I completely understand Disney's point here. If the pictures are of "backstage", they have every right to protect their image. Anything "onstage" is fair game as it is open to the public in general.
Although I don't completely agree with the broad net Disney has cast over employees here, I do feel that I understand why. It seems that it is a means to protect the company from occurrences like what happened in Paris (and possibly in other Disney parks) by cast members acting in an "unprofessional" manner (to say the least). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8iK12baYFM
However I don't agree with punishing or removing the privileges of all just to suppress the actions of a few. The broad net just seems like the lazy way of dealing with an internal problem.

Without knowing exactly what the policy is firsthand, there's no way to know how broad the net is for sure. Makes for a lively debate, but we really don't have the facts.

I contend that there is a difference between photos taken OF backstage and photos taken backstage. I can take a photo of Spaceship Earth or MK Fireworks from backstage to get a different angle. But I'm not photographing what backstage looks like.

Cast members act inappropriately and unprofessional sometimes in costume and in character costume. That is a way to burn off steam. Videotaping it or photographing it happens. The error comes when you post it somewhere for others to see. Something like that video is the extreme, but you can get in trouble for having Ariel visit Cinderella in the Castle suite and sit in the bathtub. There is a fine line here.

Without knowing exactly what the policy is firsthand, there's no way to know how broad the net is for sure. Makes for a lively debate, but we really don't have the facts.

And that is the issue. Where does that fine line start and end?

Anyhow, we are getting off topic. Let's see more beautiful photos. My battery charger for my new old camera has arrived and I'm ready to start having fun with a portable camera.

Rules change. I took those photos when it was ok to do so...as did many others. Now we can't. To try and make sense out of Disney rules...well that is for others much more convoluted than I am. However, I am reminded of the quote: "A camel is a horse built by a committee."

I'm looking forward to posting some more fun photos soon. I've purchased a portable camera and will be able to take some more fun photos with it...as long as there are no character integrity issues.

However, Disney has set it up so that if they want to get rid of someone for little things they can. There is a new sign going up near all of the entertainment "break rooms": "Employees shall not engage in unauthorized personal photography in or about the Walt Disney World Resort." Well that casts a wide net. Technically if I come to the park as a guest and take a photo of my family in front of the Hat, I've broken the rules. So, who knows?

I'm confused. What does that mean?

ENJOY your trip! As someone who does a lot for these forums (in my opinion), you deserve a great WDW experience. I look forward to the trip report!

Thank you so much!!! I hope to! :) And you can bet they'll be a TR on the way.

Only 5 more days until I'm at Pop. Are you attending WWW?

No...unfortunately I'm not. I have to leave the day before the event really gets started. (I leave on Thurs.) I am however getting in a few last visits to the Adv. Club though, but I come home before the club officially closes. But it looks like our trips will overlap a tiny bit...so look for me in the "Be Our Guest Podcast" shirt...it's the podcast I co-host.

I know that's COP, but i'll be damned if that doesn't look like a 70's era Burt Reynolds :ROFLOL:

OMG!!! Quote of the day, right there!!!

I certainly will. So, if some strange woman is staring at your chest in an attempt to read your shirt, just say, "Imamouse?"

I'm also going to the AC at least once (the 25th). I'll be on property for closing night, but I think I'll resist the urge to be crushed to death and stay away. If we don't bump into each other - I hope you have a very magical time .

Same to you!!!

And enjoy the Adv. Club! I can't imagine how crazy it's going to be closing night. Probably a good thing you aren't going then. That whole next week should probably be pretty crazy. And yet, Disney doesn't think the club generates money...
