Virgin Megastores, including Disney location, will shut down this summer

B&N would be a good choice.. But, don't you all think Steve Jobs will force his Apple to have that space???

Apple is responsible for taking down Virgin as well as all of the other Music megastores. While a few die-hards want the tangible, the masses want the music, period. Apple could fill that space now that all of their hardware runs windows as well. They just might come up with something pretty incredible... and much closer to the Disney standard.

As Downtown Disney/PI shrinks, City Walk continues to grow

Citywalk has made some great choices as of late... the most unsuccessful part will now have a huge draw with fast food yet they did a great job of hiding the fact that it is fast food... sorta kinda. It will work however.

I think every resort should have a themed show or club. Look at how well Poly has always done with the Luau show. And hoop-dee-doo at FW. Not sure why it was not repeated at every resort. Unlimited potential there.

Of course, they can always convert those 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space into the latest concept from Schussler Creative, the proud developers of Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex Cafe...

How about... Orange County Choppers America's RoadHouse™ ?

Or the Hot Dog Hall of Fame ?

Maybe Motown Cafe wants to give it another go with West Side instead of CityWalk...

I would really prefer they stop outsourcing restaurants to companies like this one. They have some neat ideas and themes, and the food isn't horrible, but it's just not Disney. It's not unique enough. I grew up going to Disney knowing I would get to see and do things I wouldn't get to do anywhere else in the world. Now they have TWO Rainforest Cafe's. Nothing against Rainforest Cafe, they are pretty cool inside, but it's just bad show.

They already have an ESPN Zone, if they want to move it, fine, but there is no need for another one. Create a new theme for a new sports bar, fine. But please stop with all the homogeneity. Pretty soon, we won't have to go to Disney for any reason other than the attractions. We could go to the parks all day, and then go eat at Olive Garden, and watch the game at Hooters, and have a drink and play games at Dave and Busters. Stop at Best Buy for a DVD to play in my new Macbook I bought at the Apple Store, while I finish the night getting a Starbucks. Boy that sounds like a night at the mall. Not a night at Disney.

Outsourcing the food and labor doesn't bother me if the quality is there. In my eyes, outsourcing the theme is totally and completely against everything Disney stands for.

EDIT: I forgot, I still buy CD's too. For the same price I get to upload it all to my computer, get all the artwork, and have a factory backup. I sometimes buy single songs online, but still prefer physical media as I get best of both worlds anyway. 2

Drifting....

Just off the top of my head. I think a dueling pianos comedy type show would work at the GF. A native american "pow wow" type show with stories and native foods at WL would work. Contemporary has fixed it's lack of specialized venues and will do well when the DVC opens. Coranado Springs has a club now. And AKL could move and convert TFotLK into a full fledged dinner theater show without too much effort. (They could then start to build that rumored new AK land).

......End of drift

That deal at the boardwalk is not anywhere close to a real ESPNZone. Totally different concept.

True, but I feel my point still stands. As far as I can tell the only real difference is the size, layout, and game room. At least that's the major differences between the Boardwalk and the only other one I have been to, in Denver. Plus, considering ESPN is a Disney franchise, it doesn't bother me as much. I'm also a sports fan, so that may have some influence. If they put a "proper" ESPN Zone in the Virgin spot I wouldn't mind. I was referring more to Disney outsourcing franchises and themes for their restaurants these days. I find it disappointing was my only real point.

Yeah I tried to get into the one in Denver once. Looooong line.

I don't mind them outsourcing at DTD at all. But it still bothers me when they outsource inside the parks. Just doesn't seem that gives Disney enough quality control. Glad McD's is leaving the parks.

The exception would be if the stuck a Ghardelli's Ice Cream in the Diamond Horseshoe. That would be great.

Ohhh, I disagree, respectfully, of course. They need to bring back the cabaret show. It's the only thing that seems right in that space.

Sorry for the drift.

And, I officially have no reason whatsoever to venture farther west than Raglan Road in DTD. I hope their closing sale is good.

^ Appliance Direct FTW. "I LOVE APPLIANCES!!!!!"

This is sad news. That was a cool record store. I always stopped by when I was in DTD. Times they are a changen. I wonder what will fill the space. I doubt they will put in another restaurant they have to many of those in DTD. When is Disney Quest closing? Virgin and Quest are next to each other. Disney can really redevelop that area of buildings.

Just the fact that you SAY "record store" betrays your age (which must be considerable).
LOL. kidding. Hey, I can remember using 8-tracks!

As a former employee, I am quite saddened by this.

But on my last couple of trips I can also say I saw it coming.
Just like most of the record stores where I live they are all shutting down.

Sure the selection was second to none, and it was probably one of the funnest jobs I've ever held. Heck, I got to show Grant Hill around the store while we tried to find some obscure 70's band.

But, the prices we're kind of high and who can compete with Wally World these days.

I just hope something as cool and fun take over its spot.
Cheers!

White Porcelain!

Anyways, an ESPNZone would get me to go to the West Side for the first time since it opened.

Actually, I doubt I'll even go to the Downtown Disney area for a while. It's not worth the time it takes to get over there. I'm going to WDW in early June and with the release of park operating hours, it appears that the parks are going to be closing quite a bit earlier than even last year. A lot more free time to do things in other spots on property, but unfortunately because DTD is pretty much World of Disney and................, I guess I'll be spending more time in my room this trip that most years.
