Walls are down at Space Mountain

OH GOD! It looks they ripped out all of the Space Windows and replaced them with games. :fork:

That was such a unique feature unique only to Florida's Space Mountain.

I really do like the new railing and ceiling in the load room and it looks fresh and repainted...however if these interactive elements are going to play a big role in the queue than I bet we can expect the zig zag music and star tunnel music to be elimated or seriously drowned out by the sounds of guests and the sounds coming off of the monitors.

That especially...If the rest of the refurb looks like that, I'm sold.

Wait a second....perhaps not....it looks the screen is off to the side and to the front of the window in the picture...perhaps you will still be able to see them behind it. And it looks like it's only to the windows on the STANDBY side. If you see in the background, the window there looks to have a new projection on it, but no video monitor and no game buttons...you see the reflection of them in the new metal railing though.

I love this! While not as open as before, it has a sleek new look to it. :D

But the interactive part?

space2SMALL.jpg

Very interesting, since it looks like it replces the windows and that the third tunnel will not be as dark!

(Note the lighting in the background) :D

Also liking the hidden Disney references, like H-NCH 1975.

Right, I don't mean I want the same 1975 images in the window, but rather the unique effect of seeing images in space. It looks like the picture is taken looking east in the standby queue, and all the interactive games will be in the stanby queue itself, if this is the case....and they still kept the 1975 vinyl wall panneling, then I would hope the star tunnel windows and zig zag windows in the fastpass queue are saved but updated with new projections/images.

Where is that!?

And yes, MUCH sleeker. Love it. Almost Soarin' esque. REALLY hope the rest of the refurb, and the LIGHTING, turns out like this.

That type of tube lighting would be fantastic on the border of SM.

Right ala soarin' so that why would fastpassers who are making their way to the front want to stop and play games...that way disney can get them to go in the standby queue instead....and make expo happy with the preservation of the space windows at the same time. :drevil:

LOVE the new load platform.I think I see the Hilton Hotel up there with the Howard Johnson's Earthlight Room from 2001. :lookaroun

Also, notice all the speakers on the load ceiling.........some nice crisp ambient sound and space mountain comm chat? :D

From the Blog:
As you move along on your journey, there are “insider” touches typical in projects created by Imagineers. For example, if you’re up on your Disney trivia, you’ll recognize a sign bearing the logo “H-NCH 1975″ as a tribute to late Imagineer and Disney legend John Hench. There are also other “Disneyphile” references hidden throughout the attraction.

Space Mountain celebrates the Golden Age of Rocket Travel – inspired by the jet age of the early 1960s. The attraction highlights excitement around the endless possibilities regarding space travel. It did back when it opened in 1975 and I think you’ll agree it still does.

That would be amazing!!!
Perhaps finally able to perhaps clearly hear the comchat? I approve. :D

actually....if they did remove star tunnel and zig zag from the queues there's no reason why that couldn't make more some awesome ambient music in the load room where there wasn't any ambient music before.....

Also, I did hear the space station comm chat last year in the queue coming out of ONE speaker next to the mission control booth...it was drowned out by so many other sounds ...so hopefully an acustic improvement with the ceiling.

I don't know the exact space limitations, but here's a quick-and-messy diagram of how I envisioned a re-configured queue would go...

I think that's perfect. Better than the model I came up with. We'll see how it actually turns out.

I also love the new sleek look of the queue, let's hope the ride itself has improvements as well.

I'm hearing lots of "Tribute" "60's" "Retro" and "Spaceport" buzzwords. I'm hoping that other than being an excuse to leave most of it alone it's an excuse to bring back Music Makers.
