WDW: Magic Kingdom - Skyway Update

Reality TV is a horrible plague. It's even infected Cartoon Network now and it's just awful. At least the ratings for that whole CNReal initiative are awful enough they'll scrap the whole thing by the end of the year.

Also Animaniacs, where do you get off comparing Meet the Robinsons to reality TV? Your whole post is absolutely cruel, but that's the worst thing of all.

You are exactly right.....after "Who wants to marry a Millionaire", then they came out with "Who wants to marry a Midget", I said TV has fallen to an all time low..........:hurl:

I knew my post would cause some havoc! :drevil:

Good to see Servo has some taste in sci-fi. ;)

What makes me loathe MTR so much is that it is a Disney movie, and Disney movies regardless of quality have some redeeming features but they didn't exist at all in MTR. Heck even Danny Elfman's music was forgettable, and that's really sad. Had it been done by another company I would have just dismissed it as a poor imitation of the Disney product, but the fact that it came from inside Disney and after all the revision shows that it probably was not a good idea to do at all. At least with Chicken Little I can pretend that it wasn't Disney, but the Walt quote at the end of MTR seems like a slap in the face to the fans who may have cringed at the "Todayland" joke for example (which ironically is what Disneyland's Tomorrowland is going back to). Time will tell if it will create a cult following like Newsies (which did almost immediately after it's first video release and has grown exponential since) but it's not looking good for MTR now (for example, Treasure Planet has more the twice the number of images related to it on DeviantArt and a better RT rating) and if it doesn't I won't be surprised in the least.

As for comparing it to Reality TV, I could have compared it to HSM or Mannequin and the point would have been relatively the same. Just because someone likes it, doesn't mean it's good, let alone good enough to be featured in a Disney attraction that has gone 45 years without a character tie-in.

Except kids ARE NOT WATCHING these cheap attempts of Cartoon Network's to get ratings.
Also, Dexter, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Ed Edd and Eddy, Courage and a bunch of other shows were MUCH better then Nick's old lineup.

DUDE, grow up. Those are kids shows. When I was a kid I didn't care about some networks trying to get ratings. Whatever entertained you entertained you, that's all. Reality TV is just that REALITY. Not something scripted. It's just reality. Big Brother and Survivor must be the most blandest concepts for a show, but when you add the people factor things get more entertaining. Like what you like, but don't say reality TV is a plague. That's like saying "I hate humans beings together, EW GROSS." BTW, all those shows were on when I was a kid. I thought they were all really stupid and not funny. Sort of pot-humorish, but made just for kids.

But come on, get with it. Get back on topic.

What has happened to the FL skyway building?

serious thread drift....

back to the original topic.

I think the second floor of the skyway station is too small for a table service location, but it could be converted to a really cool ice cream parlor with a futuristic theme.

Clearly you just let the godawful advertising help influence your views. Despite the craziness of the second act, movie still has better character development and heart then the few Disney movies that came before. Had some great voice acting, the Danny Elfman score was fantastic. I can't believe you let a simple 3 second gag like Todayland get you riled up. Grow up.

Yeah, but ones well written enough to appeal to those outside the kids demographic. Also, I can't believe you'd dismiss Samurai Jack so quickly. Like I said, someone's in the Age Ghetto. And you're on a board about a theme park DEDICATED to animated characters supposedly "Just for kids". You may as well turn in your badge and your gun.

I'm actually more interested in theme parks rather than just Disney animated characters. Sure, Disney is classic and most movies are fit for all age groups, but I don't come here to talk about that. I really love to hear about all the rumors going around and seeing concept art for rides/shows/ect. It has always been a dream of mine to design rides like that. But hey, nice try.

Just don't go around pushing people's Berserk Buttons in regards to animation. Saves you a lot of trouble considering there ACTUALLY ARE people who take animation seriously, even the stuff "supposedly" just for kids.

No, that's just assumption on your part.

Opinion that shows little to back it up. There were no character arcs in Brother Bear or Treasure Planet, and why was MTR better? Better than the played for (lousy) laughs development of the villain who could never be taken seriously under any context or made sympathetic because he was always made out to be pathetic in his over-the-top attitude and the childish "he likes girly stuff/acts girly" humor. It works for Spongebob because he looks cute when he's doing it, for a Snidely Wiplash knockoff it just looks creepy.

Had some great voice acting, the Danny Elfman score was fantastic. I can't believe you let a simple 3 second gag like Todayland get you riled up.

I never said it did, and again you use opinion to back up nothing. Why is the voice acing great? As for Danny's score all you need to do is listen to the breakfast machine theme from ______ Wee's Big Adventure, Nightmare Before Christmas' song score, Corpse Bride's piano duet, Oingo Boingo's "Weird Science" etc. to know what his kind of memorable music is. Robinsons was not as there is nothing I can remember about it.

A childish comment that shows a "I can't be bothered to explain my opinion" tone. As if I should change my opinion because you use a third-rate, overused put down or the fact that you never bothered to attack any specific point and just labeled my post as "wordswordswords", as if yours was any better.

Back on topic, didn't the Skyway already have a gift shop of food outlet in it? Does a kitchen still exist and can it be modernized? I say it should because the more food outlets the better, even if it just served ice cream (might make lines shorter at the Plaza...might).

Can we just come to a compromise that Meet the Robinsons, heck, the BULK of the Disney movies made in the last 10 years are pretty much Your Mileage May Vary?

I'm willing to stop if Animaniacs apologizes for having gone to far. Saying you don't like something is perfectly fine, but a whole ESSAY on why something that's got a Fresh Tomatometer rating and a slowly growing cult following is apparently the satanic baby of Michael Eisner and Paul Pressler is just cruel and wrong.

If I was to be condemned for writing long essays talking a stance against Popular or even Cult properties, I'd be in a keyless jail my friend. Tis' the nature of the Geeky beast!

I would here like to point out my extreme dislike for Meet the Robinsons and I strongly wish it never appears in a Disney park ever.

Typically I'm one to defend lesser known Disney titles if they present a good opportunity for theme park recognition but MTR was by far the worst Disney released animated movie I've ever seen (and I've seen Chicken Little) and one I'm glad I didn't pay to see.

Horrendously unfunny (saying something faster does not mean it's funnier), sappy, mindless and with lackluster animation it made Don Bluth's Thumbelina look like Fantasia by comparison. The end Walt quote added only insult to injury to an animated film that had none of the lasting qualities of the companies previous animated features and played like a mindless Nickelodeon imitation of one. Pure, undiluted garbage was what it was and the following critic snippets say it the best:

"Meet the Robinsons is surely one of the worst theatrically released animated features issued under the Disney label in quite some time"
A. O. Scott, New York Times

"The fact is Meet the Robinsosn is a mess -- a sometimes fun but mostly frustrating mess"
Frank Swietek Premier Magazine

"Meet the Robinsons is a mess and a sadistically uninspired one at that"
Brian Orndorf Ohmynews.com

"Zippy if forgettable"
Dennis Lim Los Angeles Times

"Succumbs to the now standard overcaffeinated approach to storytelling that relies too much on rollercoater thrills to stop the kids from fidgeting"
Ian Johns Times (UK)

"A Cartoon that is busy and frenetic yet has little actually going on"
Kirk Honeycutt Hollywood Reporter

"Meet the Robinsons has six writers credited to a picture that maybe has five good laughs. And at least four of those writers must have had advanced cases of attention deficit disorder."
Peter Hartlaub San Francisco Chronicle

In short, please stay out of Tomorrowland Mr. Robinson, unless you feel like sweeping up garbage or flipping burgers at Cosmic Ray's.

:lookaroun I wouldn't call it worst but I would not call it best at all. I will leave that space for Atlantis, a movie that deserves a compliment.

Apologize because they hated a movie? Seriously take it to PM as this was a thread about the old Skyway building not MTR and if anyone liked it.

Also it has that awful "The Future Has Arrived" song that makes me want to rip off my ears and ride SGE 10 times over.

So while meandering through Tomorrowland last night, I have to say there is one of the most blatant cases of bad show I have ever seen in WDW.

While walking to CoP I noticed the new wall blocking where the Galaxy Palace Theater used to be, and right over it, in plain view is the unthemed back of Main Street.

And before everyone says I was looking for this, I wasn't. It was something that just caught my eye as I was walking around.

IMO this needs to be fixed ASAP.

They need to put something back there soon that'll actually block it like the old theater did. That part of Tomorrowland is so close to that backstage spot.

THink that's bad? For the 4th of July Fireworks show Disney actually let people walk back there and watch the show. I did get to see exactly where Tinkerbell landed as well as some signage from the Walt Disney story show. It was also a great place to take pictures of Backstage Tomorrowland.:D;)
