I was planning to go to disneyworld this August like we do every year but the promotion, Space mountain refurb, no E Ticket attractions, consturction it seems worth to skip 2009. Many of the disney resorts are also in the process of renovating there rooms i think most will be done by the end of 2009. I understand if your already booked or booked early 2009. Just think is it really worth your money for nothing new:shrug:

Alex, you need to go back and loot the Poly Dole Whip machine again. :D (they'll be waiting for you now. . . and they have your picture :lookaroun )

One day you may learn Walt Disney World is a great enough place just as it is, with the combination of classic attractions and the occasional new additions; that the thousands of dollars your parents shell out to take you there aren't just to experience the next big thing.

Besides, remember 2009: American IDOL! :ROFLOL:

I do not ride Space Mountain every time I go..
Construction is almost always going on and does not phase me...
We have annual passes...
My economy is good..:)...

See..the thing is..I just love being there...I love the shows and attractions but I also love the atmosphere, characters, restaurants, parades, resorts..just sitting down people watching.

I do not need any new attractions to make it better..I am sure that added attraction in the future will be enjoyable for me and my family but I enjoy the parks without them.

So, while others get upset because there are no new attractions or shows or because they cut Fantasmic or they do not have chicken strips anymore..My family and I do not need those things to make us have a great time and still keep on going.

I always have an amazing, wonderful time and just enjoy every second we are there.

How you pace the frequency of visits is up to you. I started out going once a year. After a while I got an AP with the intention of going later one February and earlier the next [to save money ], ended up going in June and August as well bcause, well I already had the AP!

This year we went in February for the end of the AP and then went again in August. In '09 I'm going solo for a weekend in Februry and taking DS in August... My plan is to go for two weeks at the end of summer '10 so we can also take in Harry Potter at USF.

Who knows after that... :animwink:

Well my family likes to one big vacation a year (8 nights) i know that does not seem that long but we only stay at the monorail resorts so i am guess 2 weeks at a value = 1 week at Poly or Grand Floridian

The new stuff is not what keeps me going back to WDW. Even if they never again added anything new, I'd keep going back as often as I could.:D

As far as rehabs, I've been there before when major attractions were closed for rehab (Spaceship Earth and POTC for example) and while I missed riding them, I knew that they would still be there next time. And there is SO MUCH to do at WDW....a few rides being down really is not that big of a deal. Yes, it can be disapointing if one of your favorites happens to be closed, but not enough to warrant not going to WDW at all because of it.

We probably will not be going in 2009, but not because we don't want too. Believe me....if there was a way we could get there in 2009, I'd already have the trip booked! I'm still hoping we can find a way to get back to WDW before March 2010....it is unlikely, but I can dream!

:shrug: One less person/family in line for me....

I went to "the world" 3x this year for various reasons (friend's bday, closing of PI, Christmastime) and I don't care if there are or aren't new attractions or if something is closed. I go because I WANT and LIKE to go. I have no desire to go anywhere else for a vacation and I'm planning on going at least 3x in 2009.

To each their own.

Ouch!

However, if you truly feel that way, then perhaps you are right to wait another year to go back. The day Disney stops being the happiest place on Earth for me will be the day I start looking at other vacation options. I know I wouldn't want to be around someone so negative in a place I still find so very magical.

I went 5 times over the course of the last years for no other reason then I could. Disney World isn't about the newest attraction or the lack of an attraction to me. Disney World is about the great memories I have from the past and forgetting the real world. Once I pass through the gates, I completely forget about everything that has been stressing me out and focus on having fun.

Disney World is amazing as is! If it never changed from this day forward, I would continue to go as often as I can financially afford to. Have fun taking your year off, I will think about you every time I pass the Poly on the monorail loop next year.

We're waiting for 2010 to go again, but not for any of the reasons you mention. We're expecting baby #2 in June, and any money that we would spend on a vacation will be spent covering the expenses pertaining to the baby. Plus, that year off will allow more time to save back a little more money to afford the Ft Wilderness Cabins (hopefully), and to allow a year's absence to make our hearts grow fonder as the saying goes.

But saying "we hope to go in April of 2010" makes it seem so far away. In only 9 more days or so, at least we can say "next year" instead, which will make it seem not so far into the future. LOL

But as for the points you made, I really don't care about those things. I feel about the way Dana feels about it. I really don't care if there are any new attractions. I'm more of a nostalgic type person anyway, so I always feel sad when they gut an attraction I'm used to and put something else in its place. Now, a brand new attraction where there wasn't one already, that's a different story. I welcomed Expedition Everest, but I mourned the demise of "El Rio del Tempo". I don't care about the construction and, while I wouldn't be thrilled about Space Mountain being down, I think I could find plenty of other things to entertain me so as to have a perfectly good time.

I love to go to Disney, even if it's just to walk around.
I plan on heading down around this time next year. The economy shouldn't really effect me, as long as I budget, I will be able to pay for my trip. (And as Horrible as it might sound) If the economy stays like this for awhile, maybe it'll cost less?
My travel partner can't ride any ride that is jarring, due to past kidney infections and stones, so if I were to ride something I'd have to leave her alone. I won't miss SM because I doubt I will be riding any ride like that this time around, but that's ok cause there is a ton of other stuff to do.

ah YES, it is worth it!!! We have annual passes and we don't need a new
attraction every time we go or mind construction projects. Last year we didn't get to go on Splash Mountain (timing) and looks like this year it will be down too (but we're still going). Its not 17 degrees there is another reason for us. We've not been hit with any 'Dreams' like so many do nor have we plans to attend on one of our birthdays. We go because its where we can slow down and not be caught up in rush hour madness at home and the non stop chores of family life...We go because its there and we love it:ROFLOL::D!

I am not quite sure how you figure that one out. No matter where you stay, 8 nights is 8 nights. You don't get any extra time to spend because you are at a monorail resort.

Is Space Mountain really that big of a deal breaker? Do you really need somthing new every year? When I was a kid we went to the same cabin on a lake in Canada every year for vacation. It NEVER changed. We looked foward to it every year because of the fun and family time we had there. Thats the same way my kids and I look foward to WDW. We will be there, in conjunction with a cruise, the end of August, and we are trying to find a slot to do a second WDW-only vacation somwhere in 2009

My husband and I love to go to WDW. We can only make it once per year because of our jobs and location. However, when we go, we like to make it a long trip. So, OP, in that regard, we are like you taking one long trip per year. I would like to take more trips, but that's not possible.

As far as new rides go, they are nice. We were there a few weeks after Everest opened. We were there a week or so after Toy Story opened. However, we were also there the summer the Haunted Mansion and SSE were closed. It's obviously better to get a new ride than to lose a favorite, but it doesn't always work that way.

No one loves Space Mountain more than me. It was the very first ride I ever experienced at the Magic Kingdom. I booked my 2009 trip with the knowledge that it will probably be closed. I'll miss the gush of air as you walk into the building from the outside, the star tunnel music (which I have on my MP3 player for those days when I miss it too much), waving at random strangers as our trains pass on the first climb, etc... However, that being said, I love Space Mountain enough to say it's better for it to be closed and miss it this year than for it to remain in the state it is. It's always the first ride I go to when the MK opens, but I'll have to rethink my plans. That's okay, though. Space Mountain's closure may give me a chance to visit attractions I haven't in a while. I always examine life as when God closes a door, He opens a window. No matter how big (like a life altering event) or small (the closure of a favorite ride), life is full of opportunity. It just depends on how you examine situations.

I understand your draw to deluxe and monorail resorts. With this great promotion, I wouldn't be so fast to snub my nose at 2009. My husband and I have stayed at everything from the All-Star Movies to the Wilderness Lodge. As long as finances permit it, we will stay at the Wilderness Lodge. However, POR is another of our favorites and we have no problem staying there if finances dictate that we do so. If the monorail resorts seem a little steep in the current economy for you, consider the WL. I actually prefer it to the monorail resorts.

I don't really like the promotion this year, but I don't care. It's not like I'll suffer because of it. Now, it if was something like "High School Musical - What Sequel Will We Make Next?" where they personally assaulted me by making me watch hours of HSM footage, I might get upset. Promos are nice for guests that benefit from them.

I also think AI will be lame. However, maybe that will make the lines shorter for Toy Story or ToT or Aerosmith. I simply won't go to it. Complaining about the lack of new attractions and bad mouthing the one they do build in the same post doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

It looks like we might be skipping WDW next year also, as DW wants to do something a little different. Though what she is suggesting is doing DL instead so it isn't completely bad.
