Video - Splash Mtn finale Jan 22 (all animatronics broken)

Well I can assure you that the boat and animatronics have been working more often than not since August. I have ridden the attraction every few weeks since June, and I have never seen the boat in this state at all in that time.

I mentioned that in AUG...We had none of the chickens in the back of the boat working and another one towards the front hunched over and "dead"... pretty much like the video.

Anyway my point was that if I saw it back then... there is a problem. Regardless of if the ckt breaker keeps tripping and needs to be reset or it is another problem...5 months(if not longer) to resolve a problem on a main attraction is unacceptable.

Thanks for the info BigThunderMatt, but I want to ask the same queestion I did earlier...who is Disney? I really want to know and am not trying to be rude. I would like someone on here to tell me who can make things change. Disneyland had it's lean years, but not anymore. That can't be just because of Al Lutz. :)

What (who) has to change to get the funds and attention to WDW so that extensive maintenance as in days gone by becomes as important as billion dollar next gen and billion dollar expansion (FLE, Avatarland, DVC resorts, etc.)?

Very good question and one I'm curious about myself. If TDO knowingly puts on this low-level quality show then maybe someone whom they answer to should be aware. I don't know the company structure or who holds what position well enough to know who is the next link up the chain. I'd be very interested to know. I could compose a fantastic bit to send him/her. :D

This...is heartbreaking.

I've commented before on how dated the AAs in SM look, but I never thought I'd see them not work at all~! And the ride is still in operation! Why????

This is shameful. This is anti-what-used-to-be-Disney. Maybe Walt's name SHOULD be taken off of the motion picture division - and the parks division too, if THIS is the level of quality we're going to be treated to.

Damn, TDO, stop treating WDW like it's Six Freaking Flags! You've got a legacy to uphold! A legacy that is in large part the REASON many people come to the park in the first place!!!

Just out of interest... has anyone been or is anyone going soon who can check this out?

Whilst yes, it is very bad, if it was all working again the next day I think we can start worrying about more important things, like the Yeti. ;)

Splash has had major maintenance issues for months. This is just the worst of it.

Different kind of park guests at DL than WDW. A lot of the guests at DL are locals, or people who have been there multiple times. WDW, on the other hand has a good majority of their guests who are first-time or infrequent (once every 6-10 years) visitors and those who come further distances and pay a lot more. So, it's harder for WDW to close multiple high volume attractions at once. If they do, the number of complaints goes up significantly.

That is no longer true ... the most recent numbers that have been released show differently, Disneyland still has a higher number of locals, however Disneyland has seen an significant increase in its number of first time visitors since 2010, where Disney Worlds numbers have decreased.

I agree. Not to mention that it costs $80 to get in for the day.

Don't they deserve attentive maintenance?

I recall seeing those updated figures as well. Maybe if the trend continues and more people start choosing DL over WDW, TDO will be forced to make some serious changes, but I doubt we'll be that lucky. I know that personally I am seriously considering a trip to DL instead of WDW as I'm just not exactly thrilled with the current state of affairs and would rather go to DL if they are going to provide me with a higher quality product.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I rode yesterday. There was regular wonkiness for most of the ride (the hopping Br'er Rabbit wasn't up at all, but that's par for the course). It wasn't until the Showboat seen that things got downright offensive. NONE of the AAs on the boat were moving, and some of them just looked creepy with their heads falling backwards, like their necks were broken.
Bad show.

I would consider the most popular ride in the park a priority.

I certainly agree, and that was what I was saying (sorry if it sounded otherwise). They need to prioritize what the big issues are (like this problem) and get it done while also spending some time to keep up the other attractions. It would be nice to hear that when something this big breaks, they can call a few extra people into work to just fix that for a few hours.

Chip & Co. is reporting it's closed right now. I wonder if it's a usual "down for an hour or two" closure or if someone decided it was time to deal with the problem?

Well that's beyond embarrassing, it's disgusting and really creepy. Not to mention unacceptable and shameful. I wouldn't normally do this, but there's really no better expression to convey thoughts on this situation-

I like the Picard forhead in hand pic. I even read it as if Captain Jean Luc Picard was acessing the situation at Splash.

But yeah gotta agree with the majority here. Stop half assing it Disney and do it right!

The problem is that they are prioritizing, the rides come first and show comes last.

The big problem is that they have minimal maintenance staffing and minimal parts on hand. 1st and 2nd shift just start up the rides and keep them running and 3rd shift does all the heavy maintenance work. So if a show problem happens during 1st shift, they try to fix it if they can, if it is an easy fix, if not, turn it over to 3rd Shift. 3rd shift priority is ride inspections and getting the ride ready for the morning. With minimal staffing, if someone or more than someone calls in sick or is on vacation, then people are pulled off other jobs to work on something else.

MK Attractions West takes care of Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square. So that means the same crew takes care of Splash, Big Thunder, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, CBJ, Tiki, Aladdin, Hall of Presidents, etc.

There's your problem right there.
A company the size of WDW should be able to easily to afford to bring on at least 8-10 more staff to focus primarily on show issues and assist with ride maintenance as well.
It would set them back, what....a million a year at the most? But I guess that would nibble at the bottom line and effect someone's bonus...

Funny that hiring a few additional 3rd shift workers (with proper supervision) could do wonders for all these problems. I know it wouldn't make things perfect but it could go a long way. Such an easy starting point for turning this maintenance situation around but of course it's not going to happen under the current regime. So frustrating....
