other news, the winner of the "Favourite NAIAS Car I'll Never Be Able To Buy" award goes to the Mazda Furai. :dazzle:

Well, it's certainly different...

I'm not sure if I want to like it or want to poke my Furai's out.

I like the general shape of it, and would love to see them actually release something like that as a production car.

Don't know what they were thinking when they went with the headlights that look like something VERY un-mentionable.:lookaroun

. . . unfortunately, the only thing we'll likely see in a production car are the headlights that look like something very un-mentionable.

^Apparently the "Furai" part means something like "Sound of the Wind". The exhaust is... well, not silent as the wind, but it has that "Whoo Whoo" sound when you rev it. (No, not like a train. )
