Walls are down at Space Mountain

Power washers were spotted this morning around 7:45AM when I drove past SM. They were on the top level on the south side washing the building. :)

Surely you are mistaken, or lying.

Because for the past several weeks, I've seen countless message board comments from people whining like preschoolers that the mountain would NOT be cleaned, and that TDO was too cheap, and this rehab was a failure.

I mean, people seriously invested time out of their meaningful lives, and energy out of their fingertips, to type such things criticizing the work that's being done. That's why I just cannot believe there are power washers on SM.

Because that would make many posters on these boards premature, immature, impatient, and obnoxious know-nothings.

And I refuse to believe that of my fellow Disney fan.

You, sir, must be a fraud! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the south side of the building the side that is visible from inside TL, the usual vantage point?

And isn't the location of the offending pictures which were taken from the Toontown path on the north/northwest side of the building?

This could mean they are getting ready to repaint it. They would definitely have to power wash the building before a re-painting to get all that filth off the mountain so its not combining with the paint. The ride doesn't officially open for another 10 days, correct? That seems like enough time to get a handful of guys up there to get this thing painted. But if its only a power wash then so be it. As long as the mountain looks cleaner all around, Im happy. :king:

May I add my two cents, dollar coins, half dollars, and $2 bills to this discussion again? (No Expo you can't! :lookaroun)

I have only ridden WDW's Space Mountain. I have watched numerous video and looked at pictures of HK, Tokyo, Paris, and CA's Space Mountains. So this opinion will only come from (sadly) internet research.

While Paris looks to be the most elaborate and interesting to me, possibly most thrilling...It's in it's own category..in another cateogory you have..Disneyland CA style Spc Mtn's... HK comes in last place to me, with Tokyo ahead of it, and then Disneyland CA ahead of that.

WDW's Spc Mtn, like Disneyland Paris' to me, is in a whole 'nother category.

Disneyland Paris even in it's own category, to me, blows away all the other space mountains, but mind you, that's only based on the internet.
Now it looks like they are going to powerwash and repaint the mountain. Great, it was needed.

I agree with WDW1974 that there is too much "woulda coulda shoulda" with this refurb and not enough "did and done". Yes, in a perfect pre 1990s TDO world I would have loved to have seen a gutted mountain redone rollercoaster tracks, onboard audio, exterior light package, transformed queue with chrome Disneyland walls, and a new entrance building.

But again like WDW1974 said, while I am not 100% happy with this refurb, for what it could and should have been by the true Disney standard (pre 1990s')...I have to rely on my fanboy nostalgia to make some sense out of this.....I think that means TDO just brainwashed me....but anyhow... that this is the original Space Mountain and it doesn't have to copy all the other space mountains... yes we have two rollercoaster tracks from the 1970s and a queue with airport vinyl walls with outdated groovy queue music, but somehow that IS Space Mountain, that this rollercoaster on the last breath of the space age spawned the entire Space Mountain franchise and that in my little fanboy head while SOMETHING had to be done to refurb this old attraction, there is a blessing in there somewhere that some classic elements have been retained.

*runs out of thread before more west coast east coast fueds happen*

YES!

Now, paint the thing, and slap on some LIGHTS!

WOW, they could be listening! I just don't get how they can listen here, and not listen on LoW. Oh well, this ain't a bad thing. :)

EDIT: Looks windy. Hope they are careful.....and what are those black stripes around the rim? Dirt? Or wiring? :lookaroun

Thanks for posting!

So cool to see. I wonder if those two men know that they carry the hopes and dreams of literally threes of people in their power washing hands.

Such responsibility. Sadly, one has to wonder if they are using the proper PSI, and what could have been if only they had budgeted for the MR-1401 model power washer, instead of "refurbing on the cheap" and only going for the 1400.

Then we really woulda seen something....

In theming, yes. In ride quality, no. It's the worst of all of them.

Whoo!!! I knew there would be more surprises! We have a great exterior and a great queue! Let's hope we get some surprises ON the ride itself and who knows it's possible that on-ride can come in as a surprise... Unless I might have missed something...O_O

Anywho, I love these last minute surprises! Keep 'em coming TDO!

Actually, to me, it looks like the video was taken from the right side of this pic, around the SM entrance:

You can see the foreground spire & the unusual discoloration from the Toontown walkway.

Could we argue that the theme maters more in this respect, seeing that it's just like any other coaster...until you apply the THEME to it?
